Here's the result of my more scathing letter to Chris Hoitsma:

Quote
Thank you for contacting The Weather Channel Interactive.

I will forward your email message, expressing your frustrations with the lack
of severe weather coverage due to the airing of our long-form programming to
our producers and programming directors. When there are widespread outbreaks
of inclement or severe weather, our producers are given the option of
pre-empting any scheduled programming features or going live to Dr. Forbes in
our storm center. Hopefully, they will choose the later option more often in
the future!

We are always happy to hear from our viewers and hope you will continue to
watch The Weather Channel for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Chris Hoitsma
Solutions Center/TWC
That whole "later" (sic, it's "latter", Chris) option thing doesn't make any sense in the context of what I complained about. The former would actually be the desired option.

Really? Well, apparently the baton has been passed, then.

I watched FO today and saw a new segment called "My Weather Outlook w/Jen Carfagno" in which she talks about a specific weather-related issue (today's was about the sun heating up cars and the danger of leaving children in cars). Does anyone know how new this segment is or if it just started?

Now with today's YWT comes the beginning of the HD Studio Countdown graphic that we'll likely see every single day until June 2 from now on.

They probably don't want it to look awkward when it's in HD. For HD, there are generally two different graphics strategies:

1) Like this - keeping the graphics smaller and having them terminate within the safe zone (ESPN is a good example of this)

2) Stretching the graphics across the entire screen (16:9) while keeping the area outside the 4:3 safe zone content-free

I'm guessing the width of the title bars will change based on the length of the text within them.

No, I still haven't slept since earlier. I should probably go do that.

Interesting. One of the ads for the new TWC|HD features the couple walking on the beach at sunset that has been prevalent in TWC openers and promos ever since the 2001 series of Weather Center openers. I guess they have that footage stored in HD?

The clip is in the topic about the new map title bars, in case you want to see it.

Jeff Morrow needs to change his shirt. It's a bit too green for that key wall.

Okay, here we go with that. It also contains Mike's "We're gonna do it."

BTW, to add to what Jim said earlier, at the start of A&B tonight...

Steph: What do you say we start with that rain?

Mike: We're gonna do it.

That would be hilarious if everyone at TWC picked up on the whole catchphrase thing.

Just saw that YWT promo... and yes, it looks amazing. I'm disappointed though, as it appears they're STILL using the same version of Skytracker. Can't we get a fancier radar, already? :(

Though I did notice of the past week or so, the interstate shields on Skytracker changed.

The radar on the first shot with Marshall at the wall looks new.

The same exact thing happened at the very same time the hour before. Sharon's great at repeating bloopers twice. ("Thanks for calling", anyone?)

I thought I understood a second ago, but now I'm realizing that this really doesn't make any sense.

2279
You'd like that, wouldn't you?

Yeah, it's rare. The video ***** will post that too, if you'd like.  :furious:
