TWC Today News / Re: New Registration Process

This is a good idea; I remember being surprised that I didn't have to activate when I first registered.

They just opened First Outlook with a 2005-2007 series lower third. They quickly cut it off within seconds, though.

Matt, could I suggest a sans-serif font for your design? Serif fonts (i.e., Times New Roman) look awkward on the web.

Did anybody notice that Dave Schwartz wore three different ties today? He wore a yellow one for the first 15 minutes, then a red, black, and white striped tie for the rest of Weather Center (1 hour, 20 minutes), followed by a black and white striped tie for PM Edition (1 hour).

Everything Else TWC / Re: Frequent Commercials
« on: April 28, 2008, 12:15:55 AM »
Don't you guys think TWC could cut down the number of commericals they show? I understand the reason is for money and profits but they need to think about the viewers too. Back in the day they wouldn't have that many commercials now they have commercials 6-7 times an hour!

Does anyone else think the frequent commercials on TWC are annoying?
Theres also a content issue there, it would be hard to fill half of the commercial time with on air / related content wise, you have to think of this from both angles.

Not really, they could cover a lot more weather at the maps and go a lot more in-depth. They have to graze through certain segments these days due to time constraints.

Random note: at the top of this hour, they generated a lower third in the middle of the screen and at like 25% scale. I've never seen that before.

Also, they opened the hour with the same production music that begins most regular editions of EE.

Something just seems different about the production tonight, and what really seems to be hinting toward a full controlled broadcast is the usage of the EE-specific live bug at the top of the hour, which was quickly removed. Nevertheless, over the past 11 months of the current Master show production format, not once have they proven the ability to use show-specific live bugs. Master Controlled PME weekend and live editions of EEWC have always utilized the regular blue live bug.

Also, for the top of the hour teasers, they used the one-line lower thirds that "erase" the text and type out a new line when the headline changes between videos. Master has never proven the ability to use that type of L3, either. Master always generates a new lower third for each headline. Also, the fluidity of transitions and usage of music (especially at the top and bottom of the hour) is something that would normally be seen in full controlled productions only. Either Master has stepped up the game in a big way, or this is a full controlled production tonight.

Paul Goodloe did tonight's weather.com forecasts without a suit coat; that's different.

I thought I'd miss Dwight doing EEWC, but whoever is working Master now is actually making use of the music that Stephen Arnold Music made for the show and even using the more rare cuts of music. For the first hour teaser, they used the highly rare "stinger" track that is rarely used on the full controlled show when coming back from break. I love that music.

The new Master operator has used nothing but EE music for the past two nights, and plenty of it, too!

I could help but laugh several minutes ago when, without even being tossed to by Rich, Sharon said after the Travel opener played, "It's time to take you traveling now so let's go do that."

Now just a few seconds ago, "Alright, that sounds like a plan."

I thought I did read somewhere that they'll still have a key wall in there and that "viewers won't be able to tell the difference" between the usage of the key wall and the projectors.

OCMs & Personalities / Wanted: Jim Cantore's voice
« on: April 22, 2008, 10:58:14 PM »
Jim is losing his voice tonight. I hope he feels better soon.

Why does it seem like people on the EE crew only get sick when someone is on vacation already? (Alexandra this time) Now they have to pull out the Carl/Kelly phone if Jim doesn't get better.

Sharon: "My friends."

That was unexpected. How many drinks do we score that as? :P

They usually do, but sometimes the BMI library is used instead.
