Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: November 30, 2008, 09:30:11 PM »
Which other 4 OCMs have left earlier this year besides Marshall and Jennifer Lopez? (I'm talking Jan 08 - present)?

Right. This isn't a happy-go-lucky occasion (like Marshall's retirement, for example)

His position is much more defined rather than all of the 'fluff' positions that were canned over the past week. I bet he was receiving too many emails from the general public and thats why TWC took his name off of the press website. Who knows.

Very intresting. The statement about 'revoking AMS certification from all mets who don't believe in global warming' that Dr. Cullen made about two years ago could've very well dug her own grave; or atleast that is how I feel after reading that article.

Thanks for finding all of these interesting tidbits of info, Gary. Very interesting, indeed.  B)

My CBS affiliate here in Atlanta does a "future radar" map, which is very similar to TruPoint, except much clearer, IMO. I don't know if it's displayed on their website, but for those who are interested, you can look around here: www.cbs46.com

Then again, people like P. Allen Smith probably freelance for TWC, and therefore aren't employed by the company itself. That's probably why we haven't heard much about their termination.

Damn, he's happy! :dunno:

Early retirement maybe?  :whistling:

I read the article in the AJC regarding this earlier today and wanted to stop by here to get the latest on the situation. I am quite transvexed and perturved to know that TWC would lay off OCM positions, especially when they are shorthanded as it is (compare TWC's OCM lineup now to how it was just 2 years ago, and you'll understand what I'm talking about). I wholly agree that we will probably begin seeing more solo shifts. I think that the termination of Dave is a shame. We always have good things to say about him here on the forums and you can almost automatically assume that TWC knows that his public image interpatation is recieved quite well. Seeing Cheryl go is a shame to -- these two are TWC long-timers and to have their jobs come to such an abrupt end is very sad. However, I am VERY GLAD to know that the Road Crew and Environmental segments of TWC have been eliminated. As I discussed in my post in the environmental unit termination thread, I feel as if both global warming and Road Crew nonsense add to the excess 'fluff' involved with TWC, which in excess, makes TWC's original stance very foggy. When they started in 1982, the mission (surely) was to provide current weather information and forecasts. It seems as if that mission has evolved over the years into making weather fun, relating it to everything, and focusing on global warming, etc. The TWC executives were smart to realize this and I'm glad they did away with this nonsense and realized that this 'fluff' should be the first thing to go if any cuts ever had to be made. Personally, because of this, I like the road TWC is begenning to head down due to the elimation of stuff like "hey man, weather'll bust 'ya kneecaps" (Jeff Mielcarz).  It finally seems as if TWC knows that all we want is current weather information and forecasts, just like in the old days! :D

Thanks to Gary and Tyler for keeping us so (professionally) informed. It's always nice to clear up information when it is foggy at the begenning.  :worship:

Programming and Graphics / Re: TWC considering going off air on Christmas
« on: November 21, 2008, 06:56:55 PM »
Excellent idea: I'm sure the OCM's would much rather enjoy being at home with their families and enjoying the holidays rather than working on air over Christmas Day. Not only does it ease this matter, but it saves money. Brilliant

This comes as no suprise. If I were part of the upper hierarchy management unit of TWC, I would have done the same exact thing to save money in these tough economic times. The environmental unit of TWC is almost like 'fluff,' and it takes away the focus from TWC's main mission which was in mind when it launched in 82. The purpose of TWC is to deliver current weather information and forecasts, not to in-depthly describe and disect the characteristics of environmental issues/problems. Smart move on TWC's part to do away with the environmental segment of the station. Now if only we could remove that damn Green Logo.

True...but it's a quite a possibility...just look at what TWC has done over the years by splitting up Nick and Kim, Jennifer and Carl, Vivian and Jeff...etc. etc.

GORGEOUS AUTOGRAPHED IMAGE!!! I have one from Hillary Andrews (got it almost a month before her contract expired in July 06)...I framed it and it's in my room.  Good stuff! I was going to send in one for Sarah Libby but she disappeared right before I sent in the letter. :( lol.

That's the best radar out there, IMO...used by news stations and networks all around, not to mention strictly meteorological work...  Once you customize it with layers, etc. it looks phenomenally professional and flawless. I highly recommend!

I'm pretty positive Bill will be the new anchor on YWT. He's been the prime fill-in for Marshall and Heather on YWT ever since the show began airing (IIRC someone correct me if I'm wrong)

However I bet that his weekend spot will be taken by someone who is already on the TWC (and who is at TWC now), and then that someone will be replaced by perhaps a new OCM, if that makes sense.  just my speculations...

I don't think TWC would bring in a new OCM for a replacement of a departing OCM, especially for a show like Your Weather Today.

Right, I'm sure they will replace Marshall with someone who currently works a diffrent slot, and that slot will most likely be replaced by a new face.
