General Discussion / Anyone have Sirius/XM radio?
« on: August 16, 2010, 07:55:41 PM »
I'm currently on a free trial for Sirius Internet Radio. I'm enjoying the overwhelming variety of stations. I'm inclined to register, but it is $12.95 per month. I'm not going to buy any equipment; I'll just subscribe to the online radio. Is it worth it if I will continue listening to Pandora and my iTunes library?

General Discussion / New weather/traffic channel
« on: June 22, 2010, 03:04:56 PM »
I was surfing channels, and I found something strange. It's called TTV, and it's a "ghetto weatherscan", if you will. It has sports headlines, weather conditions, and updates on the BP oil spill news headlines. There is no music and the production values are that of a looping PowerPoint presentation or a WeatherSTAR XL had it existed in the early 1990s.

Has anyone seen this, or is this a local thing? I looked online, and I saw absolutely nothing about it.

My local IntelliSTAR (ID either 26679 or 26779) has been missing in action. I see a national LDL and I'm seeing the satellite LF. The STAR went down sometime midweek last week. I'm sorry I can't tell a more precise time. Thank you in advance.

General Discussion / Anyone here use Pandora?
« on: October 13, 2009, 11:28:17 PM »
I do, and it's the perfect site to get to know new artists by listening to those you like. I've been using it for a month, and I love it. If you have it, what music do you have on your Pandora stations?

Along with a dozen of alternative stations, I have one station solely for TWC music. Artists like Ryan Farish and Chris Geith pop in often.

General Weather Chat / Tsunami Bulletin
« on: September 29, 2009, 07:16:28 PM »
A magnitude-8 earthquake in Pacific could give way to a tsunami. On TWC, there was a bulletin for my area, but it doesn't seem like it is a major emergency. Here is a link to a Seattle Times article.

Since 2005 or so, TWC phased out the hourly schedule in favor of showing the top stories at the top of the hour, and the rest of the hour being fair game, save for the Weekly Planner at 20 after the hour. Why did TWC do so? I liked having coast-to-coast weather at the top, then travel/lifestyles at 10  and 40 after, weekly planner at 20 after, coast-to-coast at half-past the hour, and Storm Watch/Tropical Update at 50 past.

Was it because TWC though the hourly schedule got repetitive quickly?

Everything Else TWC / An off-season hurricane question
« on: May 06, 2009, 01:48:27 AM »
I was revisiting clips from TWC's coverage of Hurricane Ike, and I notice the storm alert music got more intense (faster tempo etc) when the storm approached landfall and after it made landfall. Anyone notice it too?

OCMs & Personalities / Interesting Question
« on: February 19, 2009, 10:59:46 PM »
Marshall Seese retiring sooner or later was inevitable. He was a TWC meteorologist for many years, and the time was right for him to retire. Had he not retired, would he have survived the massive layoffs? Most of the OCM's who were laid off had a decent tenure, so Marshall would've been a target.

I say he might likely have been laid off if he did not choose to retire in November.

General Discussion / A blog that misses the mark

I cringe at the writing of this blog. On the side, the writer wanted you to rate the blog, and the results are less than pretty. Check it out. http://bobbiocity.blogspot.com/

General Discussion / Happy New Year, all!
« on: December 31, 2008, 09:37:19 PM »
I hope 2008 turned out to be a good year for all of you. I'm sending best wishes for a happy new year. I'm looking forward to 2009. Obama as president is a new ray of hope to me. Are you looking forward to the changes 2009 brings?

General Discussion / A question about radio/TV ads...
« on: December 23, 2008, 01:21:44 PM »
for the ads that ask you to call an 800 number, do they really need to repeat their number so many times? There is a series of ad scams that repeat the  :censored:ing number at least eight times... in a 30-second spot. Commercials like these are part of the reason why I rarely ever watch TV during the day.

Will they continue their Stormwatch segment or have another "filler" segment? I can't wait to see the Storm Watch graphics should they continue the segment.

Programming and Graphics / I realized something.
« on: November 22, 2008, 01:03:56 AM »
I caught a couple of minutes of 20/20 tonight, and I heard the same music used for some segments on EE. Could it be that TWC had to buy the rights to play that music or is a free use agreement?

Programming and Graphics / I can't hold back any longer
« on: November 12, 2008, 09:38:53 PM »
Why is TWC is just like every network that they loved to overrun their below-decent programming. There is no reason for two hours during the day to be taken by It Could Happen Tomorrow. Who wants to watch those shows? I have no problem with one hour in the weeknights with long-form programming, but not the same When Weather Changed History episode!!!

TWC, get your head back in the game and cut down on long-form programs!

You can post up to two choices. Who do you think make the perfect team or which pair do you enjoy watching?
