Hey guys, I just saw an ad saying that Dave Koz is going to appear on Chicago's WGN Morning News tomorrow. For those of you not in Chicago, they will probably post a video up on their site or on YouTube, and I could also record it for you guys.

Few people know this, but Rich Johnson's success at The Weather Channel was actually the lucky result of his past failure. Prior to joining TWC, Rich actually worked as a computer programmer and wrote the short-lived WANG command-line operating system in 1982. However, his major failure from a usability standpoint came when Rich went to write the various prompts. For example, for a "Would you like to perform this action?" prompt, Rich deviated from the standard "y/n" response and instead gave the user the choices "Yeah, let's do that/No, let's not do that."

With such complicated prompts for the user to type in, the project was doomed to failure. Within months, Rich abandoned the project and was subsequently hired at TWC as a graphics technician, thus beginning his long-tenured career as a meteorologist there.

...it's a joke, obviously...

There's a reason for that - kind of an inside joke. I've never said it before, but look at the "six degrees of separation" of Rich's first and last names...

Lifestyles is more so the pre-recorded junk that airs at :12 and :42, they just used to package random weather stuff during the preceding studio segment.

Oooh, there was just a wideshot one as Sharon was standing at the projector wall finishing the Weekly Planner with Rich facing her while sitting at the desk.

Sharon: Now let's see what coming up with Rich.

(Rich turns away from Sharon and toward the front camera while we still see him talking from the ceiling camera.)

Rich: Ok, let's do so.

(We switch to frontal camera that Rich is facing, and Rich begins to say what's coming up.)

Carl actually wasn't in for Jim; I just looked at my recording, and Carl was actually behind the scenes tonight following the deadly tornado that killed four in an Iowa Boy Scout camp, so they brought Carl on the air for a few segments to talk about what he saw.

Yeah, Weekend Outlook is probably furthest down on the TWC **** list, so either that show or WC will probably be last.

Look at the terrible graphics work (that's not even done yet) for Weekend Outlook; that might be an indication.
