As I was about to do a birthday thread for Lightning (Don't worry, I promise to do it! :) ) I've hatched an idea that may make things a bit easier. And I attached a poll to weigh-in.
I was thinking of adding a Child Board that's specifically for Birthday threads and other celebration threads (such as graduations, anniversaries, etc.) I think it makes everything organized instead of having to find your birthday thread by scrolling down too much and having to go page by page. A child board makes things easy. ;)
If this were to be approved, I suggest it should start during the beginning of the new year (since we're getting a bit closer. lol)
So, what do y'all say? Support? Against? Your input (especially the admin's input) is gratefully welcomed! :)

First, I want to know from everyone if they like the whole concept of child boards. They're currently in use for the Hurricane Central, Intellistar 2, and TWC Artist Chat threads. To me, having a lot of child boards might clutter up the main page to where just treating them alone as normal topics may be fine. I want to hear what others think before making a decision though.

Who implemented the global announcements feature with the orange highlighted topic titles? I've never seen that before.
As for child boards, I think it may clutter up the board so much so my answer would be no. We do have some already in the weather and LF boards as someone else already mentioned.

Too much clutter IMO. The only reason there is a child board for the Istar2 is so it's easy for the STAR Team to pick out Istar2 discussion.

I have thought about it but thought it would diminish the meaning of the birthday threads. I also thought about having a sticky with all of the topics wouldn't get used and would be disorganized. Lets see the results of this poll

It looks like we can keep child boards provided that they don't take up too much room. I think we should try to limit them to only a few special threads just like pinned threads around here. Feedback from the poll indicates that most members are okay with child boards.

A child-board DOES keep things more organized and grouped together (which I am all for). :yes:
However, like Martin said, and for this particular idea, a child-board for birthday threads will reduce the "meaning" of the birthday thread. When they are in the "General Discussion," I see them because I am probably looking for another topic. But if they are placed in a child-board, I don't know if I would look every day just to see if its someone's birthday. Having these threads grouped in the "General Discussion" makes for more meaning and surprise. I hope this makes sense...

However the real question whether it is appropriate for this situation. With 6 votes for no change and 4 for "Good idea, but I'm not too sure" (whatever that means) I don't think we will make the change.
