General Discussion / Chrome Startup Error
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:02:02 PM »
It's not too terribly significant since I'm always able to click cancel, but 2 times out of 3 when I open Chrome on my desktop, this pops up:

Any ideas what it means?

General Weather Chat / Mid-June 2010 Midwest Severe Weather
« on: June 17, 2010, 08:24:15 PM »
It has been a looong time since I have seen this many tornado warnings all at once in this part of the country. A very active evening is still in store for the upper midwest, and it is likely to make its way as far east as my area and Detroit tomorrow into tomorrow night.

General Discussion / Comcast cutting into the Local Forecasts
« on: April 23, 2010, 06:53:14 PM »
Just before the 6:49 LF there, I saw two 30 second mesothelioma ads... but Comcast also inserts an ad for a local car dealership. That ad goes out... and it cuts right to the last loop of the local radar. Comcast normally has an issue cutting 2 or 3 seconds into the LF intros or other promos... but this is getting ridiculous. Now several times a day I see it happen. Anyone else noticing it?

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Spiders?
« on: March 28, 2010, 08:45:15 PM »
What is up with this whole "spiders" thing? Are they just some random programs that scope out the forums? I've noticed the "Twiceler" spider has been staring at my profile for the past ten minutes.

General Weather Chat / Summer 2010 Discussion
« on: March 27, 2010, 09:34:32 AM »
Since I didn't see this anywhere else, I thought it would be an interesting idea to discuss the upcoming weather this summer.
I definitely see a warmer and drier summer this go around for the midwest. Just check out some of my totals here in Lansing:
Precipitation/Snowfall totals this past winter season (in that order)...
November: 0.99/T, Avg 2.66/5.1
December: 1.52/11.4, Avg 2.17/13.2
January: 0.86/9.4, Avg 1.61/14.0
February: 1.35/20.6, Avg 1.45/10.6
March (to date): 0.44/1.2, Avg 1.97/7.9
Season total: 5.16/42.6, Avg 9.86/50.8

So, here's the breakdown. This winter was below normal in both precipitation and snowfall, with above average temperatures as well. I was incredibly disappointed with November, since we usually see our first measurable snow before the end of that month. However, when December came around, I truly thought that we may swim when it comes to average snowfall, and not be too far below normal. Essentially, we did see near average snow in Lansing this past winter, and granted, it was not nearly as far below average as it was the previous El Nino season... 2006-2007. But frankly, had February not been so lucky for me, we definitely would have sunk. Nonetheless, check out March's precipitation total. I've noticed how considerably dry it has been lately, and we have not seen much of any rain (we have seen some, but it has obviously been quite light). Case and point, my thought process is this:
  • Since this past winter has been drier than normal, both in terms of precip and snow...
  • Since this past winter has been warmer than normal
I see a warmer and drier summer coming ahead for those of us in the midwest, at least. Another factor to consider is the sunspot activity. While there really has not been a direct correlation to be proven, generally when you see a solar maximum (period of high levels of sunspots)... you tend to have more frequent, more intense, and longer lasting heat waves. We have been in a solar minimum the past few years, and we're now coming out of it. That being said, I don't believe this will be an all time record warm summer... but I do see it being much warmer and drier than the previous two summers.

Here's the current drought monitor:

If our current precipitation pattern continues, I expect that area of persistent drought up towards northern Wisconsin and the south central portion of the UP to expand. We have a few showers in the forecast for tonite and tomorrow, however, we are not likely to see enough to take March's total over an inch. Start conversing! :P

General Discussion / Weird laptop issues... thoughts?
« on: March 15, 2010, 04:03:04 PM »
Among the nearly countless other issues I've had with my laptop (that I bought last June), I'm now having some weirder ones. Last week, my computer had the notification (on the window that appears when you click on the clock) telling me that the time change was coming up and that the computer would change the time automatically. Come the time change, the computer didn't change... so I had to manually do it myself. It resets every time I restart, shut down, or close the lid to, my computer. I have two clocks on my sidebar... one displaying Eastern Time and another showing Central. But when I updated the computer's time, they both showed the same time. I also have two weather apps (one for Lansing and another for Mason) on it, in addition to stocks. But neither the stocks or weather apps are working (tells me info can't be displayed). Also, some (but not all) of my settings in Google Chrome have been mysteriously reset (homepage, amount on the top).

But this is the least of things. I can't upload anything on the internet at all. This was why I mentioned having trouble uploading material to youtube. Mysteriously, I can't upload any files on TWCT either. I can't seem to download flash either. My desktop works fine. Any ideas as to what could be happening?

Once again, Intellistar 22840 serving the Lansing area along and west of 127 had video feed issues. During the last 20 seconds of the 4:28 PM EST LF, the music became spotty and then stopped. Following the local forecast, a scrambled picture of the satellite local forecast then faded to black. This lasted for a little less than 5 minutes, and then a scrambled video feed once again returned. After about 30 seconds, the video was fine and the LDL cued not much later. I made a post yesterday about how it happened yesterday, and I remember seeing it also happen on 22842 over in Haslett/East Lansing back on Tuesday. Anyone know what could be the cause of this... happening almost exactly the same way, at exactly the same time every day?

General Discussion / Great Commercials

You know, there are so many commercials out there that we loathe, and either press the mute button or change the channel. But honestly, there has to be at least a couple commercials out there you like! I thought I should start this thread for that very reason. A few commercials I really like include...

Back in July, TWC tested out showing the 8 city guesses on the one minute local forecast. I didn't seem to save any recordings of it. Did anyone else? I would really like to see it, thanks

General Discussion / TV Tuner Issues... new one to recommend?
« on: December 28, 2009, 05:32:12 PM »
I am having a boatload of issues with my laptop's HP TV tuner. It worked perfectly for me back in July, but even with a new one now and even a different hard drive than what I first had, the recordings always have a major issue with skipping, and they keep cutting out early. I want to look into getting a different one, but all that there seems to be out there is Hauppauge... and I can't ever get those to work.

Anyone know of a good TV tuner, that no matter where I buy it, I can return it for a full refund if it does not work? I'd appreciate it
