Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Weatherscan Topic

Apologies for the double post, but I just read that Xfinity is dropping Weatherscan from the rest of their systems towards the end of October. Can anybody verify this?

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Comcast HD Feed on SD Feed!
« on: August 30, 2017, 07:22:36 PM »
Your headend has an Intellistar 2 xD, which transmits in both HD and SD (letterboxed). It replaced the original IS in late 2015. I don't have Comcast, but I'm pretty sure it's like that with all of their headends. Hope this helps ;)

Anyone else notice the change to the Severe Weather Mode function on Weatherscan? It seems to be running a full local forecast product now. Haven't seen that since the redesign in '05.

Just tragic. My deepest sympathies to his friends and family. R.I.P.  :(

Brian, I cannot thank you enough for all of the hard work you've put into the emulator. I'm looking forward to being able to use this again.

apologies for the double post, but is anyone else having problems with NWS bulletins not showing up on Weatherscan? I'm under a Freeze Warning, and the Weather Bulletins slide hasn't shown up at all. This also happened when we had a Flood Watch a few days ago.

What's funny is that not even a few weeks ago, it was working fine - but yet other people were under tornado and severe t'storm warnings and nothing even happened.

I'm hoping this is just a bug, and not another update...

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

My interest in TWC after the buyout dwindled rather quickly after one of the anchors spent 5 minutes of airtime reading Twitter comments about how hot she was.
I'm pretty sure if that actually happened, she was more than likely mocking them, if anything.

A friend of mine reported this on his unit (don't know the ID # - it's out of the Xfinity Taylor headend): when the airport scroll runs on the black bar - for Detroit Metro Airport, "airport" is misspelled as "aiport."

Should this be reported to the STAR team? I mean, it's not a glaring error, to be honest.

Haven't posted mine in a while...I recently installed Ubuntu on this machine (HP Stream 11) last year. It runs beautifully - however I did have some hiccups with it at first, but other than that, I've had no complaints.

Figured I'd show Rick and Morty some love - I'd say it's one of the best shows I've watched in a long time... :)

I would hazard a guess that the radar feed on the sat/rad on Weatherscan wasn't even on purpose. TWC probably discontinued or replaced the old radar feed with a newer version and it just so happens that's the feed Weatherscan uses. If it was an intentional update they would have updated the precip legend. Weatherscan doesn't really get updates anymore which is another reason I think it wasn't an official update.

As the IS and IS2 utilize the same set of radar and satellite overlays, I would not be surprised if a change is coming soon for the IS2 which will include a radar/satellite display during the LF's, specifically if there isn't any precipitation that would be shown during the local radar product. My 2 cents..
I didn't know they both ran off of the same feed. I always assumed there were two separate feeds - one for Weatherscan (for all the extra segments/products it has), and another for the domestic IS/IS2 units.

I agree with your theory on a sat/rad loop being added to the IS2 - that would be a great (re)addition to the LF.

I'm glad they made the change. I didn't think they'd add precip type to it.

For some reason the legend still shows only rain. Hopefully they fix that soon.

This was last July, though, so yeah, the ratings from then are practically worthless.

I do agree with you that TWC could kill it off one day, but I wonder if it's more of a hassle shutting it down than it is to just keep it running...

We knew this was coming at some point, though. They system has been "frozen in time" since before the HD launch, if I remember correctly. Plus, WATT makes a lot of the WeatherScan product redundant (at least on the surface). Yes, I know there are products not featured or offered on WATT, and that certain viewers don't actually see weather "all the time" but it's close enough that they most likely have no qualms about phasing it out.
I agree, but Weatherscan is surprisingly popular in areas where it's still offered. I remember Evan saying on here that ratings for it on his cable system were above ESPN at one point. That's pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

I think Weatherscan will be around for a while, and TWC will probably keep the data feed and everything else for it running until the IS units start bursting into flames, or they go ahead and kill it off themselves - that would be my guess.

That's what it should've looked like from the beginning. This is a great refresh - however, I'm a little pissed that the LDL and clock are gone.
I also noticed that the weather segment still has some rendering/animation issues, and the narrations from the text-based to the 7-day tend to overlap and duck under each other, especially if one daypart runs long. I'm assuming that's because of how short the segment is; I could be wrong

I'm loving it so far. I moved exclusively over to Linux a year ago, and one of the things I missed was the 4000 sim (and Brian's weatherscan emulator too ;)). Good luck and I hope to find out where else you decide to take this project
