Comcast has provided the 4000, the XL (V1 and V2), and the IntelliSTAR. I've seen a V3 in action, as well.

Comcast never had a JR here. As far as stars I-III...I never paid attention to The Weather Channel that far back...thus, I have no precise recollection of any of the three.

For those interested...my username is derived from Tropical Storm Ernesto's Storm Alert fame. As most know, this was a ridiculous move by The Weather Channel, considering Ernesto was quite weak. The name is intended to be taken in a sarcastic tone.

Since that's the only other STAR I've seen live, I think it's awesome!!
The Satellite LF is not a STAR. ;)

No. Satellite LF is done at TWC. there is no STAR involved, its just a computer putting all the images together.

well how would you see the satellite forecast in a STAR outage? TWC has the satellite LF, and the STARs overlay it.

Basically, it's like a PowerPoint presentation, except (obviously) they don't use PowerPoint.

How is it those with satellite see a black bar with the current conditons, forecasts, and airport delays for major cities?

I belive that is done with a STAR. Though it may be done at TWC as well, seeing as only DirecTV and DISH use it.

It is not done at TWC, the satellite providers have their own star that puts the black bar on.  I lived where there was a 4000 2 months ago and there never was a black bar.  Also, there was a long period of time that DIRECTV used the black bar and Dish Network did not have it yet.

The actual satellite LF comes from Master, however the satellite LDL is added at the satellite headends (Dish HQ and DirecTV HQ) Both Dish and DirecTV obtained STAR systems at different times.

I see Additional forecasts at weather.com when i get the Satellite Forecast. I hate this version of the Satellite LF.
