I think you're talking about this: https://twitter.com/daveclark/status/635132309591580672

As of right now, nothing yet on DISH, anyone see anything?  I would think DISH/DTV would get something since that pic looks like a national IS.
That's what I was trying to find. Thanks for bringing that up, I couldn't find that picture anymore.

Meanwhile, the updates have arrived to my local I2XD. What I've seen different so far include the new radar and a new almanac product, but what else is different? All that's there are those two new products. It seems as if all the other products on the sidebar were scrapped for the new ones. I like the new products, but was it actually necessary to remove all the other information that was there previously?
Honestly, some of the information was less important, but quite a few products were good, if not great.

Now I think they need to work on updating Weatherscan. It's really outdated in my opinion.... LOL
I doubt they will update it anytime in the future. They've announced a new local service called LocalNow in the past few months (I had heard about this about a month or two ago), for what I assume are internet television services? I don't know for sure. :dunno:

In a response to a Tweet today to David Clark someone asked if there was gonna be any "tweaks/updates to the Intellistars anytime soon" and he replied back saying "always updates. Tomorrow - Radar!" I wonder what that means????
Chances are he's referring to the upcoming radar insert on the I2HD/XD's side bar, which was shown a little while back here on the forums.

I'm late in posting this, but here's my latest and improved WeatherStar Jr. emulation (finally figured out how to post video here):
! No longer available

Note: I'm working on an improved edition of my WeatherStar XL HD emulation at the moment.

If they're focusing on WEATHER now, I don't know why everyone is so concerned about what's going to happen to LOT8s?
Among other various things, a picture of an upcoming radar product for the I2 sidebar was shown on General TWC Discussion, which brought up the question if LOT8s was going to be cut back further than it already is sometimes. (Perhaps the idea behind this reasoning is because all the local information could be put on the sidebar. Honestly, I doubt this will happen, seeing as the WeatherStar units were primarily made to display full screen local forecasts. Who knows, though? :dunno:)

IMO, I'm excited to see what they're planning on doing. Everything sounds like it really might be a transition back to mostly weather (something that might actually bring me back to TWC for the first time in forever), but at the same time I'm wondering whether the promises will actually be fulfilled or not. The DirecTV dispute made them realize that longform wasn't working too well- although they did cut back somewhat, it was not truly weather all the time. Our local headend has yet to install a I2HD (we have an I2XD on the SD channel), and because of this, we get the HD feed for the whole nation. The national weather doesn't even show during longform. I hope that they'll live up to that promise, to show weather all the time with this return to weather. It's almost been 2 years now (only ≈2 months until then) since the initial revamp.

Now if they re-add smooth jazz to the LF's (perhaps bring back longer LOT8s as well), I'm in.  B)

Introducing the WeatherSTAR XL HD! (of course, an emulation)
This emulation explores the concept of if TWC either never made the IntelliStar or had just decided to resurrect the XL name for an HD platform. Here are some backstory ideas based on those concepts.
  • 1st Timeline, approx. 2003: TWC, struggling with the creation of the IntelliStar 1 for whatever reason, decides to call it quits and decides to create a second-generation XL instead. Eventually, with the rise of HD video quality, TWC creates an WeatherSTAR XL HD.
  • 2nd Timeline, approx. 2010: TWC resurrects the WeatherSTAR XL name for the HD STAR. Eventually, with the IntelliStar 1's aging, TWC creates a third-generation SD XL.
The WeatherSTAR XL HD's appearance is a crossover of the IntelliStar 1's v3 background and the WeatherSTAR XL's v3 fonts, icons, and general layout. Notable difference: no background for the text. I may change this if requested. Also, I will add a few more LDL products by next video.
I haven't added in data yet, but I will by the next video. I'll also add more detail to the radar map.

(if anyone can tell me how to place this video here, please message me)

It's been a while since I've posted any art here. Here's my recent WeatherStar Jr. emulation:

Keep waiting just a few more days, I have a way better emulation (with a really interesting concept behind it) coming up!

Just to let you know, tomorrow will officially mark the 10 year anniversary of The Weather Channel's logo change.

Hard to believe it's been 10 years already. I still miss the old logo. Anyone's thoughts about the anniversary tomorrow?
I miss the old formats and logo as well. My local IntelliStar was around previously to the changes (can't remember exactly) and was put out of service only few weeks ago. It had a good 10/11-year run. You're right, it's hard to believe it's been 10 years...

I think my local headend really hated the i2jr, as they've ditched it for the i2XD!

Xfinity in my local area still has the IS1 and Weatherscan. I've been wondering the exact thing myself, and I've been watching TWC more recently to see if they've yet to upgrade.
As of this morning, IntelliSTAR #22941 (Comcast/Xfinity) has been retired after a 9-day outage. It was replaced with an I2jr. Weatherscan continues to live on.

This just came to me the other day, but anyone think this will affect Weatherscan's fate? Since it's essentially the same hardware (and likely the same feed) as the domestic IS.

Also for some odd reason I still get the Fall Outdoor Activities instead of Spring Outdoor Activities.   :pinch: :censored:
Same thing happens to me.
I've had the same problem as well.

I managed to get the Weather underground API working. Now I have a working radar!

It needs a little bit of tweaking, as the gif flashes blue and black where the sea is. A better way would be to take the frames and store them to show up individually.

But also because I got access to the APIs. Here's the forecast!

Progress is great!

Good job! I can't wait to see more

Same here. Nothing but 404s on every page.
