General Weather Chat / As the world warms
« on: December 31, 2023, 09:44:49 PM »
China, the world's worst polluter BY FAR, is in the midst of a major cold snap.

Maybe we're looking at all of this CO2 business the wrong way?   :rofl2:

General Discussion / Switzerland to ban electric cars?
« on: December 24, 2022, 08:31:26 PM »
If the energy crisis gets any worse.

Electricity is a valuable commodity, and there is not enough of it right now.  IMHO, Switzerland is STUPID for phasing out its nuclear plants... they should be building MORE of them.  We know that these electric vehicles require a ton of electricity to recharge them.

Forcing everybody into an EV before upgrading the power grid is worse than putting the cart in front of the horse, and will ultimately lead to disaster.  Of course, some people want that.

General Discussion / You must buy one but you can't charge it
« on: September 03, 2022, 08:18:39 PM »
This sounds like a joke.

Currently, only 1.6% of California's 30 million vehicles are electric.  1.6 percent, and the grid CAN'T EVEN HANDLE THAT!

It's been estimated that the State would have to add 17 Gigawatts of electricity to accommodate 30 million EVs, and if you seriously think that you can get those 17 GW with windmills and solar cells, you need to face reality.  For a state currently facing an energy crisis, this EV mandate is like pouring gasoline on an open fire so to speak.

Are the people running that state
A. Clueless
B. Stupid
or
C. Deliberately trying to destroy the fifth largest economy in the world

All this ''green'' or ''renewable'' energy can complement what we have now and REDUCE our usage of ''fossil fuels'', but they cannot REPLACE traditional energy sources.  Europe is currently finding this out the hard way.

Back in November, tides in Venice pushed water levels to "50 year highs."  Two months later, things are MUCH different.

General Discussion / NYC Climate March: The Aftermath
« on: September 23, 2019, 08:56:59 PM »
Some of these pictures are absolutely horrifying.  And the litterbugs who created this mess actually want us to believe that they care about the planet!

I completely understand that NYC may be partially responsible for this.  I have no idea how many trash recepticles there are in that area.

One person at least made an attempt to stuff their sign into a recycling bin, but most didn't; and as far as I'm concerned, there is NO excuse for that (other than pure laziness).  If there is no place for you to dispose of your sign, take it home with you and dispose of it there... don't just leave it on the ground for somebody else to deal with it.  Too bad they can't fine every one of these LOSERS for littering.

These people talk the talk, but they obviously don't walk the walk.  Actions speak MUCH louder than words.

So much for clearing up the Planet!

General Discussion / Gale-Farce Winds
« on: September 15, 2018, 09:12:47 PM »
I'm not 100% sure what to make of this video.  This isn't necessarily a shot at TWC per se, because EVERY media outlet is guilty of this (some more than others).

There is a LOT of wisdom in what Mike Rowe says here.  Don't automatically believe ANYTHING you hear or read.  If somebody isn't embellishing a situation for ratings, they may be trying to propagandize an unsuspecting public.

General Weather Chat / Harry Volkman 1926-2015
« on: August 22, 2015, 09:17:54 PM »
IIRC, TWC did a segment on Harry about a year ago.  When Harry was working in Tulsa back in the 50s, the FCC wouldn't let TV Meteorologists report on tornadoes as they were happening.  Knowing that stupid rules were made to be broken, Harry became the first to report on one.  His actions that day may have saved a countless number of lives.  He last worked for WFLD in Chicago in the early 2000s.

Rest in Peace, Harry
