Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

Was Weather Center full-controlled today? They showed stuff that I don't normally see in a master controlled show.
Yes because they cancelled SS

That's not related. I wish I would have been home to see WC today. :(

Are they working 4 hours today?

Who? The PME crew? No, they only work until 7PM ET when Abrams & Bettes starts and goes for two hours, followed by a three-hour Evening Edition.

OCMs & Personalities / Rich Johnson is starting to go Cantore on us
« on: February 06, 2008, 02:17:11 AM »
It's after 2AM now, and the layers of clothing on Rich are starting to come off as the we head late into the night. :P

He's now starting to sport the Cantore look of a shirt and tie with rolled up sleeves.

That's definitely something new. I can't recall them ever using that before.

It looks like TWC has installed another new Skytracker unit recently. Sharon just mentioned "Skytracker 6" a few minutes ago.

We're back to the normal playlist now.

BTW, for those of you with cable who couldn't see what was happening underneath your STAR, TWC was having issues where frozen commercials were appearing instead of the satellite LF and LF music, so they kept manually switching to the emergency feed during every LF for a time.

The projection comes from behind the screen, so there's no problem. If you tune into ESPN, you can see the technology in place on two of their sets. The SportsCenter set uses a two-sided video "column" that has a total of four rear-projection screens (stacked in two layers), and they have another set that has a huge projection screen akin to what you might find on TWC.

Here's a picture of the SportsCenter "column" turned off:

The following photos show the huge HD projector that I speak of...

http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6528309.html

This article, published today, lays out a whole slew of changes coming to TWC when they move to HD, including

*Rear-projectors replacing chroma-keys almost entirely
*A move to Titan HD for radar products
*Usage of the Evertz master control switcher
*A slew of other infrastructure changes

One thing I don't understand is the sentence stating that the HD master control room opened in December. I figured it would have opened months prior to that in order to broadcast HD programming.

By the way, as of this past Friday, the current Weather Center package became the longest running Weather Center package of this decade, beating out the 2001-2003 package. The original WC package still remains the longest running package in the show's history, as that lasted at least 3 years and 4 months. If the current package remains active even after YWT and EE go HD, then the current package stands a good chance at being the longest running WC package ever.

The article does mention that the series continues to air on TWC and that they're looking to bring new life to the series, so they might keep it airing on TWC.

Translation: This is a last ditch effort on our part to increase viewership for this show. If this doesn't work, we'll be yanking it on TWC.  :P

True. It does sound very desperate.

I Want The 1998-2006 Icons Back

You could always start another electrical fire at TWC. :P
