Local Forecast / Re: Jeff Stern
« on: October 03, 2013, 09:40:29 PM »
I believe all my unknowns are from prior to 1996. And I believe we figured out what songs were his by process of elimination. But this would definitely be good news! What made you suspect this was him?

Honestly, just the fact that his name is Jeff Stern and he's a musician lol. And he seems to be the right type of musician too. He's the ONLY Jeff Stern I've been able to find whose a musician.

I don't want to prematurely excite anybody, but I thnk I have finally found another elusive TWC artist, Jeff Stern. Jeff had two songs on TWC in the late 90's, Forward Motion, and Morning Steps. Neither song has ever been located, and they may be amongst Matt's unknown songs. Anywho, I found him on Linkedin:

I've sent him a message, so we'll see what happens. Just to be clear, I'm not at all sure this is the right Jeff Stern, but it looks to be at least a strong possibility. And of course a response is not at all guaranteed, as we know.

Could have just been an alias he used, just like how Frank Josephs and Ray Herrmann have used the aliases CC Gilmore and Samuel Lincoln, respectively.
Seems unlikely. They don't look alike.

Yeah I agree. I'm 99.9% sure they're two different people.

I hope he gets back to me too, though nothing so far. And if you've been around here for any length of time you know that some of these obscure artists are extremely hard to communicate with. Wouldn't be the first time I've e-mailed someone and not gotten a response.  :club:

I have finally tracked down the website of Timothy Bright, whom if you recall we believe is the artist behind the song Morning Awakes by Dover. His site is here: http://www.60cyclemusic.com/. There is no information specifically about anything TWC related, but there is an e-mail address, so I've sent him an e-mail. I'll let you all know what I find out if I hear back from him!

This happened a few times in with obscure artists in the late 90s. Lauri Stuble's "Weather or Not" turning into Edgar Struble's "No Rough Edges" comes to mind.

True, but at least in that case you can kinda understand how that might happen, since they're husband and wife. There's not yet an (obvious) connection between Bobby and Gary.

Wow, what a really great find!  Has the song just been misidentified for 14 years or what? :dunno:

Also, for the record, there are comments on the two videos of the song on Youtube that suggested the name of the song.

I was thinking the same thing Zach. How on earth does that even happen? You would think TWC would know whose music it was. I wonder if Gary has some connection to Robert McLaughlin/Bobby Love?

Casey, I was gonna guess you used Shazam, so I was close!

Wow, this is incredible! How in the world did you ever manage to stumble across this?

While we're talking about Robert McLaughlin, I'm not sure if this was known, but he and Bobby Love are one and the same. Check out his Linkedin profile: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/bobby-love-mclaughlin/26/8b6/790

Local Forecast / Terry Coleman
« on: September 27, 2013, 10:03:48 PM »
I have some big news for you guys! I found Terry Coleman on ReverbNation the other day when I posted Scott Emmerman's page. His page can be found here: http://www.reverbnation.com/socolemusic. His song Cool Breeze is there, as are a few Physical Therapy songs, but none of his other TWC music is. I've been in touch with him, and he says he's going to send me a link to where his other music can be purchased. That was Wednesday and I haven't heard anything yet, but as soon as I do I'll let you all know!

Yeah, I posted it from my cell phone, so I guess that's why it goes to a mobile site. Sorry about that Bryan. This link should work for you:

Nice find! I was never able to find "Sky Blues." "Top of Mind" seems to be a re-recording here.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about Top of Mind when I heard it.

I have found both of Scott Emmerman's TWC songs, Sky Blues and Top of Mind, in the following website: http://m.reverbnation.com/artist/3507826/songs. Both are full length, and free of charge.

For anyone interested, Don's music can be purchased digitally through his website, http://music.dongrusin.com/. His music has generally been pretty easy to find on Amazon, but for those who prefer instant gratification (like myself lol) this is a pretty cool find since for whatever reason it doesn't seem his music can be downloaded through Amazon or iTunes. Further, you can listen to all of his songs in their entirety for free if you prefer not to buy them.

Local Forecast / RIP Tom Borton
« on: September 15, 2013, 11:01:08 PM »
Just thought I'd share this for those who'd like to know, apparently Tom Borton is dead. I happened to stumble on this info while trying to find his two TWC songs (which happen to be two of my favorite TWC songs) Wherever You Are and Looking for a Way. He seems to have died rather recently, less than 2 years ago.  :o

IF memory serves me right, we're starting to have a little list of TWC musicians who have died, aren't we? I seem to remember several threads like these in the past.

Local Forecast / Tommy Nehls
« on: September 14, 2013, 01:41:46 PM »
Hey guys, I have some more good news to pass along. I'm not sure if you all were aware, but Tommy Nehls has a website, tommynehls.com. Both of his TWC songs are available, though they are not amongst the samples on the site. Simply contact him using the contact form on the site. He will send you a CD with "Right Now" and "Rain Jam" for $12. He said they're actually on separate albums, but would burn the songs to a CD to save me money.  B)
