Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion

Not long ago, I saw a severe thunderstorm warning and a flood advisory scroll on top of the new LDL that covered the lower third of the screen...and I thought a new warning system would accompany the new LDLs.

The National Weather Service's Jackson, Miss. office has a page dedicated to the weekend tornadoes.

The parent supercell that spawned the 149-mile EF4 also spawned two more tornadoes with much shorter tracks: one northwest of Starkville, Miss. and another near West Point, Miss.

That's very true about contracts. That's what happened to Conan, since he walked out of a contract before it expired, he can't make ANY TV appearances until after September once the TV Fall Season starts. I would hate to sign a contract where I would be in that kind of predicament, that could be the case with Jim, Steph, and Mike or maybe they don't mind the extra work/assignments.

In Conan's situation, nearly all people who appear on television have what's called a "Non-compete clause" in their contracts. That means if one person takes another job at another network/station in the same market or from one national network to another national network, he/she cannot appear on-air of the new network for several months (six months is the standard). However, that person can do other work at the new network.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Steve Lyons leaving TWC

Great career move for Dr. Lyons: MIC at NWS San Angelo. Shoot, I'd leave TWC too.

The new guys knows his hurricanes. If he can deliver the info clearly, that's all that matters.

I wonder if she will be an official paid employee of TWC before she give birth.

I'm sure her starting date is printed in the contract. It's likely she'll start sometime after the birth of her baby...and she moving to Atlanta. I don't think she's hurting for money.

I remember a good while back that Elizabeth City, N.C. still had a 4000. I wonder if they still have it.

Local Forecast / Re: Should Memphis Get Traffic On The IntelliSTAR?
« on: April 14, 2010, 11:48:08 PM »
TrafficPulse simply pulls all the traffic data from local sources. Because your city or location is not served by them is not their fault. TWC uses them because it would be stupid if not impossible to try and get data from every state/city locale that has data. Traffic data is run by local governments. It is up to that state to spend money on senors and infrastructure for major roadways and interstates.

TennDOT does have traffic info and cameras for the state's metro areas. Traffic.com is run by NAVTEQ. It appears that NAVTEQ and the respective metro area or DOT have a partnership in place that allows NAVTEQ to access and use the data.
