Title: ETF?
Post by: Gil on August 06, 2008, 11:09:01 AM
I feel really stupid for asking this, but what is the Extended Travel Forecast? :dunno:

I've seen videos. Was it in place of the Local On The 8's at certain times, or was it a standalone thing? Did it always use the same music as the LF playlist?

What the heck is it?

It was the successor to the Business Travel Forecast. It was a national segment that cycled through four-day forecasts for select cities.

As for the playlist, I believe it used the same playlist as the regular LF music.

It was a segment that aired from 1996-2005 that showed the forecast for cities around the country for the next four days. I believe it aired mostly during the overnight hours (at least during its last few years).

No, it aired immediately after an OCM segment. I think Spring Rubber has a video of the 2003-2005 version of the ETF during Overnight Outlook.

I think the ETF used a slightly different playlist. I remember hearing some songs on it that didn't air during the LF. Evening Tide by Physical Therapy is one that comes to mind.

Yeah, it lasted until 2005, but was only ever used during Overnight Outlook. I believe Steve (Spring Rubber) has a few videos of it from 2003 or 2005.

No, it was totally separate from the LOT8s.

(edit: Mike beat me to that first part)

Here's (http://www.twcdan.com/videos/3q98/etf%20midnight%207-30-1998.html) an ETF segment from July 30th, 1998

Layne also has clips of the ETF from 1999 on his YouTube account. The version you see from late 1999 (with the Weatherscan-esque title bars) was used until 2003, I believe.

Wow, that's cool! Now that I think about it, I think I have seen it before. The 2005 version, that is...

Very cool. Too bad they discontinued it. :(

Thanks for the help, guys! :)

The video that Spring Rubber had of the ETF, the LOT8s song that was used, did that song play back at night in September?

Okay, two things here.

1) Like a dummy, I just realized that I dated that ETF "20071104". It should be "20031104". D'oh!

2) During the final years of the ETF, it certainly didn't use the regular playlist. Oftentimes Dave would mention the name or the artist of the song and how it's so nice to hear it on TWC.
