Programming and Graphics / Re: AMHQ Early Cannned????
« on: March 24, 2020, 07:15:08 AM »
Jen Carfagno stated on Twitter that AMHQ Early has been discontinued temporarily. I’m guessing this is because TWC’s employees/producers have been working from home these past few weeks.

Thank you again! As for the feedback, I am happy to help and I’m very thankful that you have let us test out the new app.

As Everblack said, thank you for the update! I just wanted to just add that the reason I brought up the location picker is that entering my local ZIP code (78501) does not bring up the city it is for, which is McAllen, TX. I have to pick locations that are about 10 or 15 miles away from me, instead of just selecting the city which that ZIP code belongs to. I hate to nitpick, but just wanted to share my observation. Thank you again for your contribution and for your help!

This app is amazing! Can’t wait to see what comes of this once it is officially released! This is definitely a great alternative to TWC and Weatherscan. I do wish that the location selection wasn’t so specific, as the location selection is a bit odd. The app asks me to select areas that are 10+ miles from my ZIP code. Other than that, this is pretty solid already.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

That old “V-wall” as they called it, is being replaced with a new Immersive Mixed Reality set. Will be interesting to watch what that will look like.

Might want to report it to Weather Group, my Star is just fine.

I definitely noticed it being on Fridays. Previous to last week, they played 60s music so I’m guessing it’s all by decade.

General Discussion / Re: Charles Abel-Lear 1980-2019

This is truly heartbreaking news. Charles left a huge impact on the TWC community and he sure did leave an impact on me as well. Although I did not know him personally, I really did look up to him and I wished that I could be as talented as he was. I am just shocked and saddened and wish I had time to tell him how he inspired the hobby that has become my graphic design career.

My condolences to his family, his friends and to everyone that was touched by his great legacy.

I’ve thought about this recently, and I guess it’s just that most veteran members have moved on, as things with TWC just aren’t the same anymore (for some) or others just don’t have the time to look over the forums with life getting in the way. There’s also been a rise in instant messaging platforms like Skype, Telegram, Instagram, Discord, etc. I’m not trying to say that forms are now totally obsolete, but messaging platforms have really changed the way most fan groups and communities communicate nowadays.

I wish things could change, but with TWC changing to adapt to the modern age of weather information being easily available on the internet and other messaging platforms like Discord, I don’t think it would be easy to bring people back here.

It’s also pretty sad that the connection between TWC and this fanbase has been totally lost (mostly because there isn’t a fanbase anymore), and I wish there were a way to revive that connection. Again, this is merely wishful thinking and I’m not saying that we could change TWC if that were to happen, but I do think they’d listen better to us if somehow we could regain their attention.

I’ve thought of this place a lot as I started my experience with TWC here, and it’s sad to see it in this state. I miss this place.

TWC can’t completely kill off the sidebar, here’s a graphic they’re using during commercials now.

First look at the new severe weather graphics area/special graphics area. Looks pretty neat, though the text is a bit small, even in HD.

Edit: They also have this alternate graphic with current storm stats during these box shots:

The lower third has an empty space to the right of it. That area is for severe weather information and other random info they throw there. Should be interesting to see in action.

She’s on again this morning alongside Alex Wallace, Julie Martin and Dr. Greg Postel. Since when did Weather Center Live need 4 hosts?  :dunno:

Local on the 8s returned at 10:48 AM Central. Just saw an LF, no radar but nonetheless it’s back. Interesting to note that it seems the Emergency Feed is running instead of the National LF.

I wouldn’t say just yet that the LFs are gone. We don’t know. TWC had a major attack on their network and they might still be working on fixing what they can. Last I checked, radar wasn’t being sent to the Stars so that might be what they’re working on.
