Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion
« on: October 02, 2012, 05:45:40 PM »
It appears my hometown and surrounding areas just went under a red flag warning for low humidity and winds. Just out of curiosity, how come TWC doesn't scroll this warning or show it on the weather bulletin page during LFs?  :dunno:

They show Red Flag Warnings on our IS and IS2, but not on Weatherscan here. Why they show it on the other two and not a full-blown weather channel I have no idea. I don't know why it wouldn't scroll for you anywhere. It usually runs for a couple minutes then goes away. It cycles for about half an hour of scrolling off and on. It doesn't show up on the bulletins page, though. (At least that's how it is on the IS2.)

Okay, I'm bumping this because I have to get this off my chest. After The Weather Channel talks about global warming for so long, they talk about how sea levels are going to rise... and they glorify people going and getting the ice that is melting to cause those problems. WTH are they even using the icebergs for? I can't get myself to watch it... or any of the other shows to be honest. They just don't seem interesting. I watched Pyros a couple times around July 4th, but it was kind of boring and had little to do with weather, if at all.

Another reason the OCMs should be wearing their suit jackets.
A white shirt and bright studio lights is not a good thing.

I think it looks really good!

I don't think this has been posted... I was doing a search to see if anything would change with Weather Central since our local CBS affiliate is setting it up for their HD weather graphics now. I found most of it interesting.

Is Day Planner using a new set, or have I been missing something? Regardless, they look like Smurfs when doing the weather due to all the blue lighting around them.  :hmm:

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: General IS2 Discussion
« on: September 24, 2012, 11:03:06 AM »
The satellite on the regional Satellite/Radar view on the IS2 is not updating. It doesn't move, or match up to the precip, and I'm pretty sure it is the same as it was on Sunday afternoon. Anyone else noticing this, or is it just me?

EDIT: It just started updating again.
EDIT 2: Well, this explains it...
"At 22Z yesterday GOES-13 (GOES-East) had an anomaly. In English, it means that it has stopped working. This is the satellite that covers the central and eastern U.S., as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Investigators have no clue why it happened, and no clue what is up with the satellite now. We'll update you on the situation as more information is received. That said, GOES-15 (GOES-West) hemispheric images are being produced, so now some central and eastern U.S. images have been restored, but looking from a rather oblique angle from the Pacific Ocean."

I've been watching TWC for a while now for the coverage of this storm. But I haven't heard them mention one thing about how 11 states in the east are now under some wind related advisories. TWC seems to see only the severe weather threat and flooding threat, yes I know, severe weather can include wind, but the wind I'm talking about is not caused by the severe weather.

EDIT: Finally, they did.

I heard it several times the area was under High Wind Watches, or something, Monday night.

This would also probably mean a new Weatherscan version...?  :dunno:

It's rare, but yeah... happens here in Topeka, too.

I know one thing, the icons will be the same across all platforms of TWC. From online, on-air, IS/IS2, and mobile platforms... they will all have the same icons for forecasts and current conditions.

Programming and Graphics / Re: Wake Up With Al

At least it won't look like it's broadcasting from a closet anymore.

Yeah, my biggest complaint about the show was the "I'm stuck in a closet!" look. Over to Al... who is three feet away from me...

I'll keep it short and not talk about the mets... I just came on to complain that they're still using the red lighting. I'm kind of over it. They're still using all the graphics they used the whole time before and during the storm. I'm pretty sure it's time to go back to more normal procedures.

On a different note... I wish they'd keep the mini radar and weather graphics on the left of the LDL permanently. Maybe add it in to the IS & IS2 for local radar or nationally for zoomed in areas where severe weather is occurring. Would be nice.

Okay, seriously... now they're back to the flashing 1 second fast-paced videos they used to edit up all the time that can give people seizures? Yay! :nono:

annddddd... /endrant

Sorry, bad night.

It would be nice if they did limited commercial interruption now! Making me turn the channel to other networks and it just made landfall. Yet they're barely showing the live shots they've paid a lot of money for. All those reporters out in the field they've been hyping for days now are barely being shown! They had more coverage last Friday than they do this evening while it's actually hitting. Friday they were using the squeeze backs for LOT8's to provide more coverage. Now it's commercial city. Ugh.  :nono:
Edit: I remember when they used to show the live shots more than they did current data. No LOT8's now, BTW.

Anybody else noticing the HD Intellistar LOT8's is staying on at 8pm ET/7pm CT for about 30 seconds and then it closes out area by area, then when it's all gone the local information is showing on the LDL with no background? So it's showing up over the national LDL. It's really weird.
