The Lab is complete! It debuts Thursday at 5 pm ET. Here's a pic from @JimCantore.

Here is another pic (via Michael Lowry) of the new expert desk, which is being called "The Lab." I like the look of it, but the name is a little tacky IMO.

via Alex Wallace on Twitter: "New expert area at @weatherchannel almost ready to debut!!!"

That looks awesome! They have apparently been doing a lot of remodeling in the newsroom there. Here's another pic from a TWC producer. http://instagram.com/p/qiB9gry3K9/

Noticed these interesting maps this morning during the "National Park forecast" this morning on WCL.

For some strange reason, Sam Champion is on TWC right now, anchoring the 7pm hour of the hurricane Iselle coverage. Bryan Norcross is co-anchoring with Sam. Kelly Cass and Paul Goodloe are also in studio while Cantore reports from Hawaii. TWC will be live all night covering the hurricanes headed towards Hawaii.

I was watching AMHQ this morning and it was great. Mike was the main host as Sam was not there. Jen Carfagno was filling in for Maria. Carl Parker was doing the tropical update segments, and Anaridis did her normal news segments. I don't hate Sam, but I just think he is kind of annoying. He tries to dominate the show too much while Mike and Maria play second fiddle. I really enjoy Mike as a main host: he is likable and laid back. I'm beginning to think that the show would be better with this team, and judging by the comments I've seen on AMHQ's Facebook and twitter pages, I'm not alone.

Another former CNN meteorologist has joined TWC. Bonnie Schneider made her debut on Friday with Dave Schwartz and is also anchoring severe weather coverage today with Reynolds Wolf.

Mike Bettes mentioned earlier that he and his wife are expecting their first child at the beginning of next year. Good for them.  :D

General Discussion / Re: AccuWeather Channel
« on: July 22, 2014, 10:11:02 PM »
Can anyone provide any insight as to why Accuweather is launching this network? I can't really figure it out. It just seems like it's a niche market, that's already being served by TWC and Weathernation. In this digital age, where people can quickly get weather on their computers or phones, is there much demand for another 24 hour weather network? I just can't see how Accuweather is expecting to make money from this.

Programming and Graphics / New Show: "WXGeeks"
« on: July 15, 2014, 05:44:52 PM »
Just saw this on Twitter. The Weather Channel is debuting a new talk show, called "WXGeeks", this Sunday at noon eastern. It's being called "a show produced by meteorologists, for Weather Geeks."

It looks like the first show will feature Chris Warren, Dr. Marshall Shepherd, and Dr. Chuck Doswell.
