Title: What exactly makes the Intellistar 2 Jr cheaper than the original Intellistar?
Post by: Danfun64 on June 03, 2014, 06:23:19 PM
From what we know, the Intellistar 2 Jr (called by some the Intellistar 2 SD) was made as a cheap alternative to the Intellistar in areas where the ladder couldn't be afforded, due to the shutdown of the analog feed. Now I have to ask, What exactly makes the Intellistar 2 Jr cheaper than the original Intellistar? Have certain features been removed? Is the hard drive smaller? Is there no ability to download new graphic or other things like that? (That would explain why it looked outdated from its launch)

The manual states that it has low power consumption and is more lightweight. Other than that, I don't know..  :dunno:

Well, I can say that IT DOES have the ability to download/receive new graphics/updated graphics. Because they changed last week.

I imagine because it's a newer product, it's cheaper than an original Intellistar.

I'd also guess that if your Intellistar crapped out for whatever reason and couldn't be fixed, an IS2 Jr. would be its replacement, not another Intellistar.

Cable systems that have the intellistar 2 HD have been cutting off the old intellistar and showing a letter boxed or cut down HD feed on the SD feed.

Still haven't seen that happen on my Xfinity headend yet.

My guess would be that the IS2 Jr is essentially the next generation of the Intellistar SD rather than an alternative cheaper unit like the original Jr. It looks to be built on the same software and hardware infrastructure as the IS2.

Here what intellistar 2 Jr look like
Very cool! Thanks for sharing! We really appreciate it.
