Title: Extended Coverage
Post by: cc17926 on June 04, 2016, 11:35:12 PM
Figure a thread would be useful for when there is a schedule change..

Sunday 6/5 - 3-11pm will cover "Tropical and Severe Threats"

They are at least on tonight for Hermine. But it seems like only Forbes is in the studio and they've been relying on Jim and Chris Warren for coverage to fill it up

well, with Matthew being a threat to the east coast, i'm sure The Weather Channel will go to "Red Mode" and do extending coverage possibly as soon as today (as it's past midnight now and no longer Tuesday), beginning at 5 AM EDT, 4 AM CDT,  3 AM MDT and 2 AM PDT & MST (Arizona).

Ray Stagich and Rich Johnson were on last night.

Right now, it seems like the only person in the studio is Dr. Greg Postel though as of this morning. They just keep going to Reynolds Wolff and Alex Wilson, and some random woman named Janel Klein.

The coverage is a lot like Hermine where it seems like no OCM's are in the studio and they just rely on the field reporting.

I'm gonna bet we won't have an OCM in the studio until Chris and Jennifer's hours come up.

Alexandra Steele was on yesterday (Thursday, October 6th) from around 11am to 2pm.  She was in the studio and they went to her just 3 times in around 3 to 4 hours.  Dr. Greg Forbes was not in yet and Alexandra was left to updating us on the tornado warnings in the Midwest.  She went over tornado warnings in Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.

Carl Parker was in the lab throughout this time, focusing on Matthew.  And Reynolds Wolff and Alex Wilson led the coverage on the ground.

As someone that was watching the coverage pretty much all the way from 8 Am to 6:30 AM, Alexandra was the only OCM in the studio for at least 12 hours until Ray Stagich and Rich Johnson came back on.

After Carl Parker left, Bryan Norcross took his spot. I had to go to an employee party for a couple hours, but I figured when I came back that Michael Lowry would have taken Bryan's spot, and that was exactly the case.

So basically, all the storm experts took shifts with Matthew, Greg Postel doing the morning shift, Carl Parker doing the late morning and afternoon, Bryan Norcross doing the early evening and Michael Lowry doing the night shift. And Greg Forbes covering any tornado warnings.

I kept an eye on The Weather Channel throughout the day Saturday (October 8th)   Again, the group of reporters out in the field anchored this coverage.  Mike Bettes (South Carolina), Chris Warren (South Carolina), Mark Elliott (Georgia), Jen Carfagno (Florida), Paul Goodloe (Florida), Mike Seidel (North Carolina), Jim Cantore (North Carolina), and Maria LaRosa (South Carolina) all took turns leading TWC coverage.  Meanwhile, once again Greg Postel, Carl Parker, Bryan Norcross, and Michael Lowry lastly took turns tracking the hurricane in the lab.  Jen Delgado made just one appearance in the main studio at around 7:30pm eastern (well...that I saw).  Later on, Alex Wallace and then Ray Stagich anchored coverage from the lab well past dark.

With Hermine and Matthew it appears TWC is aiming to do their coverage by the reporters on site...which I'm fine with.  Plus, that gives us less time to sit through Kelly Cass, Jen Delgado, and Alex Wallace.  Unless you have something more than a Hurricane taking place, field reporters plus experts in the lab are more than adequate to cover the story.

I haven't watched a lot today but it looks like they have gone back to having OCM's in the studio. Alex Wallace and Anaridis Rodriguez are on right now

yep, Matthew's now history, i bet this is the last time that we get extended coverage for a tropical depression/storm/hurricane

i wouldn't be surprise if the next time we get extended coverage is either a major severe weather outbreak or our first major named winter storm of this upcoming winter.
