TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Is cable TV going downhill?
« on: February 23, 2014, 10:01:49 PM »
Is it just me, or is A&E taking cues from TWC and creating a new reality show every month? The weird thing is that most of them run for a couple of weeks, and then are never shown again. Shows like Crazy Hearts Nashville, Modern Dads, Psychic Tia, Rodeo Girls, and The Governor's Wife were supposedly the next best thing. Yet I haven't seen an ad about them since their initial run. Which is fine with me. I'm sick of shows about trashy/fake people. And given the success of Duck Dynasty, you'd think they would create new shows that are similar to it (ie. shows that appeal to families). Apparently not (except for Wahlburgers).

HLN (formerly CNN Headline News) is now taking the TWC/MTV path to airing Reality Porgramming, Game Shows and yes, Cartoons.

Wow, that's horrific. And I don't even watch HLN.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Comcast to buy Time Warner Cable
« on: February 15, 2014, 03:25:55 PM »
My problem with Comcast buying TWC is when Comcast bought Adelphia, they promised great service blah blah blah. Here we are years and years later, and my Pap still doesn't have the same "okay" service that I had with Comcast before we switched to Verizon. He still doesn't have the new guide that long-time Comcast customers have, or even access to all the same channels. Seems like they only really care about their long-time service areas.
Exactly. I don't have a problem with large companies. However, when companies expand like this, things usually get worse in terms of customer service. Which would also be fine, as long as there are competitors. But what usually happens is the larger companies lobby congress to create regulations that benefit them. And desperate for campaign donations, they usually say yes.

Imagine the day when Comcast buys all of its competitors and becomes the only cable TV/internet/phone provider in the country.  :fear:   I certainly hope that doesn't become a reality.
It probably will if we don't ease up on regulations that make it impossible for someone to start a new company (or last more than a year). Like finance, cable TV is heavily regulated.

Everything Else Classic TWC / Re: Dan Chandler outside of TWC

Is Dan based in Atlanta? Back in the day, he probably had to live there. Although since the '90s a lot of voiceover work can be done from anywhere.
Yes, I believe so. Maybe not Atlanta proper, but somewhere close to it.

Wow, Dan before working for TWC. Nice find!

If you could get an exact date, that would help. I browsed through my footage from that summer, and I didn't see any reports about NYC. The closest thing I suppose was a TWC and several local reports of a tornado that hit near Philadelphia in early June.

I might have something. Do you remember the date (or at the very least the month)?

Something just came in now - they've written an open letter asking DTV to waive cancellation fees.
It's in PDF format, so I've included the text - in full - below.

That is hysterical! The ego of their current CEO is quite impressive.

I thought I had posted it to YouTube, but apparently not. So I just did! :)

Wish they could change the music too. I can't be the only one who is tired of the same two songs playing on the LF
I got tired of hearing the song in videos. I can't imagine what it would be like to actually watch TWC and hear that for hours on end! :o

I think it's also worth mentioning that even if you have DirecTV, you can still access weather.com. Which I would argue is more accessible than a satellite channel. But then again, weather.com has also become a train wreck over the last few years. I just counted the weather and non-weather stories on the home page. There were 84 stories total with 24 or 29% of them having to do with weather, and 60 or 71% having to do with something other than the weather. Wow! :o

Apparently a new OCM joined the network yesterday, and I'm already not liking her:

Fixed! The file paths were wrong. And have apparently been wrong since that page was created! :o Thanks for letting me know.
