Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Danielle
« on: August 23, 2010, 07:19:08 PM »
Models rapidly intensify this and I expect this to be our next D storm in time. Looks for now to be a fish

I see that one little model prediction that takes Danielle toward Philly/NYC/NJ... I would be very surprised if it's right, as seeing every other model taking the system off toward Europe or extreme North Atlantic.

It's awesome how a Tropical Depression went to a Hurricane in about 24 hours time.
I'm not really expecting the system to the east of Danielle to be as strong as it may be, because Danielle could be taking energy away from the following possibility.

Here are some lightning pics from storms we had again last night
Wow, I've tried taking pictures of lightning before, but I would be too late. I probably wasted hundreds of pics to lightning misses.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: Site/Forum Performance

Page Load Speed: 9.5 (Loads in fine for me)
Audio/Video load speeds: 7.5
Search speeds: 5.0
Latency: 8.0
Database/mySQL errors: 6.0

Overall: About a 7. I think the site is fairly managed but the search speeds are a little slow for me. (Maybe it's just my computer.)

Its a shame that a lot of storms have sheared off this year  :hmm: i wonder that when predictions are made that they only look at water temps but not wind patterns :dunno: just seems that way lol
Shear is excellent for tornadoes but an enemy for a tropical system.

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Depression Six
« on: August 22, 2010, 08:58:14 PM »
I don't think TD6/soon to be Danielle will make it to the U.S. or even Canada. I think the High Pressure over the U.S. now will definately turn it due north, and then push it northeast once it approaches Bermuda. Therefore, even if this system becomes a Cat 2 or higher, TWC won't go into Storm Alert mode. But you never know, it's still over a week away...

General Discussion / Re: What do you drive?
« on: August 22, 2010, 08:52:33 PM »
I'm only 13, turning 14 in December but I sometimes drive my dad's car with him in an old vacant parking lot.  :P (It's a dark green 1996 For Explorer) My mom drives a dark blue/blackish Ford Fusion. (My dad works for Ford's)

OCMs & Personalities / Re: List by seniority
« on: August 22, 2010, 08:48:16 PM »
I kind of have a feeling that Morrow will be leaving soon. (It's just my senses, I didn't hear it from anywhere.) I see he is way up on the top of the list.

Landmartk didnt have a choice to TWC themselves or not. The founder of TWC was ill only to find out he passed under a year later and they didnt have the money

The OCMs are placed in slots where NBC sees the most popularity and priority. It seemed moving A&B to mornings after Marshall Seese retiring made YWT popular again (opinion)

For the news stuff, graphics, rock music, etc, thats NBCs way of bringing in money and Im sure TWC likes that just for $$$

Overall they really havent jumped the shark. The info-displayed L3rd was introduced prior to NBCs purchase and they have told news-related stories in the past. When i see the stories, I still see some weather applied into them although a bear attack and arrest seems a little too much

As for OCM layoffs, they happen. The OCMs that get layed off are likely ones coming close to renewal (except for Bill Keneely since he haad higher seniority and has been there forever) and they dont have the money to handle paying them. Yes they could keep their jobs but they would have to have lower pay which they dont want :hmm:
Wasn't part of the reason why Landmark gave up TWC to NBC was due to the Hillary Andrews/Bob Stokes lawsuit?

Samantha Mohr and other TWC OCM's had a party for Bill at Sam's house, as seen on her Facebook page.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: ATT U-Verse and STARs...
« on: August 21, 2010, 11:21:17 AM »
I think there used to be STAR's with AT&T Broadband until it was decommisioned in 2003. (Look at the video on YouTube: WeatherStar XL 7/5/02.)

OCMs & Personalities / Re: OCM Layoff- Bill Keneely
« on: August 21, 2010, 10:54:02 AM »
Until he was let go Bill Keneely was the last of the original OCMs and is (was) the longest on air personality to date (28 years). There are three remaining OCMs who've been @ TWC prior to 1990: Jeff Morrow (1985), Jim Cantore (1986) and Vivian Brown (1988).
Jim and Vivian I think are somewhat safe. Not sure about Jeff. Hope TWC doesn't loose him
They better not lay off Jim Cantore!
That will certainly not happen, he's the center of TWC. I mean, I hope not, but you never know with NBCU these days.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: New OCM- Bryan Norcross
« on: August 21, 2010, 10:48:36 AM »
Bryan really is a good meteorologist and fits perfectly as an OCM on TWC. Finally NBCU and TWC made ONE good choice.  :P BTW, did Bryan come from a local station owned by NBC? If he did, I can understand even more why TWC picked him up.

Local Forecast / Re: August 2010 playlist
« on: August 21, 2010, 10:43:36 AM »
More jazzy songs are on this primetime list, I guess that's a good thing. I like most of the songs on this list.
What other jazz songs do you see on the primetime list? The only jazz song on it is "Diamond Eyes" by Michael Haggins. All of the repeats are rock. The Beach Street Music songs are a mix of rock/new-age production music, Essence by Ryan Farish is new-age, Yet Unknown, Have a Cigar, NY/Melting Pot and Monoliths are rock songs as well
Yeah, I guess your right. But some of those songs you mentioned have a slight jazzy feeling, though, for some reason.
