WOW! I'm shocked! So, where are they going put him On Air??? Or are we going to lose a few OCMs? If not, any more OCMs and They'll have to cut some longform! TWC has been on a roll during the week since DTV lost it. Of course longform was on at 7PM CDT last night. Wonder if DTV or their customers will blink any once news about Dave gets out. Or, is Dave back in order to get DTV back?
I guess Network Weather in dead. Wasn't Dave the founder? If not, I'm mistaken.

Interesting how he's back, is there a correlation with him being back and the talk of Network Weather "buying" TWC? I know he was a fan favorite, seems like a response to the DTV fiasco

Something tells me he'll probably only be a fill in though. I wouldn't get too excited. Where are they gonna put him? Nowadays (except WUWA and MR) the OCMs seemed to be randomly shuffled around.

I was definitely not expecting that at all. :o Shocked, but pleasantly shocked! :) I thought once these veteran ocms are gone, they're gone, never to return.

Yeah, but even that's not the best comparison. Jennifer left on her own free will, TWC let Dave go which I think many will agree was a stupid mistake on their part in the first place. I think with the whole Network Weather going belly up, DTV/TWC feud, and the threat of other networks competing against TWC fueled this. Why else would you suddenly invite who was a 20+ year OCM veteran of your network back to your network after kicking him to the curb nearly 6 years ago?
I know that makes me sound like some wild conspiracy theorist, but this announcement seems a little too convenient and of a coincidence especially considering Dave was largely apart of one of those companies that was expected to compete against TWC before those plans were scrapped. It feels like one of those "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer" situations to me. Hopefully that's not the case and they genuinely and sincerely wanted Dave to come back, but again the timing of this is just curious...

I am curious to see how TWC (and Dave) handles this. I am assuming Dave wants to come back, although I wonder if he has any hint of doubt based on the fact that TWC got rid of him? And how is TWC going to treat him? Are they going to pay him as much as he was making when they got rid of him, or are they going to start him with a lower salary? If they choose to do the latter, then Dave must really want to come back. Because, after all, money was the reason they laid him off in the first place.
No matter the reason, I am glad they're bringing him back, although I also agree that we probably shouldn't count on seeing him as more than a fill-in at the moment. Cutting other OCMs or removing long-form are way over the edge at this point.

Seems unlikely. If you were worried about competition, why would you hire someone from a station that no longer exists? And not just a station that failed, but one that never even got off the ground.

I'm sure it wouldn't have cost much to purchase Network Weather and shut it down; TWC might have made a move like that just as a precaution to silence the competition.
I'm not saying this is what actually happened, but it seems plausible.

That's another possibility. Though I'm not sure why you would purchased a competitor before you even know what you're competing against (if anything).

For an industry heavyweight whose dominance is currently being challenged in a very public way, I'd say it would make very good sense to buy out any competition, even on spec.

It's wonderful that Schwartz is back. :yes: However, they say history has a way of repeating itself. I hope his job will be safer than it was before.
I agree with those who believe TWC only took him back to end Network Weather. It sounds like the channel still wants a monopoly. Who can blame them?

I am honestly shocked that TWC allowed Dave to return after how things progressed just before they let him go. The whole situation seemed irrecoverable to me, but I guess something has drastically changed.

I'm honestly ecstatic to see him back at TWC as well, but I don't know for sure how he'd do with them under their current direction. In recent years, OCMs have had to eliminate their "personalities" while presenting, so I wonder now if he'll be saying his infamous "my friend" or not.

Nick Walker said Dave will be on Weekdays from 2pm-5pm ET. So he is not a Fill-in.

They're really hyping Dave a lot more than I expected. Hopefully they actually have enough weather segments to keep Dave useful.

not bad so far, seemed a little choppy but thats normal. his relaxed pace isnt fitting in to their scheme, hopefully they acclimate to him, instead of the other way around.

TWC once used the motto "We take weather seriously, but not ourselves." Dave epitomizes that... he's VERY serious about the weather, but he likes to have fun.

I haven't been able to watch him, but is this really true? Has he lost the "my friend" quirky personality? I was afraid this would happen. :( I don't know what it is, but I feel like most if not all TWC OCMs are just so serious now (excluding Abrams and Roker). Now I know this conversation has been tossed around several times and obviously professionalism is important, but I feel like the OCMs could have a little more fun at times. Even Jim seems so much more serious now.

Not really sure where you are getting that, unless something changed within the last few days. I was watching a few days ago and he was cracking off jokes left and right... :dunno:

He seems normal to me and still a breath of fresh air compared to some of the OCMS. He still refers to his audience as "my friends." He's also been more informative than other OCMS when explaining the science behind storms among other things. I'm not expecting "Robot Dave" to return, but he seems like the Dave I enjoy.

Him and Alex Wilson are actually a great pairing. I don't find him boring at all.

I don't really see a noticeable change in his personality either but the only time I get to watch TWC is on the weekends so I could be wrong.

Yeah, Dave has been extremely goofy and the pairing with Alex Wilson has turned out to be a winner. Definitely a great duo to watch these days.

I don't have TWC on FiOS so I was unaware if he had been off the air in recent weeks.
Dave said he's off tomorrow for treatment then back Thursday and Friday.

That was because he was being treated for cancer, but then he died.
