Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Weatherscan Topic
« on: January 22, 2022, 11:08:37 PM »
Even though I’m in college now 100 miles away, I still like to keep up with what’s going on with the cable system at home and I saw their meeting agenda a couple of days ago included a “Weather Channel Renewal” section and assumed that any renewal of their TWC affiliation agreement would include the forced removal of Weatherscan. This is apparently not the case. The agreement (negotiated through the NCTC) actually extends carriage of both TWC and Weatherscan from the original cut-off date of February 28, 2019 to February 28, 2022. Also, by entering this agreement a year early, allows them to save money on buying the channels wholesale. Seems like my theory is correct in that TWC isn’t forcing anything and they’re just letting cable companies decide when to get rid of it based on viewership numbers, bandwidth concerns, overhead costs, etc. This may change in the future, but it does appear Weatherscan will live in Frankfort for a few more years.
It seems Blue Ridge is under the same agreement, TWC is up for renegotiation next month for us as well. I'll be interested to see if Weatherscan actually lives on any longer.

Everything Else TWC / Re: So much for less longform this year
« on: November 20, 2020, 07:24:07 PM »
Storm stories has been airing since last summer at this point, they premiered a few weeks before that graphics refresh they did. It's not bad, and it's certainly better than watching shows about towing in Canada and plane crashes. I wish they did more weather related longform than what they do now.

Don't get me wrong, I dislike longform as much as the next person but they gotta keep that income for the network coming in somehow.

You can use the pages from my ex-active, yet somewhat still active, wiki site... The Weather Channel Wiki. I gave up on it but any TWC-related content you find, you can take it. No questions asked.
Thanks man! Appreciate it :) I'll try and put some of that to good use.

Oh cool someone made this wiki a thing! Are playlists of local forecasts allowed too on the wiki?
Yup! It's something directly related to TWC so that's completely fine

Hi everyone! I've got a personal project that I've started on that I think would be useful to the community. I'd like to introduce TWC Archive!

A lot of the information and history of TWC is scattered all over the place. Some of it lives here, a fair amount was removed from Wikipedia because it didn't meet the scope of the site, some of it just lives on random websites and YouTube videos just waiting to be discovered.

My goal is to gather that information in one place and preserve it. I'd love the help to make this thrive, and exist along side sites like TWC Classics and TWC Today. Anyone can join to contribute to the wiki. Right now at launch though, it is quite bare and needs content.

Join us at TWC Archive and help preserve TWC history today at https://www.twcarchive.com

The Weatherscan unit here on Blue Ridge got a new logo for the first time since early 2015 as of the 20th. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the placement of it though

General Discussion / Re: Corona Virus

My university along with the rest of the PASSHE universities got shut down and moved to online only classes for the rest of the semester. While I might not like online classes, I support the decision since the health of the students/teachers/operations staff and the community in general are more important at this time.

Considering that those aren't done by the IS2, I'd estimate chances of that happening are a big 0.

So sad to hear about him, all of my condolences go out to his family. He will definitely be missed, I can say personally that his videos were a good chunk of my inspiration for getting into this community.

Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Any WeatherScan units still in operation?
« on: March 20, 2019, 11:52:14 PM »
Blue Ridge (central/east central PA) and Grande Communications (Texas) still have some units. There's also Frankfort Plant Board's Weatherscan (ehatt600 on youtube uploads videos regularly), and I believe Mediacom has a few scattered around the country.
Can confirm that the Mount Pocono unit on Blue Ridge Communications is still active.
