General Discussion / Radio Station in Texas Town to become "Green"
« on: April 03, 2008, 06:47:50 PM »
Yes, you've read right; KAND in Corsicana, TX will become the United States' first "Green" radio station. Its programming consists of eco-friendly News and Talk programs with longtime radio personality Kevin McCarthy (formerly at KLIF 570 AM) filling the 10:00AM to Noon (central time) slot. Although the 1,000 Watt station doesn't cover the immediate Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, KAND will be streaming online to several North Texas listeners. The said "Hybrid" format is set to launch on June 1, 2008.

General Discussion / Lone Lion at Dallas Zoo Dies

Death leaves Dallas Zoo lionless

By JOANNA CATTANACH / The Dallas Morning News

DALLAS, Texas — Boris, the Dallas Zoo's only lion, died Wednesday, zoo officials said. The majestic 415-pound African lion had shown signs of discomfort over the last week, the zoo said, and X-rays showed multiple growths in his chest cavity.

The veterinary staff sedated the lion and spotted what was believed to be a large cancerous mass pressing against his stomach and lungs. The results of a necropsy – the animal equivalent of an autopsy – will determine the official cause of death.

Zoo officials said that the mass inhibited Boris' breathing and that he was unable to recover from the sedation. He died in the early afternoon.

General Discussion / Dallas/Fort Worth still tops in population growth
« on: March 27, 2008, 09:27:14 PM »
I never thought anything like this would happen. I know Dallas/Fort Worth is a major metropolitan area, but I didn't expect this kind of news.

By JIM GETZ / The Dallas Morning News

Population growth in the Dallas-Fort Worth region has slowed, but the area still added more people in 2006-07 than any other metropolitan area in the country, according to new U.S. Census Bureau statistics.

The figures, to be released today, show that the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area – the nation's fourth-largest – increased by an estimated 162,250 in population to top 6.1 million residents. That placed it ahead of sprawling metropolises Atlanta and Phoenix in sheer numerical gain.

The metropolitan-level estimates come a week after census officials released data showing that several North Texas counties had grown at a slower pace in 2006-07 than the previous year. Overall, the D-FW area grew at a rate of 2.7 percent.

General Discussion / City of Dallas to Inspect Cranes

After collapses, councilman calls for crane inspections

By JASON WHITELY / WFAA ABC 8

DALLAS – High above the city, construction cranes slowly expand Dallas' skyline. Despite the progress though, a local councilman questions their safety.

"I'm asking the city manager to look at these cranes and the operators and get somebody out there to inspect them," said Mitchell Rasansky, Dallas City Council, District 13.

Yesterday, in Miami part of a crane fell 37 stories, as it was being added to the main structure, crushing two workers to death.

Ten days ago in New York, another crane collapsed, as it was being raised, killing seven.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
It's a good thing the City of Dallas spoke up about this issue, otherwise, there will be another tragic crane accident close to home.

TWC Fan Art / Michael's Modified TWC Icons
« on: March 16, 2008, 09:17:04 PM »
In addition to Tyler's modified Icons, I've happened to create over a dozen modified icons myself by using Photoshop. Many of the icons were seen on the WeatherStar XL, IntelliStar, and the National TWC Feed and some haven't been in any of the sets. Some of y'all may have already got them, but if not, here they are.

Copyright Notice
All icons are original property of The Weather Channel Networks and TWCi (The Weather Channel Interactive). However, some of the modified icons are properties of their creator Michael Raymond. They can be used freely, however, it is asked that you do not redistribute them. Thanks for your cooperation.

General Discussion / Howdy Folks!
« on: March 16, 2008, 08:15:07 PM »
Hi. I don't know if there was an introduction page, so I'm gonna post here.

Some of y'all may already know me from TWC Classics, but to those who don't, I'm Michael and I live in Irving, TX. I've been a weather nerd since I was 6 years old and became a TWC fan a year later. Nowadays, I only watch TWC for live weather reports and LOT8s.

TWC in my hometown is on Time Warner Cable Ch. 37 and the Local WX ID is #22107.

WeatherScan was in my area on Ch. 99, but since Time Warner took over Comcast's North Texas cluster, they removed it in order to make room for C-Spam...I mean...C-Span 3.
