Programming and Graphics / Daytime/Weather Center Live Shakeup
« on: April 06, 2016, 11:29:28 AM »
Starting this week, several changes have been made that effects the TWC weekday schedule from 9am and onwards.  From what I've seen and noticed online, it appears the new schedule is (all times eastern):

9:00am-11:00am:  Weather Center Live, with Keith Carson
11:00am-1:00pm:  Weather Center Live, with Alex Wallace
1:00pm-3:00pm:  Weather Center Live, with Dave Schwartz
3:00pm-6:00pm:  Weather Center Live, with Chris Warren & Jennifer Delgado

The Warren/Delgado block still features interviews with Crystal Egger (although taped) and Dan Leonard at that place in Massachusetts.  And of course, the poor OCMs doing the smaller, solo blocks have so much taped crap to show us that even they are useless (even though Dave yesterday did a fine job, I thought.  He is a true, fun and lively guy.)

I just hate that they broke up Alex Wilson and Dave Schwartz.  They were by far the best pair and most interesting WCL show.  Alex Wilson is now at Weather Underground and will do severe weather coverage from 6-9pm-when warrented.

They broke up Jen Carfagno and Chris Warren?  And left poor Chris with Jen Delgado?  Damn...

As much as I want to be positive about this news...I am not getting too excited yet.  All we know is that they plan to reintroduce more live weather coverage over the next year.  If TWC just adds 2 hours of weekday coverage and three hours of weekend coverage...does it all really matter?  Part of this thinking does have me going back to Vivian.  These announced plans by TWC must have been floating around for at least the past month, yet they still choose to let Vivian Brown go?  Lets just say I am cautiously optimistic...but yes, I think this is the best news to hear in quite a while.

Huh...another round of "sweeping changes" how many rounds of these "sweeping changes" has TWC seen since 2009?  I feel like they are constantly changing stuff up every two years.  And supposedly the reality shows are where the few ratings are and now the channel is going to be scrubbing them?  Days at The Weather Channel...

I still consider Kelly Cass as a glorified fill in and instead of a "contributor".  But at least in her case she has still gotten on and off screen time lately.  Nick Walker got demoted when Kelly did but he's been seen much less often than Kelly.

I kinda wish TWC would axe Cantore, but I know that would only happen if TWC was on the verge of complete implosion.

General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch

I would try to stir something into this front porch, but I have no idea what to say. lol. First off, there are sooo many parts to this forum and I would hate to post something that could go anywhere else.  And secondly, my life isn't that amusing so its not like I have any fascinating stories.  But since I'm still relatively new here, I may just ask...has this forum been more busy in the past? Like when TWC wasn't almost a complete total letdown?

There used to be so much activity that it was difficult to keep up with. I really wish I was a bit older so I could have taken more advantage of this forum in its prime... I guess people as get older, and their interests change, this board just gets slower and slower.

Eh. This is what I kinda figured.  There is even a thread about Rich Johnson's lovely catchphrases and even how Sharon Resultan started using them.  *sigh.* I wish I was either a little older or simply found this forum years ago when TWC was on practically 24/7 and when Kristin Dodd and Cheryl Lemke and Rich Johnson and Sharon Resultan and Kristina Abernathy were all on.

By far my favorite part of Weather Underground is every night when Dave does his weather WOW (wonders of weather) if you have a few moments each weeknight free between 7:42pm (eastern) and like 7:47pm (eastern) catching Dave's segment (in my opinion) is really worth it.  Did anyone know that Dave Schwartz is left handed before he started on Weather Underground? LOL.  And his writing is sooo neat...kinda like a school teachers and even mine.

Well...I'm watching today's 1-3pm edition on Weather Center Live and I'm left wondering if 1 OCM is the "format change" Mark Elliott vaguely talked about on facebook last week...it is highly unusual these days for a regularly scheduled Weather Center Live to air with just one anchor.  Plus, don't TWC have like 8 other OCMs they could have plugged in today?

Really?  Wow...I would have never pictured WUWA getting axed, at least not unless Roker decided to quit.  I usually avoid TWC in the mornings so I do not know whether to cheer or shrug shoulders wondering what this means for the network down the road.  They would not possibly air long form programs at 6am...would they?

OCMs & Personalities / Vivian Brown DONE at TWC
« on: September 01, 2015, 03:10:35 PM »
Hi everyone...I just caught the last 5 minutes of today's (Tuesday, September 1st) Weather Center Live (1-3pm, eastern edition)  And in the last 3 minutes Vivian Brown gave a nice little speech and said that today was her last day at The Weather Channel ... she eventually started tearing up before finishing and Mark Elliott chimed in the last two seconds before the local on the 8s about how working with her has made him a better meteorologist.   :(  I feel so bad for Vivian and I just got done having a short cry.  I can't say I did not see this coming, I just thought there would be some advance notice.  I really hope Vivian will find some bigger and better things in the future and trust me, she will be missed.

Gah...The Weather Channel.  *sigh.*

I would say that I ended up watching about half of Weather Underground last night.  (I was switching back and forth between WU and the Little League World Series.)  For what I saw in the 1st hour, I was not that impressed.  I thought the show would be more emphatic (you know...nerds nerding out completely on weather.) But at the same time, I did think the 2nd hour came more alive and got into a better flow.  Dave's WOW (Wonder-Of-Weather) segment was truly educational and highly enjoyable!  I felt kinda bad for the Co-Founder of weather underground who was stuck there last night.  He gave some commentary but I got the feeling he was either bored there or just did not care to be there.  Overall, I do think Weather Underground is better than the lousy last hour/team of Weather Center Live.  You could always tell no one put any effort into the 7pm show because of the lack of tracking the radar, Keith Carson's endless attempts to be funny and lately there has been plenty of teleprompter stumbles.  I definitely know I will not watch every minute of WU every day, but I can see myself tuning in more often to seeing what they are up too.  Especially if Dave is going to do another Dave's WOW segment.

Oh yeah, and of course Mike Bettes is fine and all...he knows how to host a show and does a great job.  I personally though feel that WU is just another wonderful opportunity for Mike B to inflate his ego.  Sarah Dillingham was great.  Apparently she is the one who does most of the keeping track of current weather in progress.  And Brian and Greg are fine too.  I think WU has some potential but of course the ratings is what will drive their future.

P.S. - I'm thrilled that Dave and Alex's WCL is kept at three hours, I was worried their block would get cut but nope...they are simply now on from 3-6pm eastern.

Oh well...I was kinda hoping they decided to go back to the older one...I better enjoy this radar while I can...
