Less Weather Coverage, Terrible Programming
« on: June 13, 2011, 08:08:47 AM »
I am a 17 year old, avid Weather Channel fan (actually we can say used to be). I want some feedback from you guys on these topics. I was a fan from 2000-2008. I absolutely loved the Weather Channel. It was all I watched. I actually watched it so much that my parents would tell me to change the station and I got really mad at them when they did that but anyways, I had a dream of working there when I grew up. So now 2008 comes and they have their HD relaunch and layoff meteorologists. Then they introduce Wake Up With Al and other new programming shows and all this junk. Do you guys agree? Do you think The Weather Channel will ever go back to its original self or at least something close? Thanks for your feedback!

TWC decided to take the same route as all the other channels did... instead of focusing on their initial concept they just focus on ratings. Unless fashion changes I won't count on TWC going back to how it was pre-2009.

This has been discussed multiple times, but I think most here would agree with you. I personally stopped watching around 2003.

It went from being all about the weather to weather and the news. And so many stupid shows like Storm Stories that are just the same reruns over and over. I don't like it as much, and I don't plan on it changing. I actually think The Weather Channel will eventually be changed to "The Weather and News Channel."

Yes, it's been discussed countless times. TWC will not change the path its in currently. I miss hearing monthly,35-song smooth jazz playlists

Unfortunately, TWC will likely never, ever go back to the TWC we all knew and loved. Had the station had the chance to do such a thing, I believe it would have happened a long time ago.

It's best that we don't beat up on an already dead horse for this matter.  TWC is never going back to how it used to be years ago, and that's how it's going to be no matter what we do.

I just watched their crappy update in disgust a few minutes ago. There are severe thunderstorms going on as we speak in Nebraska, the Twin Cities, and Oklahoma City. Paul Goodloe just casually said "there could be golfball-sized hail", and then it immediately went back to "Surviving the Elements."  :club: There have to be tornados involved for TWC to even consider preempting their crummy programming. It has gotten beyond ridiculous.  :hammer:
Hakeem: What's up, Jetsons!
Frank Mitchell: Jetsons?
Hakeem: Yeah, you and George got the same haircut.

One can at least hope that TWC is using the dual-feed feature... for those subscribers with IntelliStars.  For everyone else, reality programming it is!

Honestly, everyone here needs to calm down. The only reason I see TWC not preempting any of their long form is because hardly anyone is watching. When they see more viewers tuned in, they will likely preempt their long form. Most of the time, I watch TWC these days for a source of noise, not on a fan's point of view, and if I do decide to watch on a fan's point of view, it's because I am bored, which is a rarity.
I've gone off on a journey to be a moderator at another forum, but this place will forever remain home for me~

I hope you all do realize that TWC isn't the best channel to watch when your area is under threat. Local tv stations can do a much better and in depth coverage, which is why most people tune into them. TWC can't cover the entire US during outbreaks, don't expect them to. I don't care for the long form, but some of the programs are okay. I'd rather them have that on @ say 12AM or 1 than 5-7 and 8-10. TWC is what it is, and unless someone steps in that can keep the ratings up while showing weather, it's the news, some weather, and longform for now. The only thing that we could hope for is for them to move the long form to more "convenient" time of the day.

Watch the weather.com forecasts. They're still hard weather.

It could be because people get their forcasts online
Watch 30 Rock on Comedy Central. That way you can be like Liz.

While watching You Weather Today this morning, I thought to myself that I actually like some of the things they've done--like a short business segment, some news, and top weather stories like the fires in Arizona. Sure I do miss the old TWC some when it was just all about weather, but time goes on and things change. They need to keep up with the "hip" new technology and all that. Like Patrick said, it's just a fact of life now that NBC has different ideas of how to run the channel, but I'm still going to be open to their changes.
