TWC and your Cable Company / Re: DirecTV Dropping TWC
« on: January 11, 2014, 09:42:41 PM »
The channel that broadcasts non weather related reality shows 8pm-4am weekdays and 2pm-4:30am on weekend is now trying to spin that they provide public service.

Exactly, this is a management issue the OCMs should not be involved in just give us the forecasts please.

Kinda interesting timing 2 days before the TWC DTV contract is up they decide to go live to at least 11pm ET.

The new AM show starts in March.
"PASADENA, Calif.--Longtime Good Morning America weatherman is forecasting great things for his next gig on The Weather Channel. He'll anchor coverage in times of major weather stories and host a new three-hour morning show, airing from 7 to 10 a.m. ET, starting in March that will follow his friend and rival Al Roker's Wake Up with Al."

Now they added an annoying countdown clock to the upper right of the screen.
They also keep complaining about DTV possibly dropping them going to every break.
I'm waiting for them to add it as a slide on the LOT8s.

TWC put out a press release regarding DTV possibly dropping the channel.

“For DIRECTV to take us off their lineup would be deeply irresponsible to its customers who not only count on The Weather Channel on a day-to-day basis, but depend on us before, during and after severe weather events. As the most trusted source of weather news and information in America, The Weather Channel is there when it matters most. If we are not available to DIRECTV’s 20 million viewers, they will miss the accurate and life-saving information we have been providing for more than 30 years,” said David Kenny, chairman and CEO of The Weather Company."

"The Weather Channel is there when it matters most."

There are two instances that take exception to that,
May 15th 2013 due to meetings TWC made a decision to re run the tornado week shows instead of doing live weather shows 5pm-8pm, 10pm and 1am.
They got caught with tornadoes in Texas and were forced to go live at 8pm ET.

Then on May 18th, 2013 the storm the Tornado Hunt team were following had 3 tornadoes touch down between around 8:25pm and 9pm and TWC stayed on tape.

"If we are not available to DIRECTV’s 20 million viewers, they will miss the accurate and life-saving information we have been providing for more than 30 years".

TWC provides no weather coverage 2pm-4:30am on weekends so there is not much to miss then.
When there is severe weather I'm sure most people turn to their local broadcast channels for coverage.

Does anyone else have problems getting the forecast videos on weather.com to play?

I get the video player and no video for most of them like the storm watch,

They play fine on the iPhone.

Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion

I'm noticing my IS is about 5 seconds late to start the local forecast and the national plays and then it's 5 seconds late to end. Is this a known issue or should I report it in the WeatherStar section?

Comparing Evan's still from Dec. 22nd, https://twctodayforums.com/forums/programming/new-graphics-coming-to-twc/msg187453/#msg187453,
Noticed the storm mode background colors are a little darker compared to the last time it was used.

I do like the red and gray color theme branding for storm coverage.

I don't remember the music used during Katrina. Was the music as intense as the storm coverage song they are using since the graphics change?

Some of the TWC show production music must come from a music catalog service because I noticed the song used for the old "On The Radar" theme is being used by HSN currently and was used by FOX News for background on a taped segment.

TWC has gone red and gray for storm coverage.
That storm mode local forecast music track is back.
I really don't like that same song being used for every LOT8s.

I thought it might just be one of the live weather updates not using OCM's due to the holiday because they were using the live show music and the IS local LDL was still on screen.

Now that the graphics have been around for awhile the one thing I still don't like are the white maps with no terrain on them. TWC in my opinion went a bit to simple on the maps and I hope they make changes this year.
The updated graphics on Weather Nation are much better by simply having the terrain on the maps.

Here on FiOS the TWC HD National LDL clock is 1min behind real time.

They changed something in the lighting on Saturday and now there is a very bright yellowish light on the OCMs when they are at the green screen.
You can notice where the dress is a lighter green from the light being cast on it.

If the green screen is on the other side of the studio I don't get why this light reflection is happening.
