Did anyone watch "Sandy: Anatomy of a Superstorm?"  I found it to be quite interesting.  Some parts were a little over-dramatic, but I thought it was a great presentation.

Mark Elliot did 1AM ET WCL. This is the first time he anchored a program.
Actually, he anchored the 1AM Weather Center Live the previous night as well.

Very interesting.  I can't believe Al Roker is going to be on for an hour and a half.  Whatever.

I find it interesting they are getting rid of Your Weather Today.

I like the show title "On the Radar."

Good to see there is going to be a couple more hours of live programming in the evening.

They're not, it just got a new name (Morning Rush)
Right, therefore, "Your Weather Today" will no longer exist..

....and to think I wanted to be a meterologist :(.  That area really is cut-throat.  I am glad I am just a software engineer with a degree in Computer Science.  :hmm:
If you had pursued Meteorology, you would have found out that broadcasting is the most volatile position in the field.  It's why I'm in the NWS and not on TWC.  Layoffs are extremely common in broadcasting, and it will continue to be that way.
Well said, Patrick.

You should not let the things you are reading hear about a large network bring you down.  Follow your dream.  Do what you want to do.  As Patrick said, it is very volatile.  I can't even describe the amount of changes that occurred within not only the weather department, but every department at the television station I worked at for a year and a half.  It scares me, but it's something I love to do, so I am willing to put myself out there and give it a shot.

As Patrick mentioned, there are definitely other opportunities in meteorology beside broadcasting.  I've been thinking a lot about the private sector if the whole broadcast thing doesn't work out.

Went trick-or-treating every year until I was 15.  I have always enjoyed Skittles and hard candy.  Hershey's chocolate was my favorite chocolate.

I've been working a teleprompter when it crashes, it is NOT a pleasant feeling for me and I can only imagine what it's like for the anchor.  So, scripts are necessary.  Some stations use iPads now, to conserve papers.  But hey, iPads are still technology.

But, I agree that it doesn't need to be in "stacks."  Perhaps fold the papers in half.  I know those scripts aren't very wide.

Heather is on this morning with Vivian, so we'll have to wait til the end of the month to see what happens.

In the back of my mind, I've always thought Heather was next to go.  I love Heather to death, but I've noticed, especially when she is with Todd, she seems a bit scatter-brained and I can't help but think what management thinks of that.  With that aside, she is a wonderful meteorologist and a great personality.

It doesn't surprise me all these layoffs are occurring with all this taped programming.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Jeff Morrow leaves TWC

I am so sad to see Jeff Morrow out the door.  One of my favorites to watch.

I remember coming home from school every day as an elementary/middle school student and turning on the TV to watch him and Vivian on "Weather Center PM" or "Afternoon Outlook." He is a fantastic field reporter, and a fantastic meteorologist.  Best wishes to him.  I hope someone will take him on their weather team.

It's also sad, because I am not too shocked to hear about this.

But, as Patrick stated, it has to happen at some point or another, whether they are laid off, retire, or leave on their own.  I don't think we should entirely point fingers at NBC.  NBC has been in control for a few years now.  If they were the solely responsible for this, I would imagine they would have canned him sooner.  Again, we cannot make assumptions.

Best of luck to Jeff!

He wasn't laid off. He has a new 10-week-old baby at home and he's going to be a stay at home dad. They just gave him a "send off" goodbye on WCL tonight.
Good for him!

I'm sad to see him go.  Really enjoyed his broadcasts.

Best of luck to Adam!

While I'll look at the GFS, I do not put much stock into it.  It failed me a lot this summer as I was learning how to forecast.  It is not good in drought-like situations.  I really like the ECMWF, and I don't mind the NAM either.

But you're right, TWCCraig, nothing after a week should be set in stone.

I am not a huge fan of this, at all.  I don't see the point.  If a storm is so noteworthy, then we name it ourselves, such as Storm of the Century, Groundhog's Day Blizzard, and  the President's Day Storm.  Just another gimmick to get viewers, I suppose.  If it works, good for them, but I most certainly am not a fan of the idea.

I wonder what others within the network think?

Not digging the no jacket look.  It's definitely more professional to wear a jacket.
