I heard rumors that she left TWC due to "racist and discriminative" charges? Is this true can some1 confirm this? I like to see an article about this.
-
I don't think I can locate any articles about it, but yes, that's the theory. Its believed that Terry Connelly wanted her (and Rick Griffin) gone because they were too old and didn't fit his image of TWC.
-
How old was Marny when she left?
-
I don't know. I'd say somewhere in her mid to late 40's, but I could be wrong.

Apparently it was. BS indeed. <_<

Has Connelly fired any more OCMs?

I know he fired Rick Griffin.

I know he fired Rick Griffin.
OMG! No, he was a great OCM!
-
Didn't I mention Rick in my reply to your opening post? :whistling:
I beleive that Jeanetta Jones may also have suffered a similar fate.
-
Jeanetta's fate may be due to a different reason. Leading up to 2007, every OCM without the title "meteorologist" had been getting a degree or at least a certification to be considered a meteorologist. In fall 2006, Jeanetta and Kristin Dodd were the only two to not have the "meteorologist" title, but Kristin Dodd earned a certification by the end of the year, giving her the "meteorologist" title. I'm wondering if TWC forced all OCMs to earn a degree or certification by January 1, 2007 or lose their jobs.
-
I'd imagine that's a definite possibility. I know if I were running the show I'd want all my on air staff to be certified. That certainly doesn't seem to be outlandish. Although I don't know that I would've let her go. She's been there a long time. She might not have been certified, but from what you can tell as a viewer, she seemed to do the job just as well as anybody else.
-
Gary mentioned Terri Smith. She got knocked off TV, but IIRC, she does TWC Radio. If I were here, I would've been "BYE!"

When did she leave? Was it for the same reason?
-
I believe she left sometime in the early 00's. And yes, it was for basically the same reason.
-
I believe I read somewhere that Marny Stanier Midkiff is now a real estate agent in Atlanta.
Also, I think I read that Jeanetta Jones now has her own little jewelry store outside Atlanta in one of the suburbs.
HTH,

Here's the article I read about Jeanetta Jones. I can't remember who sent it to me, but I think it's accurate.
Maybe someone else knows differently.

I think its sad, because I really liked Jeanetta. She was always one of my favorites. Back around 1992, I wrote her a letter (as well as some other TWC OCM's) and she had the nicest reply with an autographed photo. I think Vivian Brown was another that replied to me as well as Janine D'Adamo (spelling?). Another one of my favorites now gone was Melissa Barrington.

Yes, Tennessestorm, I agree with you...Jeanetta was my all time favorite host, too. I really miss her.

I don't remember Marny Stanier, but Janine D'adamo works at my local CBS station as Janine Albert.
WINK TV is the station.

When did Marshall Seese earn his certification? I know he didn't always had a "meteorologist" title.

Sometime in mid-2006, slightly before Kristin. I remember seeing the old YWT lower thirds saying "Your Weather Today" underneath his name early in the package's usage.
