WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Weatherscan still showing Ski?
« on: May 11, 2011, 09:28:22 PM »
Hello STAR Team,

Someone from Harrisburg, PA wanted me to pass this along... as of May 3rd the Comcast Harrisburg Weatherscan was still showing the Ski segment when it shouldn't be anymore. All other Weatherscans in the area have had this disabled for the season since late March. I don't know if this was corrected since the 3rd, but if you could look into this for me I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

General Discussion / ABC to cancel daytime soap operas
« on: April 15, 2011, 04:27:02 PM »
ABC announced yesterday that it is cancelling All My Children and One Life to Live at the end of this year and is replacing it with two new shows called "The Chew" and "The Revolution." General Hospital will continue to run as the only soap opera on the network.

Welcome to the United States of Reality TV everyone!

Weatherscan Discussion / Weatherscan DISH network progress?
« on: April 14, 2011, 09:22:49 PM »
Do any of our TWC insiders know the progress on the Dish network Weatherscan TWC promised? I have heard nothing about it since last summer and am concerned TWC pulled the plug on this much needed project... thanks in advance.

General Discussion / TaigaNet trouble?
« on: April 13, 2011, 09:30:22 AM »
More than 50% of the time I try to log into the 4000 emulator msg boards, I keep getting these 403 forbidden or 504 errors saying that I am a malicious user, when I'm not. Does anyone know if Bill or someone on the admin team has an email I can reach so I can have them unban my IP addresses? If so please PM them to me, thanks.

PS:  Bye Taiganet, we'll miss you (not)

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Weatherscan audio distorted
« on: March 22, 2011, 08:19:20 AM »
I was in the Atlantic City, NJ area over the weekend and noticed that the Weatherscan there on Comcast (don't know the ID#) has very distorted audio coming out of only one side. Occasionally I'd hear clear audio from both sides but most of the time it's not the case. Can this be looked into?

Hi, I don't know if this was intentional or not, but when the product playlists changed early December, the Philadelphia IntelliStar on Fios (ID 27098) received the upgrade, and therefore no longer uses the custom product playlists that Verizon requested a long time ago. The playlists included showing less of the CC and regional screen and more of the 8-cities and metro maps, since this Verizon headend serves a very large area, and also the use of both a moon phase and temperature almanac. Can this be looked into? Thanks.

Who here thinks the NWS should bring back the winter weather warnings they dropped after 2007-08? This includes Heavy Snow Warnings, Snow Advisories, Blowing Snow Advisories, etc.

I really think they should, because they are more specific and give people a better idea of what to expect. A winter storm warning is too generalized and could mean anything, like snow, sleet, freezing rain, or ice. Blowing snow advisories should especially be brought back as you can experience blowing snow even when not a winter storm is present. I know sometimes you can see a little bit of ice during a snow storm, but most of the time, when the NWS calls for just snow, you get just snow most of the time (at least during the storm).

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this...

Everything Else TWC / TWC now an LLC
« on: January 01, 2011, 11:18:24 PM »
Apparently TWC went from being an incorporation to a limited liability company, per the station ID below. I guess this is what happens to companies when they become subsidiaries of another company?

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Radar issues and concerns
« on: December 02, 2010, 10:08:00 PM »
Hello,

This is most likely a nationwide issue here as I've noticed it with other STARs. On the one minute flavors used at the bottom of the hour and at 7:48 on Your Weather Today, the local radar almost never displays anymore even when there's precipitation in the area. This has been happening for about a month or so now. In addition, I know on the one minute flavors the radars would never display (not even the regional radar) when there wasn't precipitation in the area and only a satellite image was shown, but now the regional radar displays no matter what. This occurance seems to happen on most STARs other than select few, such as the west coast ones. Could both of these be looked into with possible changes? Thanks in advance.

TWC and your Cable Company / Using a TiVo as an alternative to Comcast DTA
« on: November 21, 2010, 01:25:31 PM »
In the coming weeks Comcast will be phasing out analog cable here. Coincidentally, I was considering to get a TiVo for Christmas, and I need to know whether or not a DTA is still needed since a TiVo is a digital video recorder. This would make it easier for me to record rather than just using my computer's tuner all the time, especially if I want to timer record future shows. Thanks for any help.

« on: October 15, 2010, 09:56:38 AM »
For no reason I was looking at TWC's press room, and I noticed Geoffrey Darby's name is no longer listed on the executive team page. Is he no longer at TWC?
