Title: TWC Updates Graphics
Post by: alex979 on August 03, 2015, 11:39:12 AM
TWC rolled out some new graphics this morning: updated bugs and lower thirds.

IMO it looks a little sloppily done, but the font is way better, and it's nice that they can fit more information into the lower thirds.

I really like how these lower thirds look. The transparency and animated logo are a nice touch.

Looking at the videos online, it doesn't appear that AMHQ or WUWA got the refreshed graphics.

This was done maybe a week or so ago, but also notice how the ticker extends to the far right side of the screen now, effectively removing any option for the return of the rundown of climate data, airport delays, etc.  That blank space really bothers me though.  Is that filled with something on an IS2 feed?

That space is also blank on the IS2's Sidebar.

... and the ticker is not shown going all the way over to the right on IS2 when sidebar is active

My question is why did TWC leave that corner of the HD feed graphics blank?  :dunno: Clearly they could have put something else there for both satellite and local, like maybe a Doppler radar box, similar to what they did with the SD feed 1/3-length LDL back in 2010.

I love it. It appears that TWC tried something new and (to me) it appears they did a great job!

If anyone's interested, WUWA and AMHQ also now have the updated L3s.

The AMHQ ones do look nice.

I recorded Weather Center live the other day. I got the tropical update and the standard animations.

i'm not sure if this just for Weather Underground TV or all Weather Channel live broadcast (WUWA, Weathercenter, AMHQ, and WUTV), but they seem to replaced that part of the HD LDL bar with a live satellite/cone of uncertainty view of Tropical Storm Erika, our newest named storm in the Atlantic Ocean in the El-Nino affected Atlantic Hurricane Season.

i think it's a better view of the storm then that smaller version that you saw at the show logo part of the graphics.

The maps themselves are too bright.  Then, you add TURQUOISE to it?  Talk about hard on the eyes!  B)
