Title: TWCC Archives
Post by: twcclassics on December 06, 2011, 02:16:00 PM
After experiencing much frustration with constant changes to sites I frequent (YouTube, Google, and Facebook), I have decided to add an "archives" area to the site. This will contain a slightly modified version of the site from last year (see attached screen shot). This way, features that no longer exist on the current site will still be available to you, such as the Way Back Play Back. The only thing I'm not able to bring back is the forums. The database backup I saved was corrupt/incomplete, leaving hundreds of topics blank.

My only question is whether or not it would make sense to update the pages that still exist. For example, there have been numerous videos added to the "local forecast" area in the past year. Would it be helpful to have those updates reflected in the archived area? Or would you prefer to use it to only view content that no longer exists?

Personally I think it's ideal to just view it to look at content not seen in the current site, since I don't have any issue with the present layout.

I've added a poll (obviously), for those of you that have an opinion, but don't want to comment.

If the archives were to be updated, would the old content not seen on the current layout still be on the archive section?

Maybe. If it's from the other Mike, I can post it. If not, it's probably from a tape Tyler sent me years ago, which I can't transfer (in which case, I wonder how I was able to make a screenshot).

It has to be from Mike because it's from the Philadelphia area, it's very high quality like his other videos on the site, and because Tyler lives in Pittsburgh (:P)

I found a WeatherScan DVD last night, but the STAR was broken throughout the DVD. I'll look again tonight.

That reminds me of something I did back in the 1990s.  I had a videotape I wanted to "erase" while, for whatever reason, still having something on there, so I recorded The Weather Channel overnight.  The WeatherStar 4000 was in a state of "No current report" and "Temporarily unavailable" on everything for the whole 8 hours.

Do kids these days know what's meant by "SP," "LP," "SLP," and "EP"?  :dunno:  :bleh:

Probably not.

I love telling stories to children about televisions before remote controls, black-and-white televisions, typewriters (which I still have), vinyl records, dot-matrix printers...  I'm only 29 years old, but so much equipment that I've used in the past has become totally obsolete by now.

Do you have the September 1996 playlist? I believe you said it lasted till February of 1997. I remember Good Morning by Craig Peyton and Another Place by Torcuato Mariano along with songs by David Reinstein, Trammell Starks and Ficara.

Added! This is based off a list Nick sent me a few years ago. I'll add the Trammell tracks tomorrow (I have to convert the names).

Thanks!  I remember Blue Kiss, Good Morning and Another Place, Even When You're Gone, Wishbone and of course Trammell's songs. This is the time when I really started to get into TWC and smooth jazz in general.
