"Weather Channel wants you to keep your head in the clouds on Election Day"

The station hopes to draw Americans away from yammering political pundits and potentially terrifying election results by broadcasting a nine-hour marathon of "the most beautiful, awe-inspiring, and calming weather video and scenery ever caught on tape," it said in a press release Tuesday.

This should be ... interesting.

Hurricane Central / Tropical Storm Dolly
« on: September 01, 2014, 05:22:16 PM »
May not even be worth mentioning, but a new tropical depression has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and will push westward over the next couple of days.  It's expected to strengthen, however, and if it does, it will become Dolly.  We'll see...

Hurricane Central / Hurricane Cristobal
« on: August 24, 2014, 01:21:04 PM »
45-mph Tropical Storm Cristobal is now the third named storm in the Atlantic.  This storm could become the season's third hurricane by Wednesday morning (which means all three named storms so far would have become hurricanes at some point during their life cycle).  However, based on the latest models and official NHC projected path, this storm should NOT pose doom and gloom to the US.

Hurricane Central / Hurricane Iselle
« on: August 04, 2014, 01:56:47 PM »
Iselle in the Eastern Pacific is now a MAJOR Cat 4 hurricane with max sustained winds of 140 mph.  Very pretty storm, but Hawaii is in trouble and needs to start preparing for this.  The "good" news is that it should weaken to a tropical storm before striking the islands.

Hurricane Central / Hurricane Arthur
« on: June 30, 2014, 11:20:33 PM »
The Atlantic is alive!  Our first tropical depression has formed.  Based on the projected path, the system could become a Tropical Storm very soon and would be named Arthur.  The system may also skim the East Coast, so we'll have to watch out for this over the next few days.

General Weather Chat / Farmers' Almanac Winter 2013-2014 Outlook
« on: August 25, 2013, 10:33:51 PM »
Well, we know its accuracy has been questionable in the past, but here is what Farmers' Almanac is predicting for the upcoming winter.  Looks like a cold one for literally all of us.  Therefore, it will be interesting to see how things play out.  I, for one, am not looking forward to a repeat of last year.

General Discussion / American Airlines Unveils New Livery and Logo
« on: January 17, 2013, 11:54:44 AM »
Since I'm somewhat of a fanatic over airline liveries, especially American, since it is the main airline I fly, I figured I would post this.  American Airlines just introduced a new logo and livery to the public today (first time since 1968).  What do you all think of it?  The new "eagle" may take some time getting used to.  I think the tail would look better with stars instead of lines in the blue section, but as I saw on some Facebook posts, that resemble too much of Colgan Air.  A big change is that "AA" is no longer present anywhere, meaning the merger with US Airways might be taking place?

Here's the YouTube video from American explaining their change:

Everything Else TWC / New weather.com design: April 2012
« on: April 28, 2012, 07:25:04 PM »
Well guys, weather.com has changed again.   It amazes me how they now feel they have to change the design every year.

But this is a HUGE change!!! :o  Everything looks different now...even the local weather pages!  I don't like it; everything looks too cluttered.  What do you guys think?

General Weather Chat / What is Your Christmas Day "Dream" Weather?
« on: December 25, 2011, 02:17:10 PM »
I don't think there's ever been a topic about this, and I'd be interested to hear what you all think.  For most of us, it's probably SNOW: several feet!  I personally would prefer sunny skies with snow already on the ground, and a high of around 50 degrees (yes, the snow would begin melting).  On the contrary, my parents actually said sunny and 70 degrees would be the weather that would brighten their Christmas.  So there may be many conflicting opinions out there.  What's yours?

General Weather Chat / NOAA Releases 2011-2012 Winter Outlook
« on: October 21, 2011, 12:47:26 PM »
As many of you have probably seen, NOAA has released its outlook for the winter of 2011-2012. In contrast to what the Farmer's Almanac predicted, this outlook clearly displays a La Niņa winter for the south.

Hurricane Central / Hurricane Jova
« on: October 10, 2011, 03:09:23 PM »
I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned sooner, but Major Hurricane Jova (in the eastern Pacific) is headed toward Mexico. I'm not sure if the current projected path may change to show Jova only brushing the west coast of Mexico or not. I wonder if any of the remnants may bring more wet weather to Texas.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Tabs and Mobile Layout Questions
« on: September 10, 2011, 06:59:25 PM »
TABS
Before a forum upgrade, we had tabs that said "Today" and "Classics," which allowed us to easily navigate to the home page of each site. I do not see these when I am logged in, however I do see them when I log out. Don't know what the issue is here, but it would be nice to see these brought back, if possible.

MOBILE LAYOUT
Are the forums no longer available in "mobile layout" (i.e. for the iPhone) anymore? I remember this being an option under "Look and Layout," but it is no longer there.

Thank you! :)

Happy Independence Day everyone!!! :thrilled: I hope all of you have a very safe and fun holiday, wherever you may be celebrating. :)

Hurricane Central / Tropical Storm Arlene
« on: June 28, 2011, 08:41:58 PM »
Tropical Storm Arlene is the first named storm of the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season. As of 8 PM EDT, winds are sustained at 40 mph, the pressure is 1003 mb, and the storm is moving WNW at 7 mph. It looks like this storm could bring some rain to drought-stricken south Texas, although the center of the storm is expected to stay south in Mexico.

Weatherscan Discussion / Re: Weatherscan DISH network progress?

Weatherscan 16:9 SD?

Kind of off-topic, but is this possible? :dunno: I'm not trying to be critical because I honestly have no idea. 16:9 in SD...
