Local Forecast / Re: Smooth Jazz Return!
« on: March 15, 2016, 01:09:17 AM »
Honestly, how many regular viewers care about the music that's played on the LOT8s anyway?  Especially with the shorter locals, the narrations seem to take up 80% of the time any more, and you can't even hear the music.  And I highly doubt someone is going to turn off the LOT8s because they are so offended that jazz is playing.
Why would one be offended by it?

Well, maybe "offended" wasn't the correct word, but I am not sure why TWC got rid of smooth jazz in the first place.  Were they really losing viewers because jazz was playing on the LOT8s?  I guess I just don't understand how LOT8s music even matters to the average viewer.  Apparently it does if TWC is "testing" all this stuff, but like I said, most of the LOT8s time is taken up by narration anyway (with the exception of the National Feed), and I guess I just can't wrap my head around an average viewer who refuses to watch the LOT8s because they don't like the music that's playing.

Local Forecast / Re: New song during local on the 8s?
« on: February 18, 2016, 12:22:54 AM »
If this song in question is indeed what was on the video cc17926 posted, then it is not new.  In fact, it is the same song TWC used in their Before and After promo when launching Weather All the Time back in 2013.  It's called the TWC Brand Anthem.  Here is that promo with the song in full: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9X3rP_HXRQ.

I believe it was added to the LOT8s a little later than some of the other production tracks, but it still has been playing for a while. ;)

EDIT: Here is another video with the same music (probably even better since it was posted by the composers of the piece): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlTUFAF-cd0.  The change of beat in the middle of the song is them essentially combining the "Storm Alert" music together with the main theme.  Pretty cool.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I have been disappointed in TWC's coverage of this winter storm.  It doesn't seem like they're in true "Storm Alert" mode.  For starters, there's no alert music being played on the LOT8s, although that's not a big deal.  But I thought for a storm of this magnitude they typically have limited commercial breaks and show the LOT8s once every half-our (usually just before the bottom and top of the hour).  However, when I've been watching last night and this morning they have had no problem airing 10 to 15 minutes of commercials every half hour and showing all the LOT8s.  It's also frustrating when the meteorologists have been in the middle of or just starting a long explanation when the music cues up, and they have to abruptly end what they were saying before the commercial break cues.

I guess I should be happy they're doing extended coverage at all and not showing long-form, but I feel like they could be doing a better job.

TWC Today News / Re: Martin's passing and the future of TWC Today
« on: November 02, 2015, 11:34:16 PM »
I apologize for the delayed response, but along with everyone else I too am very saddened by this news.  I believe that preserving the forums and TWC Today site is an excellent way to remember and honor Martin and am excited to see the Administration and Moderation team coming together to make sure it stays alive.  I would also like to help in any way I can with the transition so that all of us may still have a common meeting place to talk about not only TWC, but the weather and major events.

General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove

To pick up back on the conversation about The Splat from the FP, it is going to be a programming block on Nickelodeon. It's supposed to start sometime this month. I kinda find this news to be a bit disappointing. Also, don't they technically already air 90's shows from Nickelodeon on Teennick? I think it would have been better to relaunch their sister channel, Nicktoons as The Splat, but that's just my opinion.

Yeah, 90s shows air on TeenNick (formerly The N, correct?) from like midnight to 6 am or something like that.  I feel like Nick has done a lot of re-branding over the years with their many channels.  I'm guessing since not that many people get TeenNick, they wanted to make the 90s shows available on a channel more people carry.

When exactly does The Splat air?  I can't seem to find it on the TV Guide, and don't know if it's a true dedicated segment like "Nick@Nite" or what?  Also, they really need to think about re-branding Nicktoons or replacing it, because I don't think they even show solely cartoons on that channel anymore.  Isn't there like NFL stuff or whatever on that now?  Guess they could always get rid of or replace the Nick Jr. channel. :P

Sorry I'm a couple days late, but that means the Pot Belly Stove has had enough time to warm up for your arrival!  Welcome to fall, everyone! :)

It's been great to hear from some of our veteran members again!  I hope you all will continue to stop by every once in awhile.  For now, please join the conversation over in the Pot Belly Stove as fall has officially arrived.  We will see everyone back here on March 20, 2016 for the start of spring!

Good riddance! :)
I completely agree with you! Nice to see that show go! :) I just hope Vivian Brown doesn't go too.  :fear:

Uh, you might want to check this topic...

Everything Else TWC / Re: Production Music Identification Thread

That WC theme was my favorite theme from that era. Thanks!

Now if only someone could find the full version of the production music from this era of Weather Center: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhkamYUewlE  I bet it was probably produced in-house and isn't on one of the commercial production sites, but man was this my favorite.

The article says that TWC will likely find another use for Al as he is "well liked" at the network.  Something tells me he will find his way onto AMHQ, although with that running at the same time as "TODAY" I don't know.  Maybe they will try to find some way to have dual-feeds between the two shows.  That would be kind of neat.  Although I can't decide who I think I more annoying: Al Roker or Sam Champion.

I feel like Stephanie will be on AMHQ as well.  This is just my opinion, but Stephanie does NOT belong on WUTV.  I know she and Mike always worked well together, but I feel she would dumb down the show too much, which is not good since its primary purpose it to appeal to the "nerdy" audience.

It seems like TWC is running into financial problems, resulting in these recent cuts (which, as I look back on an AdWeek article from April, is true).  They are wanting to sell portions of their company, they perhaps laid off another veteran OCM, and they cancelled WUWA because the show "resulted in expensive production costs."

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Vivian Brown DONE at TWC

Wow, this is incredibly short notice.  I, too, am very saddened by this news as I certainly enjoyed watching her.  I wish her the best of luck in the future.

Based on the article that Adrian posted in which she supposedly said it is with great "disappointment" that she's leaving, it almost sounds like this wasn't her decision. That and the fact that she's gone at the first of the month, I don't know...

i just check and due to Erika falling apart, it looks like it's back to the normal Saturday afternoon schedule programming on Weather Channel.

Yeah, my guide still says "Tropical Alert: Tracking Erika" but long form is on.  Too bad we couldn't see more live weekend coverage.  I wonder if it's ever happened before where TWC planned to pre-empt a large block but then fell back on the deal because it was no longer necessary?

Programming and Graphics / Re: New Live Show hosted by Mike Bettes

I'm very interested to see how this is going to work out.  I like the idea, but based on the promos and that "music video," they are not only going for a geeky theme but also over-the-top cheesy.  I guess I was hoping for something a little more professional, but that's obviously not the angle they are approaching this from.
