National Weather Service meteorologist Tom Niziol will be having his last day tomorrow, and will retire. Buuuut he will try a different part of meteorlogy by becoming a replacement to Paul Kocin a winter weather expert for the Weather Channel.
Article does not say *when* he will start at TWC, but I assume he'll start probably next month or so. idk.
Discuss, yo~

I guess they figured since they have the duo of Norcross and Knabb for Hurricane Season and Forbes for Severe Weather, why not finally get someone to be Kocin's replacement after I don't know what 8 years now? :dunno:

I could have sworn it would be more than that. :| Can't believe it's been that long. :(
In addition to what I wrote, I'm quite happy that there would be a winter weather expert on TWC. There was just a missing puzzle piece for them. The guy seems like he has a lot of experience with winter weather, in spite him living in Buffalo.

Hopefully he appears very soon, i will try to get a video up of his 1st appearance.

Maybe it has been, I was just guesstimating how long it's been. Give or take a year or two.

Kocin really is the king of winter weather. It's going to be really hard to find a replacement that comes close.
-
Tom Nizol is quite respected in the NWS from what I've heard. He was the meteorologist in charge at the Buffalo office, and he has done quite a few papers and posters on lake-effect snow. It's a tall order to be the next person to replace Paul Kocin though, so we'll see how it goes.

They eliminated the winter weather expert position in 2006, so they weren't looking for replacements until now.
Never heard of this person until I saw this thread, but based on what I see, I think he would be a great winter weather expert.

He would know about lake effect snow :)
Pretty cool.

He's on right now.
EDIT: He seems cool, calm, and casual. He may not be so bad after all. :itsok:

I saw him on this morning. Glad TWC has a winter weather expert again, their first since Paul Kocin. Welcome to the weather channel, Tom. :)
