General Discussion / Michigan Weatherman Sonny Eliot Dies at 91
« on: November 16, 2012, 09:48:35 PM »
Sonny Eliot, a famous weatherman in Michigan, well known for his humorous forecasting tactics, has died at the age of 91, and just a few weeks before his 92nd birthday.
Sonny was a veteran of World War II, who soon after the war began a career in broadcast meteorology. Throughout the years, he worked at various television stations in Detroit, MI, before retiring in the 80's (I believe.) After he retired from television broadcasting, he forecasted for radio station WWJ 950 AM out of Detroit until 2010, after 60 years in broadcasting. He will be dearly missed by the many people that loved watching or listening to his forecasts.

Here's a couple tributes from local news stations:

Is Comcast rebranding to Xfinity really worth it?

After we all give thanks for what we have on Thanksgiving, people have to go out and purchase (usually) unnecessary items.

Barack Obama wins re-election.
Mitt Romney concedes.
Marriage equality is made legal in Maine and Maryland.
The first openly gay Senator is elected as well.

 The government is become way too liberal.

Unless the Republican Party can realize that their ideology is becoming unpopular among a large portion of Americans and start appealing to the youth vote and the minorities, they are going to continue having trouble getting into the White House. It's disappointing - the Republican Party used to be an excellent party in the earlier years of this country.

The Republican Party definitely needs to become more appealing to younger people. The results in school-wide elections/mock-elections have always been Democratic at my schools. However, that may be in part due to me living in one of the more Democratic parts of Michigan.

They didn't name the winter storm that dumped over a foot of snow over northwest Minnesota a few weeks ago...

Some people have been saying that PA is a tossup state. Actually, Obama has been holding steady in PA, with exception of Romney gaining a bit of momentum, but not enough to win it. I agree with Tavores' map, however, Romney also has a good chance of winning Colorado as well. At this point I think Obama will win the electoral college with anywhere from 289-303, and also winning the popular vote by a small margin.

#1 is the lie!
You're right!

#3 is the lie.

1.- I'm 15 and in 10th grade.
2.- I was born in 1997.
3.- I'm very interested in meteorology.
#1 must be the lie.
Actually, #2 is the lie. I was born on 12/17/1996, which still makes me 15 for the next month and couple weeks.

Apparently TWC companies owns Bain Capital? That's a little surprising that a division of NBC owns it, since Mitt Romney co-founded it.

Yesterday, I saw the most amazing surface vortex, picking up leaves. It began in a field behind a restaurant, pulling in air and leaves. It went across a road, and eventually ended a couple minutes later in a parking lot of a different restaurant. The vortex extended from the surface to probably at least 100 feet.
