While on the topic of WWCH, are they making any new shows? Or are they keep going to showing the same reruns over and over?

Was tonight's episode new? I'm not even keeping track anymore.

During the middle of PM Edition tonight, the spotlight shining on the American flag burned out. It was lit at the start of the show but burned out by the time they returned to the desk at 5:25 PM CT. I wonder if they stayed away from the desk for so long because it was flickering or something. The set is really starting to go down the dumps lighting-wise. :(

On a positive note, master control treated us with a classic extra-long PM Edition opener at 5:30 CT. They haven't used one of those in over a year or more, I'd venture to guess.

Programming and Graphics / Re: What happened to Weather Classroom?
« on: March 02, 2008, 03:16:47 PM »
They actually do show Forecast Earth during the Weather Classroom timeslot on some weekends. They used to frequently air the Nick Walker version during that timeslot. Weather Classroom should air next neek.

When TWC made the horrible decision not to preempt long-form programming during the tornado outbreak on 2/16, I sent them a respectful but scathing feedback form about that decision, and finally on Thursday, I got a personal response from Chris. At least they took the time to personally respond.

Thank you for contacting The Weather Channel Interactive.

I will forward your email message, expressing your dissatisfaction with our
decision not to pre-empt our long-form programming in order to provide viewers
with updates on any current or potential severe weather outbreaks to our
producers and programming directors. It greatly concerns us that our failure
to deviate from our regularly scheduled programming during inclement weather
situations had such a negative impact on your viewing of The Weather Channel.

We are always happy to hear from our viewers and hope you will continue to
watch The Weather Channel for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Chris Hoitsma

Carl Parker and Jennifer Lopez are back together once again today on Weekend Now. :)
I had a feeling we would start seeing them working together again more often now that Dave's out of the way. He used to be the primary fill-in for Day Planner Mon-Wed and for Weekend Now until getting moved to a Wed-Sun shift.

It seems to me that Carl is more comfortable and conversational when working with Jennifer. When he's working with a few other OCMs, he has a tendency to be "strictly business" at times.

Everything Else TWC / Volvo flatters TWC
« on: February 29, 2008, 10:36:10 PM »
I meant to bring this up when I first saw it a few weeks ago, but there's a Volvo SUV ad out there now that features a mock weather forecast with the fake "OCM" forecasting good performance by the SUV in the wintry weather, resulting in "a lot of togetherness".

At the very end of the commercial, the "OCM" ends by saying, "Now, your Local Forecast."

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Dennis Smith gone?

I saw Dennis back in March 2006 when he was filling in for Weekend Weather Center

You did? How come no one else saw this when it happened?

Well, they let it go all last spring until they made a few repairs in June and finally repaired it to perfect condition in August.

If you look at a video from say, May, almost every single background light was out; the place looked like a dungeon.

The light on the pillar to the left of the GFC burned out sometime today. The studio is going to start looking really dark and gloomy now unless they decide to replace some of these lights. They've been letting the studio go without repair since 12/30. They should fix it up one last time to say goodbye, IMO.

Thunder has a thread, why can't Steve?

Not that I care any :P

I don't really want one, anyway. :sunglasses:

BTW, back on topic, they fired up Viz|Weather for another forecast graphic for today's resumation of Sunday's postponed Sprint Cup action, and they still had the name incorrectly listed at "California Speedway". I guess information doesn't travel quickly to TWC.

@Kyle:
But they are all relevant points for separate topics. :P

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Mike Bettes - wearing a tie tonight
« on: February 24, 2008, 01:19:13 AM »
Okay, I'm starting to get a little insight on this whole deal today. After catching today's edition of Forecast Earth, I see that Mike appeared on the show, and he was wearing the same tie that he wore the very first night he wore a tie on A&B this week, so apparently he wore the tie on A&B because he happened to be wearing it on Forecast Earth that day. It still doesn't explain why he's worn a tie every day since, though. Perhaps somebody liked him better wearing a tie?

Dave's on weather.com again on this fine Saturday night. I wonder if Saturday night weather.com is going to be a regular gig for him...

Adam didn't even get to say goodbye to the gang tonight on EEWC. Instead the last segment anticlimactically went down like this:

*return from break*
Adam: Hey, Everybody! Your Sunday Outlook is coming up right n...
*show cuts to break, ends*

Yes, that all happened within five seconds. Someone really screwed up the timing on that. The only thing I could think is that someone programmed Saturn incorrectly; I noticed that the break leading up to that final segment lasted much longer than it should have.
