According to CNBC (a Comcast property, incidentally), Comcast is about to finalize a deal to buy Time Warner Cable for $44.2 billion.

Really hope the FCC/FTC blocks this. One less cable company and less competition is never a good thing. :hammer:

Ridiculous! :hammer: I also hope the FCC says no on this bid.
Imagine the day when Comcast buys all of its competitors and becomes the only cable TV/internet/phone provider in the country. :fear:  I certainly hope that doesn't become a reality.

It probably will if we don't ease up on regulations that make it impossible for someone to start a new company (or last more than a year). Like finance, cable TV is heavily regulated.

Ironically, Time Warner Cable took over Comcast in the DFW Metroplex a few years ago.
I really hope this doesn't happen. The amount of companies these days that are buying each other or merging is getting a little out of hand. :club:

Hilariously this isn't like the old AT&T since the areas that they cover don't compete. It's just Comcast expanding its footprint.

My problem with Comcast buying TWC is when Comcast bought Adelphia, they promised great service blah blah blah. Here we are years and years later, and my Pap still doesn't have the same "okay" service that I had with Comcast before we switched to Verizon. He still doesn't have the new guide that long-time Comcast customers have, or even access to all the same channels. Seems like they only really care about their long-time service areas.

Exactly. I don't have a problem with large companies. However, when companies expand like this, things usually get worse in terms of customer service. Which would also be fine, as long as there are competitors. But what usually happens is the larger companies lobby congress to create regulations that benefit them. And desperate for campaign donations, they usually say yes.

Good grief, it sounds like Comcast wants to take over all the other cable companies. :fear:

in where i live (Palm Beach Gardens/West Palm Beach) we used to have Adelphia until Comcast took them 2005/06

Pretty soon you won't call it by a name, just simply "the cable company".

Comcast officially pulled the plug on the Time Warner Cable merger plan today.
