Title: Weather Channel CD
Post by: Localonthe8s on July 04, 2007, 12:02:41 PM
There have been a lot of rumors of this highly controversal topic but I found an article that says that TWC will have a music cd now that they are licensed.http://www.reuters.com/article/musicNews/idUSN2218266820070623 TWC also plays much of the music from music packages, something I hadn't known before.

Yeah I heard about this awhile ago. I won't be buying it though. In my opinion the selections they've decided to put on the cd absolutley suck.

The CD should feature unavailable artists, like Jeanne Ricks, Kim Hansen, Yvonne Ayers, Samuel Lincoln, etc.

But it won't. That's one reason I hate it. The other is that it features nothing but tunes from this decade. Where's all the 90's music?

Yeah I'm pretty sure someone posted one in the thread on TWCC about the cd.

I don't see anything about it in the thread (http://www.twcclassics.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7350) that Tyler started about the CD.

Maybe it was just someone speculating about what they thought was going to be on it then.
Title: Re: Weather Channel CD

When I emailed Jeanne Ricks regarding Simple Pleasure, she said the CD would feature music from "lesser known" artists.
Title: Re: Weather Channel CD
Post by: lfmusiclover on July 05, 2007, 12:02:16 AM
And if Jeanne Ricks knows what's going to be on the CD's, then that means that its probably going to be mostly recent music.  <_<

What I'd like to see is two separate CDs. One for newer, lesser-known musicians with more modern TWC music. Then another CD, kind of like a "best-of" type of deal with classic 80s and 90s music.

IMO, TWC needs to release 3 cd's-Best of The 80's, Best of The 90's, and best of the 2000's. This way, they satisfy everyone's preference.

That's a good idea. That way, people can get what they really want. If they prefer current music, they can get that CD. If they prefer classic music, they can get that CD. B)

How can you get any 'lesser-known' than what is playing now?????  Most of us have never heard of these 'artists'...
Title: Re: Weather Channel CD
Post by: lfmusiclover on July 05, 2007, 10:01:05 AM
Actually, TWC uses quite a few artists that are classified as mainstream, or artists whose music you can purchase by simply going to amazon.com or your local music retailer. On the other hand, the lesser known artists are usually much harder to find (if its possible, some can't be found), and are usually "indie" or independent artists as opposed to mainstream. These artists often operate through BMI, in which case its quite difficult to get their music.

Boy, a CD with the earlier and recent music would be great. I'll probably buy the CD if the tracks are good. If lesser known artists are to be featured, then maybe the two mystery jungle songs will be there from November. :), provided there are song samples. But I just have one question, are the songs going to be edited to 2 minutes or are they going be their full lengths?

I would imagine that they would HAVE to be full length, otherwise it really wouldn't make sense to release a cd of sample length songs.

Just a reminder for everyone: Kyle (wxmancanada), ot the best of my knowlege, is still doing the "unavailable music feed".

So you can still request those unavailable songs from BMI, and he'll get them and play them on his feed.

Here is a link to an article about the TWC cd's. Apparently one is going to have smooth jazz, the other what they call "instrumental classic rock". Yuck.

http://www.reuters.com/article/musicNews/idUSN2218266820070623 (http://www.reuters.com/article/musicNews/idUSN2218266820070623)

And here's another little piece I found about the cd. It also mentions that there's also apparently going to be some DVD's released as well.

It's not that I don't like instrumental classic rock. I don't like ANY type of classic rock ON TWC. I'm a big classic rock fan, but classic rock doesn't belong on TWC.

Instrumental rock has no place on a channel like TWC. TWC just isn't the right venue for that kind of music.

And the opinion of every other classic rock fan age 21 or older. Being played on TWC absolutley degrades the genre. Not that TWC is bad, its just not a classic rock venue.

You're right. But think about it. How often do they play classic rock? not very often. thereve only been a few incidents where this has happened.

Yah. but when it only happened less than 5 times, I wouldn't use that to call TWC a "Classic rock venue"

I'm not saying that TWC IS a classic rock venue. I'm saying it IS NOT, and that classic rock should not be played on that channel at all.

And I've looked through the playists and there are over 2 dozen playlists on which classic rock tunes were played. So don't try to tell me this 5 times bs.

Not really some people might be too lazy or may not feel like sharing it. You can't always read the mind of people. I'm seeing the CD being sold in Amazon, CD universe, Barnes and Noble but it has no track listing or CD music sample. What's the point of not having a track listing?

I would immediately email them and see if they'd do a follow-up interview with you, Gary, and inform them about TWCT and TWCC.
I doubt they would do that. Unless he lives in a small town where nothing happens. And IIRC, he lives in Baltimore, so...

Wow, are you in a bad mood today? Or just not crazy about something I've said or done? You've made two (so far-I haven't been through everything) posts that really fry me.  <_<

Anywho, I think they WOULD do it. I've been watching Fox45 for the last 15 years, so I think I'd have a better feeling than you for what they would do.

Just found an interesting article regarding TWC's CD. Here is the link: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hThwJkJ1kM2ydUDMdd0MzG2O10ewD8T3JU5G4 (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hThwJkJ1kM2ydUDMdd0MzG2O10ewD8T3JU5G4). The last few sentences in particular were interesting. Apparently there are more CD's in the works.  :thrilled:

I just said it doesn't sound like something a major TV station would do a news story on. I never said you shouldn't do it or that I knew your station better than you did. So I'm not sure why you equated me having an opinion with me having a problem with you.

You just seem to be trying your hardest to get under my skin today. As of the time of this post, there are about a half dozen posts so far today that I dislike. That number will keep rising, I'm sure.

Hey I was in Toronto last week, we had a somewhat busy news day and we aired a "follow up" story about a kid who had a dissability from last year and how he likes to be a dare devil with his chair. Gary, I'd contact em!  :sunglasses:

Not to worry. Despite the naysayers, the thought has never left my mind.  :sunglasses:

 Well, it is pretty easy. All I have to do is put the words "my site" in a post or disagree with something you say and you get all fired up.

Yup, when those words are followed or preceded by others like "Its already been discussed on", or "We've already talked about on". There's no quicker way to earn my disrespect than my belittling my site with your own. I wouldn't do that to you. I mean, stand on my side for a moment. What message would it send to you if someone continually put down your discussions by saying they've already discussed it on their site? Or continually put down your ideas. You might not realize it, but thats the way 75%+ of your posts are.

I wish whomever chooses the songs on the CDs would put the more harder-to-get songs, like Samuel Lincoln. :( I guess there's hope if another CD is coming out.
