TWC and your Cable Company / Re: DirecTV Dropping TWC
« on: January 11, 2014, 06:21:44 PM »
KeepTheWeatherChannel.com is a joke. The title of the main page (ie. "Don't Let DirecTV control the weather") alone makes me wanna puke. I also noticed that there is no mention on the site as to why DirecTV is threatening to drop the channel. It just says DirecTV is going to drop it unless you call them and your congress person. I don't have a problem with them asking viewers to call DirecTV, but why in the world are they asking congress to get involved!?

Whether it's because of a lack of weather programming or because TWC wants more money, I side with DirecTV. And I'm no fan of DirecTV (even though I have them). It really irks me when channels try to solve their budget issues by sticking it to the cable companies (and in turn their subscribers). If you can't afford to operate within your current budget, then obviously you need to cut some expenses or find a way to earn more money without raising your prices directly or indirectly.

The idea that millions will die if TWC isn't available on DirecTV is bull and they know it. And to see Jim Cantore pimping this campaign of fear is just sad. I thought he had more integrity than that.

I don't see it in the video. I see them watching some weather thing, but it's clearly a fake news station.

Everything Else Classic TWC / Re: Wayback Playback

This Wayback Playback is different from the one Charles put together is it not?
Yes. Charles' was a collection of LF videos within a specific playlist. cc17926 is posting chunks of programming from random dates.

Fixed the page title, thanks! If I understand you correctly, yes, if a song isn't blue and underlined, then I don't have a clip of that song.

Matt/Eric, I'm glad you enjoyed.. Here is another video, from the Blizzard of '96
I remember that time well. The storm was no where near me, but I remember wondering what this new music was. I liked how they faded into almost every song too.

I don't have clips for them. At least not from TWC.

I definitely recognize "Poco Bahia," but not the other song. Great find. Thanks Gary! :D

I've been watching these as you've posted them. Good stuff! I especially liked today's post from Christmas 1994. I think that was the last Christmas playlist where almost every song was good.

I don't know how people who still watch TWC haven't gone insane hearing the same song over and over and...
Matt, I know you are not too fond of that song, but I like tradition. However, I can understand why some people (like yourself) would get tired of hearing it over, and over again. You're probably not alone.
I think he's talking about the two LOT8s songs being used since the new format, not ISTS...  ;)
Yes, I was talking about the two (I thought it was one, they sound almost the same) production songs that have been playing non-stop since the relaunch.

Local Forecast / Re: RIP ~ Real Music
« on: December 09, 2013, 03:24:28 PM »
People used to tell me that even though they had satellite radio, they'd leave their TV on the Weather Channel instead simply because they enjoyed the music.  But when they re-branded to playing pretty random selections - they lost that following too - there's nothing unique or special about their current music.  Now their production value is more like a very expensive power point presentation.
This was definitely the case for me in the 90s. We had a few radio stations and shows in town that played jazz and newage, but they never lasted. So TWC was (at the time) my primary source for that kind of music. That all changed in the early 2000s when they started moving towards rock instrumentals, more traditional jazz, and newage piano.

While the slow eroding of weather coverage, dumbing down of forecasts and analysis, and hiring of "pretty" weather presenters were my primary reasons for watching less and less (until it become nothing), the change in music selections definitely didn't help.

Sites like Youtube and services like Pandora have helped fill the void, but I still miss those days! :)

What about Morning Song by The Rippingtons?
Not that I'm aware of.
Yes, it was used in March 2000.
Really? I looked at that playlist on my site and this, and it's not on there.
