i bought a Roku Express Plus for $35.00 at Walmart a few weeks ago, and i installed the Local Now app for Roku as well as WeatherNation app to (as a backup in case i lose my DirecTV signal during a thunderstorm).

since this thread is about Local Now, i will do my review on it.

i had it setup for the Dallas/Fort Worth stream of Local Now it's just nothing but a loop of weather, traffic, sports, news and sometimes other random things like business news, where to go in the area for fun and to go out to eat and best coffee review. it's kinda not that good. it needs more live weather from the times i seen it.

i would love to see this become tweaked a little bit and see local news, weather and sports be done by KXAS, the Dallas NBC station for all the local DFW stuff on Local Now, and during a severe weather outbreak, maybe air the same severe weather coverage that airs on KXAS when they do their coverage. or even extra sever weather coverage from KXAS' weather team just for Local Now. too bad NBC Universal won't do anything like that.

bumping this as news broke today that Sam is leaving The Weather Channel.

it's safe to say either this show has been canceled or is about to get a reboot with a new host, but that depended on the ratings on the show and i wouldn't be surprised if it's got very low ratings.

Extended coverage ended at 12 AM EDT. Longform has returned.

yep, Matthew's now history, i bet this is the last time that we get extended coverage for a tropical depression/storm/hurricane

i wouldn't be surprise if the next time we get extended coverage is either a major severe weather outbreak or our first major named winter storm of this upcoming winter.

as Hurricane Matthew slowly gets closer to Florida possibly as a Cat. 4 hurricane, DirecTV launched a Severe Weather Channel and a Severe Weather Mix channel on the DirecTV lineup temporary for extending coverage of the storm for those who ether evacuated already or staying put but still have power at the moment and can still get signal before the storm wipes it out or the news junkies and weather fanatic watching for the latest just to be up to date.

right now the severe weather channel is a rotation of WPBF out of West Palm Beach, FL (and soon as it gets further north, WESH & WKCF out of Orlando, FL, WJCL out of Savannah, GA, WYFF out of Greenville, SC and WBAL out of Baltimore, MD), WeatherNation & The Weather Channel. it's on channel 362-2

the severe weather mix channel is show a interactive screen of a choice between the severe weather channel, WeatherNation, CNN, The Weather Channel (and soon Fox News and CNBC or MSNBC when they do their coverage of the Hurricane), currently on 321-1 as well as it's normal Sports Mix home (as the channel is preempting the Sports Mix until Matthew has left the US) at 205 and 600.

well, with Matthew being a threat to the east coast, i'm sure The Weather Channel will go to "Red Mode" and do extending coverage possibly as soon as today (as it's past midnight now and no longer Tuesday), beginning at 5 AM EDT, 4 AM CDT,  3 AM MDT and 2 AM PDT & MST (Arizona).

Any word on whether they will do extended live coverage of Matthew?

you bumped a 4 year old thread with the last post before yours being almost 3 years old.

we have the General TWC discussion thread which you already posted in and we also have this:
https://twctodayforums.com/forums/programming/extended-coverage/

and we have a section devoted to programming and graphics now on here:

mods, feel free to lock this thread if you want to.

So if she were to apologize on TV - everything would fine? Hardly.  I read the comments on her apology post and while what she said was idiotic and offensive - people are still bashing her. They're calling her apology pathetic. Fact is, as people we demand apologies from those who mess up...but we don't accept them. We just keep bashing them regardless.

she did apologized on the air, it aired at the start of the 2 PM CDT hour of Weather Center Live.

plus i'm sure TWC will go to Red mode today as Hurricane Matthew gets closer to Florida.

in case you didn't read the Dave Schwartz thread in the OCMs & Personalities, the world lost a great weatherman today as Dave Schwartz lost his battle with Cancer today.

he will be greatly missed.

RIP Dave Schwartz.

Storm Alert music is playing on the LF today but the LDL is still blue.

i don't think The Weather Channel is doing the Black LDL bar with Red logo anymore

i hope Dave beats this and i hope he found the cancer while at an energy stage of Cancer and not at stage four.
You mean an early stage. Cancer sucks.

thanks for letting me know, it's fixed now.

The show will launch next Tuesday at 11PMET. I'm not sure why the show will be airing this late in the evening and it's timeslot has a potential to have low ratings.

looks like The Weather Channel is forced to move it to late night to "Burn off" the remainder of Sam Champion's contract. if this thing does get canceled, then TWC should just release Sam from his contract and send him back to ABC News where he belongs. the guy's done two fill in stints with Good Morning America since he left AMHQ and was replaced by Stephanie Abrams.

i bet you money he's in his last year on his contract or they recently agree not to renew it when it expires.

if you haven't been to the Local Forecast section today, then you haven't noticed the two threads about it

but, guess what returned to LOT8s for the first time in a long time.

it's Smooth Jazz. as much of a Rock and Metal music guy, but hearing Smooth Jazz on LOT8s just feels right and i hope this might be the end of the generic LOT8s Music that debut between Nov. 2013 to 2015.

i also hope when they go to red mode they bring back the iconic Storm Alert theme that debut in 2005.

bumping this thread after a month of inactivity.

anyway, i just switched to DirecTV last week and i noticed on Tonight's listing for The Weather Channel shows that they will be doing live continuous coverage of the severe weather outbreak ongoing now in parts of the southern half of the country. yes, my state is affected, as we seen severals rounds of the storms that hit in the last 48 hours.

i'm rooting for him to beat Cancer.

i'm surprise The Weather Channel didn't force him into a medical leave while he battles cancer.

Cancer's no laughing matter, recently, we lost a few good celebrities in a short amount of time to Cancer.

and this is gonna be The Weather Channel's version of a well know face battling the horrible disease.

last Year, Fox Sports lost truly the most well loved and beloved face of their NASCAR coverage when Steve Byrnes died 2 days after NASCAR dedicated the annual Spring day race at Bristol for the Cup series to him and his battle with cancer.

and not only that, within the last 2 years, ESPN lost Stuart Scott from cancer.

i hope Dave beats this and i hope he found the cancer while at an early stage of Cancer and not at stage four.

edit: replaced the word energy for early as i made a blunder with my fast typing.
