Title: Rollout of HD-style maps on the satellite LF
Post by: Spring Rubber on May 21, 2008, 01:18:25 PM
Well folks, in a surprise move, TWC started rolling out the new HD-style maps for the SD satellite LF this morning during Day Planner. I must say, the new maps are a nice fresh change to the somewhat stale appearance of the satellite LF. The Intellistar could really use this package.

Videos to come later.

And the SD IS still looks like ****.

SD IS now definitely needs an update.

It's about time they changed the SD LF graphics. I believe the IS will receive another graphical update on the June 2nd relaunch. I saw it somewhere in the forums.

Oh, I like that new layout! B) The maps look the same to me, though.

I'm curious to see how the IS looks too. Does anyone like the new satellite graphics?

I was hoping the radar maps get updated too...

I like the new version of the satellite.

NOTE: The Severe/Thunderstorms Watches pages still has the old title bar. <_<

Wow, TWC didn't ruin my favorite part of their LF! Now Thunder can still produce quality videos with pride!

Only nitpick is that the yellow coloring in the satellite imagery is awkward.

And I'm trying to make it better with the WinTV tuner I got as well ;)

If the SD IS is getting a graphic update (thank god, now THAT's a system in need of updating), what was the point of giving it that graphics set last year?

Well, the SD satellite once went through 3 graphics sets in less than a year, so yeah....

I'd assume so.

I like it, but I don't like the idea of having the satellite with the cloud temperature color codes. Makes it confusion whether it's clouds or rain. 6/10.

Hmm, I see what you mean. It looks like an infrared radar with a winter precip radar overlayed over it. I could see confusion over the difference between clouds and snow, but the rain looks to be well-defined on the radar.

I'll have to see it on the TV for real before I can tell for sure, though.

You know, now that TWC is readily available in Hawaii, I'm surprised they haven't added a Hawaii forecast map to the satellite LF. If I were a TWC-viewing resident in HI, I'd feel kind of neglected.

I've noticed what appears to be some of the HD maps being used randomly during the SD live broadcasts.

Am I losing it?

Nothing really stands out.  Same basic color scheme, same basic "I want to fall asleep" look to it.  It's not like the HD national forecast, now THAT has a wow to it.

Well I don't think i'll be getting the HD channel until 2009 or something, considerign Comcast is lazy and Little Rock isn't a big market.

That's actually a bad thing when combined with radar like it is. Employing two different color schemes in one map is just stupid. Hopefully they'll realize this and change it back.

Anyone know what hides under the LDL of the new satellite LF?

I don't know; let's hope that the STARs fail to cue sometime soon or that they show the emergency feed.

My IS always lags behind a few seconds when it's cued to do something, whether it's to display the LF or the radio/newspaper affiliates.

As I expected with the HD launch, they're really starting to rid the Interstate font.

My thoughts too. I really like the Interstate font. Chances are they might have the same HD looking titlebars on the IS.

What fonts are used in the new package?

Hmm, I wonder what happens when that new irrigation system outside the HD studio calls in to get the weather forecast, and it gets no forecast? :P ... Seriously, haha.

Vic, it honestly looks like Arial Narrow.

It also looks like a combination of Arial Narrow, and Impact.

And it looks like it was the same font that was used on the WeatherStar XL 36-Hour Forecasts and the LDL scrolls.
