Thought this might be an interesting topic. What STAR does your area have? What STAR's do other area's that you know of have? It'll be interesting to see how much info we can gather. I'll start.
Here in Baltimore we have the IS. In fact, every area in the state now has the IS. The DC area also has the IS.
-
This is a good idea, however, I think we should have a "National STAR Database" featuring STARs across the country
Being the 3rd largest city in the country (:D), the entire surrounding area has IntelliSTAR, 95% of which is Comcast.
I'm pretty sure there are some other STARs (non-IS) not far outside the metro area.
-
That's a good idea. I think this would be a good way to gather that information.
-
I have no idea about other places around here, but I'd guess most places around my area have IntelliStars. But, some nearby towns have/had Adelphia, so I suppose there could be some XLs, 4000s, or Juniors around here that I don't know about.
-
Oh, I hope people report more than just "Intellistar" all the time <_<
-
Well, you didn't report anything. :D
-
That's a good idea. I think this would be a good way to gather that information.
I have a pretty rough/long list, I would have to type it out.. but if you want it... I guess let me know..

YES!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Yeah, feel free to post it if you wish. 8)
-
Well, you didn't report anything. :D
I'm in a transitional state right now between providers, lol. When I get that all settled, I'll report :P
-
Sounds good! 8)

It has been a while since I posted...
My area and best friend's area:
Punxsutawney, PA - WeatherStar XL v3 (no narration) - Comcast Cable*
Indiana, PA - IntelliStar - Comcast Cable*
Blairsville, PA - IntelliStar - Comcast Cable*
Somerset, PA - IntelliStar - ?
Donegal, PA (including Acme) - IntelliStar - Armstrong Cable
Stahlstown, PA - WeatherStar XL v3 (with the limited narration) - Laurel Highlands Total Communications
Altoona, PA - IntelliStar - ?*
My vacation area:
Wildwood, NJ - IntelliStar** - Comcast Cable
I was in Harrisburg for business:
Harrisburg, PA - IntelliStar - Comcast Cable
Harrisburg, PA - WeatherScan IntelliStar - Comcast Cable
*All these were formerly Adelphia
**This IntelliStar might service the coastal towns of Southern NJ from Atlantic City south to Cape May, not sure
EDIT: Forgot I saw the IntelliStar at an Applebees in Altoona. Not sure of the cable company, it used to be Adelphia... but that leaves 2 guesses as to what the cable company is :)
-
Glad to hear from you again Tech_Guy! Thanks for all that info! 8)
-
I have the pleasure () of seeing an IntelliSTAR every 10 minutes.
I do know that Comcast in Sevierville, TN still uses the WeatherSTAR XL.
-
Well, I've been checking TWC in many areas around Philadelphia and they all have the IntelliStar through Comcast. I hope someday I'll visit some rural area (such as the pine barrens in east central New Jersey) so I'll have a better chance of seeing a different STAR. I'm desperate to especailly see the XL version 3 in person.
Tyler once hosted a STAR database a while back but he stopped it since trolls kept messing it up.
-
This would be a good way to find out what cities are non-IS! :) I do know that every place in NJ is serviced by an XL. The southern Jersey shore has the IS as well. DE has IS. Salisbury had a JR. I think they still might have one. Lee, MA might have an XL and i think Waterbury, VT has an Xl and Bennington , VT has a 4000. (Comcast!)
-

Actually, it was just for the IntelliStar.
-
Maybe i could do one!
-
I don't like the intellistar, but it would be interesting to find out what cities would have an intellistar that you normally wouldn't expect.
-
Oh, I don't like the intellistar. But for the hell with it.
Hmm, interesting choice of words..
And Gil, do what ever you want :) :P
-
And Gil, do what ever you want :) :P
Yeah it'd be fun. i will need some equipment though. I'm thinking about all STARs, not just IntelliSTAR.
-
Maybe i could do one!
That would be cool.
-
I'll definitely do it then :)
-
I'll definitely do it then :)
Why exactly would you need equipment for this?
-
Nevermind. I don't anymore. I thought for sure i'd need another monitor and network switch, but now i dont
-
Just to add some more info tho our "database", I was in Falling Waters, WV this weekend (a small town just outside of Charels Town), and they have the IS there (unbeliveably-its the most rural area you've ever seen!). I didn't even have to see the LF itself to determine that. As soon as I saw that dreaded black bar I knew. :D :rofl2:
-
The XL has the black bar too. But yeah, i've seen the IS in rural areas as well. If its Comcast or Time Warner, you're guarantee'd
to have an IS. :)
-

It's Comcast, so that explains it.
Trust me, this was the IS black bar. Its unmistakable. :D
-
lol i know what you mean. I wish they'd revert back to the transparent bar. Honestly, I saw nothing wrong with it.
-
If its Comcast or Time Warner, you're guarantee'd

There are a few places out there, though, with Comcast or TW with an XL or possibly a 4000. Weatherdaddy used to have a 4000 with Comcast back in 2005.
lol i know what you mean. I wish they'd revert back to the transparent bar. Honestly, I saw nothing wrong with it.
To be honest, I see nothing wrong with the IS black bar either. It very rarely blocks anything you need to see.
-
I just find it out-of-place, most of thw time. the transparent (or should i say, Black-to-Transparent Gradient) bar looked more natural in most situations.
-
I would DIE to see an XL in person! I have tried and tried, but no luck.
-
The last I saw the XL was back in July 2005, in Picayune, MS, where we evacuated to from Hurricane Dennis.
-
Wilmington, DE has an intelliSTAR.
-
Thanks for the info!
I f anyone else has anything they can add, please do! 8)
-
Atlantic City, Nj and ALL New Jersey towns have the IS. All DE locations have IS. Decatur,TX has an XL. Wautoma, Wi, Taos, NM, Fairfield Bay, AR, Okcracoke, NC and Mexico Beach, FL, Kirksville, MO amd Bennington, VT has the 4000. State College, PA and Syracuse, Ny have a JR.
-
Wow, great info! Thanks so much Thunder! 8)
-
When I was traveling through North Carolina, I saw an XL in a rest stop along I-95 South. It was in April 2006, so I don't know if it is still around.
-
Springfield, FL (near Mexico Beach), a Panama City suburb, has the STAR 4000 (Springfield Cablevision)
-

I saw a YouTube video of that.
Sevierville,TN, Fort Myers .FL, Waterbury, VT, Lee, MA, Princeton, WV, Georgetown, KY, Scottsbluff, NE, Hannibal, MO,DuBois, Pa and Punxsutawny Pa and Siloam Springs, AR , Warsaw, In and Decatur, TX all have the Xl as far as I know.
-
I was in Seiverville, TN in June 2002 and i was at some place (can't remember where) but they had TWC on, and it had the XL.
-

Since that was in June 2002, since then they've likely upgraded to the IntelliSTAR.
-
Yeah that's what I was thinking. 8)
-
Does anyone know of any places in the west with something other than the Intellistar?
-
I don't know any, but I'm sure there are plenty.
-
There has to. Zanesville and Piketon, OH both have an XL. There has to be an Xl or 4000 in the West. There's a 4000 in Taos, NM. Is there anyway to find out what cities have non-IS headends?
-
There isn't yet, but there will be very soon!
-
There isn't yet, but there will be very soon!
Can't wait! I hope its up by tomorrow afternoon!
-
I've been STAR hunting, and all I ever find is Intellistar or Satellite. I'd expect places like Montana, Idaho, and maybe even isolated places Nevada to have an XL, 4000, or Jr.
-

I think it will be, but don't hold me to it.
-
MAybe Yellowstone or deserted places in WY and MT have a non-IS. I was in Faribanks ,AK once but, there's an IS! This far north!!

I know for a fact there's some locations in Alaska that have 4000s.

I was so freakin' close to convincing my dad to taking me there! Both to see the STAR and to enjoy the sights.
-
I have just sent a PM to the TWC Star Team over at TWC Classics. Whenever they log in to TWCC, they should see my message and send an email to me. I sent them a message regarding what cities/cable headends still use the Jr/4000/XL. I don't know if they are the ones responsible for knowing what STAR where but since they work on the TWC STAR dept., I can trust them and seek accurate information.
EDIT: PM's are not allowed to be sent to them. I guess the database will be more harder to complete. Hmm, no wonder TWc is always very busy.

You're not allowed to send PMs to the STAR Team at TWC Classics.
-
Oh great. Now the STAR database will be a bit more challenging to complete.
-
We'll do the best we can. ;) 8)
-
I sent them a PM because I thought they would know what cities are still non-IS. I didn't knoe PM's were not allowed to be sent to them, When did that come into effect and why can't they receive PMs? Too many unnecessary messages? This one is deemed necessary!
-

That rule has been in effect since the day the STAR Team came to TWCC. As for why, because it is not necessary to PM them. Do you realize how many PM's they'd receive if people were allowed to PM them?
Again, its no big deal. We'll do the best we can.
-
The Lancaster, PA area has the IntelliStar.
-
Portland, ME once had the 4000 but it was upgraded to the intellistar in 2005. Same with Fredericksburg, VA. They had the 4000 but upgraded to the IS. Warsaw, IN might still have an XL as of 12/05.

That XL was upgraded to the IntelliStar in early 2006.

:censored: They better not upgrade Punxsutawney's Xl.

That is the most pointless thing to ask! If you were to know the numbers involved in the question you just asked! Its not as easy to say that 7 - 1 = 6 but rather pie in to the last decimal!
-
Well you know Kyle, some people didn't know since I registered on this site as well as TWCC back on July so I suggest you shut your mouth if you're going to say something like that. Now end of discussion.
-
Do I have to babysit? If so, you'll both be gone. Kyle, I expect better from you. Your an admin.
-

Then don't babysit! :D State College, PA still has a JR.

Well, it's either babysitter, or landlard with an eviction notice. Take your pic :P

Does anyone have a clip of the Satellite local forecast from '99-'01?
-
I think I do. I will post it if I can find it. 8)

That would be great! :)

Here is one that was taped in the summer of 1999. Features David Reinstein, though the title of the song escapes me.

That's it!! :D
-
do you have a satellite clip from 2001?
-
No, but the satellite lf was pretty much unchanged from 99-01.
-
I got lots of clips, as I had DirecTv at the time. I'll capture them eventually. Please allow 6-8 weeks. :P
-
No, that's not the one I was talking about. That was the satelitte forecast that was used for a short time during late spring/summer 1999. I'm talking about this satelitte forecast (shown in the beginning of the clip before the XL appearance):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJepvOThvxY
-
I really like that version of the satellite forecasts, and I'm glad I taped a bunch of them.

Well you said 99-01. Late 99 still counts as 99. ;)
-
Sorry, I should of been more specific.
Again, if anyone has any satelitte clips like the one I just posted please post them is possible. :)
-
You know, seeing this topic just reminded me: Gil, where in the world is the database? Isn't it ready to be unveiled by now? :o
-
LOL.
Sorry, I find that funny
-
Care to let me in on the humor?
Sometimes I wonder if your just here to be a pain in the butt. :D
-
I'm looking for the version that was used for a short time such as the breif appearence of the sat 4c in an XL vid on Ytube.
-
Sometimes I wonder if your just here to be a pain in the butt. :D
He certainly is. <_<
J/K :P
-
I would like to know what he found so funny about my question...<_<
-
Because, it's like the whole thread is about the database, but everyone's been talking about other things, and forgot what the original point of the topic is
-
I see. I though (and it truly sounded like) you were laughing at my statement. :D
-
I compared this thread to a snowball rolling down a hill, and getting bigger and bigger (aka getting more and more OT), and laughed at the part when someone says "Wait, wha?"
Although you are funny to laugh at :P Kidding

The discussion wasn't really all that OT. And I wasn't bringing the question up for that reason.
