According to this article, AMHQ will remain but without Sam and will be extended to 5AM ET with Stephanie as one of the hosts. The article also says that TWC invested a lot of money producing reality shows which may explain why they are losing money.

"The remainder of this memo covers the major changes we are making at The Weather Channel:
Migrate Away from Non-Weather Original Programming.
Refocus Entire Morning to Only Weather.
Prioritize Weather Expertise Over Production.
Market and Program to our Loyal Core Audience.
Streamline HR, Finance, and Communications Support"

Here is some good news:

"We will continue to invest in finding creative ways to explain the weather, but we will no longer greenlight any long-form shows. Over the next year, we expect to add more live hours back to our schedule after airing some great shows currently in development"

We are excited to welcome Stephanie Abrams back to Atlanta to be a key part of this new integrated morning team.

Good to see Stephanie remain at TWC and moving back to Atlanta.

Just wow. I have no clue what will happen to TWC. It's future is very uncertain. I smell another relaunch coming. I surely do hope they will restore live weather programming that were cut in the past 2 years.

About 50 of the channel's 1,400 employees will be leaving.

Will any on-air personnel be leaving?

"Over the next several months, you will see us further simplify our branding across all dayparts," Shull said in his internal memo.

WCL replacing WUWA & AMHQ?

The company is also prioritizing a localized weather, traffic and news channel it is calling Local Now.

Weatherscan replacement?

I  don't see anything different yet on the SD feed. What about the HD feed? I'm not home to check.

No changes yet to the IS2. Still the same.

Programming and Graphics / Re: Cancelled: Wake Up With Al
« on: September 02, 2015, 10:12:53 AM »
Really?  Wow...I would have never pictured WUWA getting axed, at least not unless Roker decided to quit.  I usually avoid TWC in the mornings so I do not know whether to cheer or shrug shoulders wondering what this means for the network down the road.  They would not possibly air long form programs at 6am...would they?

They could air reality shows at 5AM and extend AMHQ to 6AM ET (like the weekend schedule). I could see that happening.

http://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/weather-channel-cancels-al-rokers-wake-up-with-al/271007

"The Weather Channel has decided to cancel its early morning show, Wake Up With Al, after six years. Al Roker‘s show will have its last airing later this month, according to several sources familiar with the network’s plans. The show’s New York-based production team was told of the decision Monday."

I wonder what will happen to Stephanie Abrams. She may reunite with Bettes on his new show. It is still unknown what will replace WUWA but I will not be surprised if AMHQ gets extended.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Vivian Brown DONE at TWC
« on: September 01, 2015, 03:52:35 PM »
Another great veteran OCM likely let go by TWC. Sadly, I am not surprised at this. This leaves Jim Cantore & Mike Seidel as the remaining pre-1999 OCMs. I haven't seen Seidel on air in a while. I wonder if he's next. I wish Vivian good luck in the future.

http://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/vivian-brown-makes-emotional-exit-from-weather-channel/270982

"The Weather Channel told TVNewser “Vivian Brown is indeed leaving The Weather Channel. We are grateful for her many contributions during almost 30 years with the network. She is a part of the Weather family, and we wish her all the best.”"

Right now, TWC is preempting reality programming to cover TS Erika and other weather events. My guide said they will be on until 12AM ET but I'm not sure if they will since the storm died off. But it still good to see live weather programming during the weekend.

These forecast videos are so much better and informative than the ones on TV.

Now we know why TWC will continue to show reality shows instead of weather:

http://www.theweathercompany.com/newsroom/2015/08/04/season-two-finale-popular-survival-series-fat-guys-woods

"Season Two Finale of Popular Survival Series, “Fat Guys in the Woods,” Reaches 1.5 Million Viewers on The Weather Channel"

Wow, that's more viewers than AMHQ and WUWA combined.

http://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/comcasts-cuts-value-of-investment-in-weather-channel/268287

"Comcast has taken a $252 million impairment charge on its investment in the Weather Channel. The Wall Street Journal reports Comcast made a quarterly regulatory filing Thursday, valuing its stake in the Weather Channel at $86 million–down from $336 million at the end of 2014.

Moody’s downgraded the company’s debt in April, with Weather Channel facing growing questions about its viability as an independent cable channel. Over the last four years, the channel has lost more than 11 percent of its subscriber base, and was dropped in March from Verizon’s FiOS service."

Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion
« on: July 11, 2015, 06:51:01 PM »
(So much wasted space on the widescreen Locals.)

I agree.  You'd think, almost two years later, they'd have found something to occupy that space by now other than occasional ads or promos for upcoming programs.  Usually, though, it's just an extended part of the photo with no useful information in there at all.

Agree as well, The sidebar is so useless especially on WCL when the rundown is replaced by "Top Stories". TWC should of have the IS2 place a small doppler radar where the local product rundown use to be

I've noticed that the background of the news/weather ticker has changed from black to blue matching the color of the LDL.

EDIT: The color has been reverted back to black as of 4PM ET.
