Title: Comcast Rebranding Services to "xfinity"
Post by: Tyler on February 04, 2010, 10:21:49 PM
Interesting move. I doubt it will attract new customers. It's mainly to compete with FiOS.

It's a Mute point COMCAST for "Boston" because they already have over 100 HD channels

and most of that is exactly like the Digital Migration going on in Massachusetts and across those other 10 markets listed.

Seems just silly to me

Yeah, just noticed it in the Lansing State Journal today... not sure this makes any sense to me. What a goofy name, imo

So I noticed that the wikipedia article says services will only be available in 11 Media Markets... obviously meaning Lansing is not included. Does this mean that Comcast will still be shown on my station ID and cable bill? I also wonder if this would make higher internet speeds cheaper...

It's making it's debut in those 11 markets, but will eventually roll out nationwide. As for the station ID, I don't think that will change at all. The company name is still Comcast.

Doubt prices will be cheaper. Just a way to sorta hide the Comcast name that has gotten a bad reputation. Almost how Blackwater USA (security group that got a lot of bad press coverage in Iraq) changed their name to Xe

another reason why they rebranded could be in the event the FCC/SEC/DOJ forces them to split Comcast up so that way that they won't monopolize the cable industry. they do have a pending buyout of NBC-Universal on there hands, they are waiting on FCC, SEC and the DOJ to approve of the buyout.

But its still Comcast right? I thought it was just a name change, not a separate division or anything.

The corporate name is going to remain Comcast Corporation. AFAIK, they're rebranding their services.

I have not seen one ad regarding the new name. Still seeing Comcast ads for quote-on-quote "xfinity" services. Since I am obviously not in one of the top 11 media markets, I guess it may be a few months before I start noticing the effects.

Well, obviously. Why would you expect to start seeing the effects now if you aren't in one of the debuting markets?

I know it's a little late to continue this argument... but really? I'm not one of the 11 markets but Augusta GA is?

I'm sure there's a reason, and it's probably because Augusta's system is built very well. And it gives them a chance to test the service in a smaller market.

Yep, we have the xfinity commercials running here too. The Seattle metro area system is very well built out and as I've said before, all of expanded basic is digital, so this helps out our HD count of a tick above 100 and our 50 mbps soon to be 100 internet. I really do like it and it's nice to see Comcast finally caring about the customer a bit and building out services without waiting for competition like some others like Time Warner Cable.

Now, Aaron, you understand that our area never gets selected for squat lol. And to be honest, I don't need more Comcast services here as they just suck up your money, and find the littlest ways to charge you more for your garbage :bleh: Anyone heard of the insane Comcast tech near Detroit? He got fired for sleeping in their house for 2 hours, stayed on their property after they told him to leave, and cut the cable hookup connection and poisoned their dog. Comcasts reaction? Nothing. He was just fired and apparently Comcast didn't ofer crap to them after that. That's a prime example of Comcast at work.

But I will say, I'd have them over ATT

I think the rebranding might be coming to Atlanta soon, I saw an ad on TV about this, but I only caught the tail end so I don't know what it was saying.

EDIT: Looks like I was right, I just saw it again on FX and they said "Coming Soon."

Then you should be getting a statement in the CC bill saying which channels would be affected by the rebranding and a HD channel list of what's to come for the Atlanta Area.

I didn't get any changes regarding channels and we've had xfinity since February. To be honest, Xfinity is just the same old Comcast with a different name that they think would get people to switch back to them.

I used to think that before i got the "world of more" flyers in the mail in mid february.

Anyone remember the ads from when they first got Comcast? Ah, this takes me back to 2001 when I lost AT&T's cable service :P
