TWC previously had Tru Vu Titan HD from WSI. A few weeks ago they discontinued Titan, and Released Tru Vu Max(for graphics) and Tru Vu Storm(for radar). My local tv network has had it for a few weeks now, its beautiful system. It has a lot better looking graphics than Titan. It has no rendering, so the program speeds up the process of making graphics.
-
What are you talking about? Titan is not discontinued... in fact if you saw the monitor behind Cantore, that was Titan...

WSI is trying to get back to windows operating systems. They can still use Titan(If they already have it, which twc does), just WSI may not be selling the product anymore, it has been removed from their website. Tru Vu Storm is what replaced the Titan HD Radar. Tru Vu Max replaced the Show Player, graphics producer, and show fx from the Titan graphics system.

I never realized they even used products from WSI.. but rather Vizrt..
/me is lost

They use both. You can tell the differences in the software, Viz has more glassy, and light flashy effects on it. They really have only been using Viz for: Weekly Planner, Road Weather, Interstate Forecast, and sometimes the 60 Second forecast.

That second video, the graphics aren't new. They are VIZ, not the new Tru Vu Max.

Day Planner was still the same today..

I wonder if they'll have a different graphics style for each show? That would be cool.

I'd imagine it won't be til next year :P remember they only bothered to change YWT's last year
-
TWC has indeed replaced Titan with TruVu. Here's a few screen caps via my cell:

Thats interesting... because i couldve sworn in a monitor i saw behind Jim earlier the Titan source was on it
-
Not a big fan of the title bars. Maybe I need to see them in HD first.

There's a good chance they're still mixing it in. I know our local NBC affiliate, WPXI, changed their radar to Weather Central's ESP:Live last fall, but they still occasionally use their old radar for some reason.
-

Neither am I.
But the new Tru Vu Radar does look nice. I'm guessing it will be debuting on all other shows tomorrow.
-
Thats interesting... because i couldve sworn in a monitor i saw behind Jim earlier the Titan source was on it
Both of the computers I saw today behind Cantore had windows on it. Plus, the keyboard that is below the touch screen controls the computer to the left, which he was advancing the Tru Vu radar on. They are using Titan in the HD studio @ the greenscreen, probably b/c they haven't upgraded those workstations yet. Earlier I saw a monitor on the side desk, looks like they're working on it now.

I didnt say it was a computer in use, but what I meant was a monitor behind him that was inactive, and I wasnt talking about the HD studio chromas in my earlier post either ;)

Ah, well the computer on the right usually is running vizrt and the one on the left is running WSI be it Titan or Max. Sorry about that.
-
The new maps are just beautiful. :D They also have smoother motion than the older ones. The new titlebars are good, but not great. Even then, they are easier to read than the old tiny titlebars.
The 3D studio is being used for the 60 second forecast now.
-
I'll see if i can get an HD Capture of the graphics later today.
-
Well, that's a disappointment. The new graphics haven't made it to YWT.
-
May be a gradual roll out. The AM crew might not be trained on TruVu yet.
-
I like the design of the title bars, although they don't match with the rest of the maps.

That second video, y'all do realize that they recycled the old WC music, right? Because I heard it once in person. It's a miracle It's amazing that they decided to use the music again.
-
Will the new graphics roll out on the local forecasts too?
-
Will the new graphics roll out on the local forecasts too?
No. There really aren't new graphics, just a new radar system.
-

Just a radar system? HA, no. Tru Vu Max is graphics too, but I seriously doubt you'll see them on the LF. They are still using Titan in the studio, which I don't know why unless their working on upgrading the computers. It would be great to see this design on the intellistar, since its so outdated. Anyone notice that in the Expert Desk, the 30" monitor to the left is now gone? Now they have a smaller monitor that looks like Dells latest Design. I think this is because Tru Vu Max required a certain resolution, or so I've read.
-
The Weather Channel Integrates WSI TruVu Max Radar Technology (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHoLpHXohUE#)
-
Would any of you be kind enough to upload a high resolution picture/screencap of the new title bars? :worship: I'd like to design then, and I'll release them so all of you could use them if wanted. Thanks.
BTW: Anyone notice that the new title bars look very similar to the ones used on the Today Show weather? I did.
-

You said what I basically wanted to say. I think the new maps and radar are fabulous, including the new 7-day outlook.
-
According to Mike B. TWC is "Debuting a new weather graphics system this morning"
-
I can confirm this. Holy cow does it look nice.
-
The new radar system (not sure what it's called) looks really nice. The animations and transitions are really smooth compared to SkyTracker/Titan.

Its called Tru Vu Max, not sure if they have Tru Vu Storm yet. Beautiful system isn't it?
-
Very sharp. I like it :)
Perfect for severe weather.
-
I have to say I like these new graphics. They're not as "crammed" as the previous graphics.
-
As a little trivia, WSI is the one that powers the same satellite LF/emergncy feed computers that theyve had since 1999 :P
I love the maps! Hopefully they dont screw up a lot like Vizrt :whistling: the only dislike i have is the animations work like they do at certain local stations, such as WTSP :hmm:

The animations are the same since WSI tried to make it a system that was fast and easy to update. They have a ton of templates for animations in it. I would expect that TWC could make much more weather graphics in less time with these features. This backs up this answer http://www.wsi.com/Collateral/Documents/English-US/tru_vu_max.html (http://www.wsi.com/Collateral/Documents/English-US/tru_vu_max.html)

New weekly planner graphics are UGLY. And theres no need to have cities with icons on them - they block half of the important information! Didn't they learn that when they originally launched HD?
-
Party likes its 1999!!

TWC looks too much like the evening weather forecast now to me.

As requested in the other thread, here are some HD-res snapshots of the titlebars

I've uploaded my version of the titlebars to the website. http://theweathernetwork.weebly.com/media.html (http://theweathernetwork.weebly.com/media.html)

What the :censored: were they thinking with that 7day thing at the top and that hideous background!?!?!
-

do-do, do-do-do!
I like the new titlebars, they're much more simple and easier to read.
-
I pray to God they revise the Weekly Planner layout. It's garbage. However, the rest of the system looks spectacular.

Party like it's 1999? Those God awful graphics should have never left 1999. :P
-
It would be nice to see those Titlebars updated on the SD Satellite LF.
-
On the Weekly Planner, I really don't get why TWC has to "jazz up the graphics" with un-needed accesories.
-
I like Tru Vu Max, but that weekly planner does the system no justice. They should go back the using VIZRT for the weekly planner. Why did they only use it on WC first?
-
pahahhaa, I was thinking that samething on that weekly planner graphic on the WC launch.
-
Here are some of my thoughts on the new graphics:
1. The new title bars are really nice...big and clear
2. The Tru Vu Radars are very vivid and look excellent!
3. TWC really messed up the Weekly Planner, though. As Tyler said, they don't need city names and conditions blocking up half the map, and they need to be consistent (i.e. sometimes they'll show weather then highs and sometimes they'll put the high temps. on the condition map which looks weird).
-
weather.com is also transitioning to the new graphics.
-
TWC was actually using this new system back in December and January, then they went back to titan.

Wow, so that emergency radar they were using back on January 26th was Truvu max!

Sure was! For a while I though it was vizrt.
-
Have they been using VIZ since the launch? I haven't seen it. I also notice that when the elements animated while the map is still moving/closing in, it lags/freezes for a brief second. They need to fix that.
-
OT, but why do we have two topics on the new graphics? One in Programming and Graphics and one in General TWC Discussion. It's confusing me.

Well there were new graphics/maps introduced at two different times. I went ahead and just merged them
-
Did TWC get Tru Vu Storm also? Or are they just using the radar in Max? http://www.wsi.com/products-media-television-truvu-max-storm.htm (http://www.wsi.com/products-media-television-truvu-max-storm.htm)
EDIT: Maybe thats what Max 7 is.

Are new intros to much to ask for. :P
-
Are new intros to much to ask for. :P
Yes, probably. :bleh: However, I personally would like to see graphics that have a common theme. Not holding my breath, however.

They had those 20 years ago. :)

They had them during "Live By It", too. Both parts of it.

...and into the early parts of bringing weather to life... until they switched to Vizrt in 2007... IMO :hmm:

New Lower Thirds Debut Today on Day Planner. If you want my opinion on them, I believe they're ugly. As for the show intro, still the same as the 2008 launch

You beat me to it. Was just about to come here to post this. :P
I don't mind the new L3rds, but they kind of do have have the look of other NBC networks now. The font appears to be Frutiger or something similar.
-
Yes they do. Perhaps if they fix that fon't, it'll look better. However, the "LIVE" logo is cut off on the SD network.
-
You both beat me to it. xD
Anyways, about time they have new L3rds. I think these new ones look pretty, especially when they're centered. That's a huge plus.
-
For those who haven't gotten a chance to see them
-
Not really a fan of that font to be honest.
-
Tbh.. i was speaking to a friend last night about the 2010-present (?) set on how it looks like the pre-HD msnbc style :P
-
I like the new L3rd's! Any one know if all shows will get new L3rd's and maybe new Intros??
-

They haven't had the old ones for that long, have they? I feel like TWC is changing graphics way too often now.
And it would be nice if TWC would roll everything out at the same time, not a new radar and title bars, then the L3rds, then something else.
-
I love those compared to the other ones. When I turned to TWC about 2min ago I thought it wasn't TWC when I saw them.

I feel the same way.
-
For the weather update at 6 PM ET, there were updated L3rds. Not sure which show they'll be used on, however. I guess PME or WC because they're blue.
-
From what I've seen, they seem to match the new map title bars a bit better. Like I said, I'd really love to have everything match up for a while again.
-
6:30 Update
-
Now whats next to be updated? I hope the SD feeds LDL. Its an eyesore.
-
I saw the L3rds. Here's a snapshot of one.
-
The new L3rds look terrible. I'm not too impressed...maybe if I see them on my own TV they will look better.
-
I like the new L3rd's! Any one know if all shows will get new L3rd's and maybe new Intros??
Well WC has new L3rd's, a new Intro and a longer name. WC is now WCL (Weather Center Live)
Now I know why Chris and Crystal have been calling WC, WCL for a few weeks! On top of all that, we have a new TOR CON Intro! The TOR CON maps and numbers looks the same.
Never thought I would quote my own post!! LOL

I just noticed it. WCL intro was white wasn't it?
-
Weather Center Live....not a fan, especially of the new intros. Too bright for an evening program, in my humble opinion. Oh well.
-
Weather Center's graphics are very, very ugly.
-
I don not like these new graphics... There has been too many graphic updates in the past couple weeks...
-
Weather Center's graphics are very, very ugly.
I'm not a fan of this "Weather Walking" segment, either.
-
Definitely not a fan of the L3rds now.. too compact and small
-
I think the Frutiger font looks OK, but the new L3rds are ugly.  I noticed that WC had a new background, and the TOR:CON segment had slightly updated segments.
-
Weather Center Live...are you kidding me?
Also, have the intros changed for all shows or just WCL?
-
Weather Center Live...are you kidding me?

I don't get the name change either....yes, we get you're live on-air. We also know it's a novelty these days with all the long-form they put on, but "LIVE" is a bit over the top.
-
I would love to know how long it took programming to just to add the "Live" title to Weather Center
-
If the opening is anything like the static images I've seen on the monitors during WC tonight, they put too much emphasis on "LIVE" and not enough on "Weather Center."
-
Wow, it is terrible.
-
I just saw the opening. How fugly!! I don't understand why TWC is still producing their graphics in-house, and why NBC Artworks isn't doing their graphics from Rockefeller Plaza like the rest of the NBC's properties.
-
The new L3rds don't match with the LDL at all. That's what I really liked about the ones that debuted last year.
I just saw the opening. How fugly!! I don't understand why TWC is still producing their graphics in-house, and why NBC Artworks isn't doing their graphics from Rockefeller Plaza like the rest of the NBC's properties.
Didn't NBC design Weather Center's 2009 lower thirds? Don't know why that haven't done anything for TWC since.
-
The majority of TWC's day to day graphics are done in house, including the L3s from last year.
-
The designers might have a purpose for them being like this that we don't know. Every designer has a mind of their own and their own opinions, and this might be one of their best or worse works. The WCL graphic isn't that bad really, we're just not use to it. :dunno:
-
I agree with Tyler, the opener is just plain ugly. Sorry, but it really just doesn't fit. And he's right, there is way too much emphasis on "LIVE", and not enough on the actual show name. I have noticed that the new lower 3rds look slightly better for the morning shows (orange vs. grey or blue), but they still look undersized.
-
New Lower Thirds Debut Today on Day Planner. If you want my opinion on them, I believe they're ugly. As for the show intro, still the same as the 2008 launch
I say the new L3s look just fine to me, yet they could have kept the ones that came with the new graphics to start with.
Now they need to do something with the LF.
-
HD shot of the L3rds and the one after shows that the key backgrounds changed too
-
I don't mind the new CG's, they are plain and simple. At least their not extremely large like a few years ago.
And Weather Center LIVE is a dumb name. Way too much emphasis on live, and not to mention it is downright ugly.
-
Today on WUWA, they're using an orange version of the new titlebars that premiered a few weeks ago. Are these new?
-

No they've been using these at least since last week.

Is there a possibility they'll be used by the other morning shows eventually? One would think they'd blend better with the morning show graphics (especially YWT). However, since they've been out for over a week, I'd suppose they would have ported them to the other shows already, if they planned to.
-
I don't know which side that I am on...I like the layout and the font, but YWT and DP are using the same color of L3RDs.
-

Even FO and WUWA are using the same color.
Weather Center Live is just dumb. We already know they're live, not to mention that the graphics are too bright and place to much emphasis on LIVE. Stars in the LIVE part? Really? Also, I don't like the color of the L3rd or the background during it.
-
Does anyone have the intro to WCL?
-
Does anyone have the intro to WCL?
I haven't seen it yet...if someone could post it that would be fantastic.
Also, thanks to Zach's wonderful HD images, it's easy to say the new L3rds definetely look like something that would be used on NBC.
-
I just find it weird that FO only got the new L3rds, but WUWA received not only that, but also new graphics to match it, and the new key background.

This graphic looks much better than the old one. So what if its not blue? Blue is getting old anyway.
-
The key background now turns red for red mode.
-
I think the new WCL opener still has the evening feel. I wish they had the jazzy music opener.
-

WUWA got new graphics? Are they as bad as WC's?

The only new WUWA graphics i saw were the morning-themed titlebars (already mentioned...), l3rds, and on YWT, the key background behind the maps changed (youll see if your an HD viewer)

Sadly it looks more and more likes the MSNBC theme to me. I hope TWC isn't going to loose its unique style

Something tells me it will unfortunately happen. There's nothing else to say about it that hasn't been said already. It's just disappointing.

How is this a Live Bug? it's super tiny
-
That's not their Live bug. Their Live bug is a completely different graphic.

Oops my mistake, the conditions tab is super tiny you can barely see it on SD
-

Is that even a live image? I thought they reshowed 6am images for the cams for the WUWA broadcast
-
I don't even see the LIVE tag in that image anywhere. :dunno:
-
I like how the new graphics are more universal than the previous set. The key backgrounds and those other graphics are almost the same across all shows.
-
Apologize for bumping, but are these new tropical graphics for weather.com and possibly on-air? Haven't seen these with other storms earlier this season...the graphics have been the ones from last year.

I really like their new tropical graphics this year. :) (Although, I will admit that they really don't need to change them EVERY year).
-
It looks like there is a very neat little lower-line on MSNBC for TWC updates, generated from TWC's graphics packages.
-

They oughta show that even during primetime political programming (Last Word, Maddow, etc.). Considering it's more important than the regular crawl that they turn off at 4pm...
-
Day Planner has released some "updated map title bars" for their segments "Big picture forecast" "Weekend forecast" and "focus forecast"
-
Those have been around for awhile I think.. I definitely know thet "Big Picture Forecast" one has at least...
-
They have all been used for weeks, but they don't use them much (especially focus forecast).

Some segment maps have updated headers while the other use the old headers.
Are all of them going to be updated?
Here's the old and new.

The new ones are a lot nicer.

While I agree that the header for the new ones look better, I still have major problems with all of the 7-day forecast graphics. Seeing the temperatures flash up on each day and having all the tiled maps to the sides really jumbles up the entire presentation of that segment for me. I wish they wouldn't have canned the whole concept of the simpler Weekly Planner graphics. :hmm:

Viz requires a lot of rendering of those graphics and have to be updated manually (clicking a button :P) from what I've seen. It just came down to choosing one graphics software and time for the mets making their presentations. I do agree, the old Weekly Planner did look better. The current 7Day boxes are a bit too big, IMO.

Those new title bars certainly look like ones that would be used on a news station. Which, there's nothing wrong with that of course, and it's understandable, but it does make TWC seem like it's lost some of its originality. :hmm:

TWC's graphics used to be original, but now they just seem "Generic". Didn't they loose a graphics director or something a year ago?
-
I saw them yesterday too, and I thought they looked like the tropical banners.

That's why I don't like them, I didn't like this year's tropical update banners.

They got a new art director around a year ago.
-
Is this new art director the same one who designed the March 2010 titlebars or not?

Probably not, seeing how the March 2010 titlebars looked quite similar to the June 2008 ones.

I'm sure some have noticed it, but no one has posted about it that I can see. TWC added a month or so ago 3D falling rain drops, snowflakes, and lightning strikes to their Tru Vu Max maps like they had on Titan. I'm wondering why they did this, it's very distracting and you can't see the base precip layers very well. I'd remove it if I was them.

I think they are nice additions, but only on their tilted map views.. other than that I agree that they shouldnt be on the maps, especially the 7-day forecast ones

This may be better in the new thread about graphics, but I'll go ahead and put it here. TWC's map showing the summer outlook has some impressive graphics!! Do you think it's a preview of what's to come at all? They may just have wanted to create a fancy graphic for a high-interest subject, but I think it would look good everywhere. Really like the 3-D affect.
P.S. This post was created for the graphic-talk, but you can also use it to see how your summer will shape up temp-wise. :P

I really don't see how Florida of all places could be below normal these next couple of months... :noexpression:
-
God, I hope this happens! I would like a cooler summer for once. If we never see a day above 89 I'll be happy.
-
I don't like how the map is leaning away from you. I can't see the East Coast well at all. It would be better if the map was flat and have the 3-D effects around it.
-
This likely won't be the new forecasts. They've used these for months for climate outlooks and would have implemented them if they were going to use them in active forecasting.
-
Not really a fan of this format at all. I'd rather see hard work go into:
-professional-quality show openers (unified theme)
- " " " " segment openers (unified theme)
-weekly planner graphics overhaul (no coverflow, please. And no bleh-looking moving cloud background, please).
Maps are something that I personally think don't need that much "flair"-it just distracts the viewer. It doesn't need to be sparse, a great title bar, key, icons, and cities look great. But all the "junk" around it here just doesn't work for me.

The animated show promos in the LDL area going to break are now being used for commercials.
One just aired promoting a movie.
