OCMs & Personalities / Jen Carfagno - Your First Outlook co-anchor
« on: June 05, 2008, 07:08:47 AM »
I think we can say it safely now, Jen Carfagno has finally gotten an anchor spot after over 7 years on TWC. Jeff Morrow also made a surprise mid-week return to the show, revealing that there will be no separate Travel Analyst; Jen will continue with those duties, as well.

IMO, only having two OCMs on FO kind of hurts the format of the show. The show had a "bigger" feel to it with a team of three. Now with two anchors, it seems like just another show in many aspects, although it does still retain its special, unique features.

I'm sure Hillary Andrews would beg to differ with numbers 4 and 8. :P

I was just reviewing my recording of regular EE tonight, and when they were going into the 8:30 CT segment, Alexandra, not knowing she was on the air, could be heard saying, "We're going to have to ad-lib; it's not in the prompter."

2) Is it me, or is the text on the maps hard to read for you SDers? I just switched over to the SD feed, and especially on the projector maps, the text was really blurry.
Yeah, I noticed that. I had to strain my eyes to read the city names.

I've noticed that the letter boxing only appears when they show footage from outside the studio (see above images), and it disappears when the OCMs in the studio are shown. However the black on the top and bottom of the screen remains in both situations.

You're referring to pillar boxing (i.e., the bars on the left and right). The black bars on the top and bottom are letterboxes.

Two more things...

1) I might be imagining things, but the quality of the rebroadcast seems to not be true HD. It's close, but I think they might have taken away from the quality to preserve resources.

2) Is it me, or is the text on the maps hard to read for you SDers? I just switched over to the SD feed, and especially on the projector maps, the text was really blurry.

Look at the power plan. It speaks for itself, doesn't it?

Wait, they're letterboxing it for SD viewers? That's odd. Why can't they air it in 4:3 for SD viewers like they do when they're live?

You indeed are! Sweet!

I'm watching The Daily Show during this slot for the future now; it's a different nightly schedule after being used to watching The Daily Show at 10 PM CT and EEWC from 11-1 CT. Oh well, I'll get used to it.

At 11:01 CT, Rich more like Rich Dubbya Johnson

Sharon: Now with more on the severe weather and what we can expect, here's Rich.

Rich: Yeah, let's...uh...do that.

It's based on the old ones with the end of it being a box with an image in it, but the font is different, and it begins with HD-esque effects from the current packages with circles moving in between each other and stuff. It's better than the old ones, that's for sure, but they'll get tiring if they abuse them like they did at the end of the last era.

On another note, I noticed that the new Severe Weather opener has NWS bulletin text in the background, much like how the old WC openers had teleprompter script from Hurricane Wilma in the background.

It actually happened during one of the only shows I didn't record over the past three days. :(

Back this morning is Jen Carfagno's favorite Travel Radar with the enormous city names. There aren't any airport icons, though.

Today's FO is using the two-person shot for Cheryl alone at the desk sitting in the center. It's actually pretty cool.

They also just played an old "Weather 101" segment explaining derechos featuring Carl Parker as narrator and Dr. Forbes standing on that old mini-set that used to be used for The Weather Classroom as well as a few EE segments during the 03-05 era.

At 11:32 CT, Rich used Sharon's "Alrighty."
