Local Forecast / YouTube Clips
« on: July 22, 2021, 09:35:20 PM »
Hey Guys,
1st you have to know that I am sincerely honored and grateful that folks have enjoyed my music on The Weather Channel but, please understand Songwriters get paid less than a penny for YouTube streams and I’m not get paid at all.

You see, YouTube AI doesn't recognize my music that's being used in the videos that have been posted over the years as YouTube clips from the Weather Channel broadcasts, because my song title isn't included in that person's video clip title. Most are including my information only as a part of their description underneath the video clip from The Weather Channel (thank you for that) but, they did not include it as a part of the title on YouTube...so YouTube doesn't pick it up.

Actually need a way to ask everyone with my music in their clips to please, please edit their video attributions. Don’t want them to take them down because then I won’t be paid for the number of plays they have accumulated to date.  Just need the titles edited.

Will you please ask any folks whom you may know who have vid clips from The Weather Channel which happen to use my music to PLEASE edit your YouTube titles to include my name and song title too?

Can you think of a way to get this request out to others?

Thank you again for all your support,
~Jeanne Ricks

TWC Artist Chat / Smooth Jazz Returns to the format!
« on: April 20, 2016, 03:03:27 PM »
Hey Guys,
Spoke with Brian Picard and was told that YES ~ Smooth Jazz has returned and is being used at least one day a week ~ SO FAR!

Thank you so much for your support in this effort!  You guys, I'm certain, have been a big part of their decision. :club:

Now please reach out to them and let them know how happy you are about their very wise decision.  Hopefully, the public response will be high and they will add a few more days fo Smooth Jazz airplay.

The guy doing the programming is Jeremy.Jones@weathergroup.com  I just emailed him and asked if he might allow me to submit some music for this new roll-out. Hoping he'll agree.

Thank you again for all of your support!

~Jeanne Ricks

Thought I'd post a little update on the new 'Network Weather Channel'.  They still haven't provided me with the style examples that they promised so that I can get started on just creating some sample ideas for music direction for them.  I was set to throw in the towel, but made one last phone call today.   :club:

The woman who answered identified herself as being with 'Smith Publishing' which is the parent company. I jokingly told her that from the lack of response I was getting, I was beginning to think they didn't exist. But she recognized my name and said, 'Oh you're the music lady! They want to talk with you but, they're just not ready yet.'

Believe it or not, I took that as a very good sign.  I'm going to hang in there.  I know it would be a blast to be the Musical Director for them and keep their musical identity intact.

Can't thank you all enough for your support.

Any chance you get on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/networkweatherchannel
to mention something positive about  the rumor that Jeanne Ricks is under consideration to be hired as Musical Director - or even just how much you're looking forward to Smooth Jazz incorporated into their programming ~ I'd much appreciated it!

Hey also, I just dropped a new single in anticipation of the new CD that I'll drop in June.

I'll let you know if anything new shakes out

All the best,

So, I've got a bit of an update.  Had a half hour conversation with the Gatekeeper at Network Weather Channel.  His name is Randy Davies and he's been working with them in the PR/Marketing end of things, but for now he's the only point of contact.  The founders actually own a few Newspapers ~ this is their only venture into electronic media.  He's been with them for over 15 years.

Your voices have definitely been heard.  He said point blank that based on what they've heard from fans of The Weather Channel; they plan to use a Smooth Jazz format.  He mentioned artists like Pat Metheny, Alan Holdsworth, Earl Klugh.

He's going to send me some clips of music in a particular direction, for me to work with in composing some experimental samples for them to consider.  They need a Music Coordinator/Sound Architect ~ and I'm campaigning hard that the musician for the job is me.

We'll see where this path leads.  Still need to get past the gatekeeper to the throne room ;o)

Thank you again guys.

You're right Metarvo there would be no royalty issues with music composed specifically for The Weather Channel and it would allow them to 'brand' their own sound.  People used to tell me that even though they had satellite radio, they'd leave their TV on the Weather Channel instead simply because they enjoyed the music.  But when they re-branded to playing pretty random selections - they lost that following too - there's nothing unique or special about their current music.  Now their production value is more like a very expensive power point presentation.

Hey, I haven't been able to find another person besides Randy Davies at the till awaited Network Weather Channel that everyone recommended that I approach - he doesn't respond to voice or email messages.  http://www.networkweathercompany.com/e-mail-us/

In the spirit of Christmas I've attached one of my favorite Holiday Weather Channel pieces,  inspired by an infamous Cee Lo Green song completely contradictory in nature.  Because of its length - they never used the ending which is my favorite part of the piece!

Happy Holidays!

Real Big Thank YOU for the thoughtful and encouraging responses.  I just emailed the only contact (Randy Davies) that I could determine from the Network Weather Company site.  Will post should I get a productive response.  Thank you also for any outreach attempts you make to Jeremy Jones at The Weather Channel.

Hey Guys,
You have probably noticed that the local is currently using only two pieces of canned, branded music from some catalog.  Not good.

There's a guy named Jeremy Jones at the Weather Channel in Atlanta who has been put in charge of content.  I sent him an email and left a VM regarding the music situation.

I'd welcome your support.  I'd like to be assigned as their in-house music coordinator (which includes music discovery, acquiring overall licensing deals for labels, artists, publishers and artist representation) or at the very least compose new music for them.   The goal is  to develop and curate their Weather Channel -sound and brand- for all productions (regular programming: pilots, series, specials and promotions, etc. , the whole enchilada).

My degree in Film Scoring from Berklee College of Music, the variety of music that I've scored for several films including 'Assassination Tango',  combined with all of the music that I've written for them in the past ~ should be enough of a background to easily qualify to write ANY style of music that they need, not just 'Smooth Jazz'!

I want to encourage them not to take the easy way out and just use a third party music service but, instead have a steady flow of original music written specifically for their audience.

     Anybody with me?

Hey Zach,
Thank you so much for taking the time out to do this.  You 've located some great images .  I'm wondering, if you can find alittle more time - if maybe some images that relate to the actual lyrics could be found - a man walking down a road, dove on the beach, missles, etc.

All the best and again thank you for taking the time.

TWC Artist Chat / Song Titles
« on: July 04, 2011, 01:14:23 PM »
Hey Guys,
I've begun three new compositions for the 8's but, have no really good song titles for them.  Do you guys have any great suggestions?!

And whatever happened to the 'Blowin' in the Wind' video a couple of you said you might create after I posted the song??? :dunno:

All the best,
-JR

P.S. - As I mentioned, I'm in the composition process - so no it is not possible to hear them now and it's really the other way around - I need to fit the title to the piece.  But that's ok - I just thought you guys might have some creative title ideas.  You're creative in so many other ways.  I'll plug along on my own and figure out what to name the pieces as they gel more.

Hi Guys!

The folks at The Weather Channel asked me for some new Holiday music.  We've hit some administrative issues with BMI clearance which I've been assured will be finalized today.  But in the meantime I wanted to share the  music with you.  You can download the music for free here!

Again, it should begin airing later this week.

Happy Holidays,

It's amazing how relevant this old Dylan tune is.  You know Guys, there is SOoooooo much going wrong in the world today - from the environment which is getting decimated to the continuing 'hotspot' wars and this awful, awful economy which has people with their heads down working so hard just to make ends meet that they can't even begin to think about enjoying themselves.  Maybe we can create a little moment which acknowledges that very real struggle but, also gives people some hope.  Then Spread it across the web.  See if we can get as many hits as Lindsay Lohan
