Not at all happy to see Breezin' back. That song played WAY too much back in October/November, and I see it played from 12:38 PM EST to 12:58 PM EST this afternoon

Just got a Facebook PM reply from Chris (not even 10 minutes after I sent the original message), and he told me the song in this clip:
Lansing Intellistar- 1/12/10 12:28 PM EST (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqU30nG_jPI#)
Is a new song of his, "After The Rain". Nice song, imo

Interesting how these playlists are getting successively worse with time... several recent repeats already. "Crimea II" by Bodhi at 6:28 PM EST... which is now becoming "Restless Heart", if you know what I mean.

Sorry about the repetitive posts here, but I seem to be the only one watching this playlist as it rolls out...

"Shack" by Isaac Hayes at 6:38 PM EST, which was last aired on WUWA back on Labor Day (I also caught a St Ignace clip of it)

I would not be surprised...

What I don't get is why they can't repeat older songs. Two Masters, One Muse? Come on, that played in June. If you're going to repeat their music, why not re-air "Freeze"? A song with the word "Sunshine" airing during the week ahead, and the time-in cutting off another vocal phrase is not a song that should air on the LF.

Absolutely horrible playlist, hands down. I do like to see Santana's version of Europa back... I was quite surprised when I first heard it this morning. Now if only TWC could repeat many more songs from the XL era and Intellistar's golden daze, I would be far more satisfied with the playlists. Also nice to hear Jung at Heart back... even though I was one of the few that caught clips of it.

Seriously, what is this... a tribute to June? Time is Tight; Two Masters, One Muse; Crimea II. Not crazy about Sam Spence back either  :footinmouth:

Ah well, enough of my ranting :bleh:

The daytime playlist is very good, as it has been since September. The primetime playlist is meh. :noexpression:

I wish would extend the playlist to 8pm again. That is the only playlist with consistent smooth jazz. The only song we could do without is Stone Groove. I like Boney James, but we have heard that song for like 3-4 months since last summer.

Post by: jaz824 on January 13, 2010, 10:58:08 PM
I think the problem with much of the music on TWC these days is the lack of melody and distinction in the songs.  Most people remember a tune by it's melody, and so many songs lately have been absent of this.  A few years ago when you turned TWC on, you would immediately recognize the tune playing because all the artists had a distinct sound and their songs had a melody that was memorable.  When I was watching TWC yesterday during the primetime list, I heard three or four electronic songs that all sounded incredibly similar due to their lack of melodies, and they all just seemed to blend together.  Ultimately, I think it would make more sense to have 20 meaningful songs on the playlist rather than 40 songs with no distinct qualities.

Also, another problem with the recent music on TWC is that with the "smooth jazz" that is still playing, only past radio hits are being used, such as Breezin' by George Benson.  These kinds of songs are what sometimes gives "smooth jazz" its bad reputation as "elevator" music.  I think it would make more sense for TWC to dig deeper into the smooth jazz world and focus on playing artists they have used in the past, such as Pat Metheny, Spyro Gyra, Rippingtons, etc.  With the boring and forgettable kind of smooth jazz TWC is currently playing, they will only continue to drive the genre deeper into the ground.  Unfortunately, most people do not realize that contemporary jazz can be a very exciting genre if the right songs are chosen.

Well my only exception in this Primetime list is Ryan Farish's "Storm Chaser" & Clouds of Heaven" and that Candy Dulfer song (I can't remember the song name off the top of my head). I also like "After the Rain" by Chris Geith and that Jeanne Ricks song (I don't remember that one off the top of my head either).

Interesting how these playlists are getting successively worse with time... several recent repeats already. "Crimea II" by Bodhi at 6:28 PM EST... which is now becoming "Restless Heart", if you know what I mean.

I started hating that song when it's was featured in the 3rd playlist (Dec 08).

Post by: TampaMillTWC88 on January 14, 2010, 06:21:02 PM
There are waaaaay too many repeats on this playlist.

:nono: I think Stone Groove is actually becoming the next Restless Heart, moreso than Bodhi. Over the last year, I am sure it has played on at least 3 playlists. It is not Boney James' best song. I like Nothin But Love, from back in the day, but I have not heard it on the Weather Channel yet!!!! :dunno: Maybe I have to tape it in the daytime, or something. I like Eminence Front by the Who. To be honest, I never recall listening to anything by the Who, but I downloaded, and it is really good. It is kind of funky too. But there has not been a consistently good playlist since April/May 2009.  A song I do wish they would bring back is King of the Burgs by Lettuce. That is a jam! If I were to rate this playlsit, I would give it 6 out of 10, and it got extra points for the Shaft theme.

They surely are playing songs repeatedly on this playlist. And, some of the songs really do need to go imo.

If you can make a video, can you please post it here? I'd like to see what the other Tampa IntelliSTAR is like. I'm from Tampa myself.

To avoid copyright infringment on some songs

It shouldn't matter. Youtube should still be able to tag the songs  :dunno:

Sorry, I don't think I have the equipment on me now to record the Local on the 8's.

These are the songs I like:

What If…  - Anthony James Baker
This is the best song on the playlist
Rain Daze  - Jim Weider
Europa    -   Santana    Classic
Nothin' But Love    -    Boney James
Theme From "Shaft"  - Isaac Hayes
Magnificent Eleven  remix -  Sam Spence
I was definitely bobbin' my head to this one. It really isn't a typical TWC song, but it is better than a lot of the other songs on the playlist.
Eminence Front -  The Who

Btw, there is a song with a saxophone playing, along with a trumpet. I have been looking for the song, but I'm guessing it is Spirit by Ron Fattorouso.

This isn't too bad of a playlist, but a lot of the songs are playing at the wrong times. For example, Rain Daze and Jung at Heart should be playing on overnight, Shaft should be on morning, and Europa should be on primetime.

looks like an OK list...I still have no cable or satellite service and my interest in TWC has been lost in the past few weeks but thanks all for posting these clips..

Perhaps in the end of the month I'll be able to record  clips again as now it's planned ill have a basic directv package at around the 23rd. I will be able to hear the list myself then..

Stone Groove is awful. Crimea II is not n/a. Too many songs from the past year in this list...not good. Gary Farr hasn't been used on TWC since Jan 2003. I enjoyed his song All for the Love from his Lost album.

They're playing the theme to..... Jurrasic Park. I am dead serious, 7:59, 8:09 and 8:19 PM CST.

They need to break out some of the music from the Star Trek movies if they're going to go this route.

Edit: Odd, the other stuff I added to this post didn't post.
This is a vid of that song :P
Edit again: Will change link later since I uploaded the vid to the incorrect youtube account.

Ok, you know they've played the John Williams song already for the past 2 playlist (November/Dec 2009 and Holiday 2009) playlist. Hence the fact his music sounds like Holiday music and not regular music, I have a hunch they'll keep putting John Williams music for the next couple of playlist.

This playlist is ok, IMO, Breezin is a good song, and some songs that have originated from the overnight playlist are in Morning from the past playlists in 2009. And there's orchestra music playing on TWC?!?!?!?!?!? WTF!!!!!! Is TWC out of their mind for doing this? Man, another reason to hate the fact NBC owns TWC.

I dunno, I don't mind the John Williams stuff in there. THey just need to add more soundtrack music from composers like Horner, Goldsmith and Zimmer. You know, for balance. I mean, I liked Jurrasic Park, and the Winter olympics are just around the corner, but I would really like to hear stuff from, Oh I dunno, Planet Of The Apes? Star Trek movies? There's a lot of movies with suitable music for TWC

If the songs are not affiliated with BMI, then TWC can't license and air them.

THANK YOU very much Sean! This is exactly what I was thinking this past week. It's great to see them bringing back smooth jazz on the list even though it's only for daytime but the songs they play all sound the same and are indeed not interesting. I missed nearly 2 weeks of hearing this list, and after hearing the list for a week, I quickly grew tired of it. Stone Groove and Breezin need to go. Lily Was Here by Candy Dulfer is a great song but they should stick to more indie and unavailable jazz not mainstream radio jazz songs. Also it seems that they have a shortage of smooth jazz CD's coming in. I recently complained about this to TWC and offered to send in CDs (with BMI artists) that I have on my own but much to my knowledge only the artists can send it due to licensing/acquisition issues. Also TWC is playing less rock. And to think TWC is leaning towards more rock now.  :whistling: But yeah...it would've been at least nice if they can bring back jazz on the daytime and overnight portions ( I mean seriously, who wants to listen to rock/pop in the overnight hours when you have many good "overnight-sounding" smooth jazz songs available). That way there would be an even mix. I really miss the old artists TWC used like Patrick Yandall, Doug Markley, Chris Ball, Miles Stiebel, Kyle Wolverton, etc..but they're not probably playing their music because as I said earlier, TWC will only stick to indie jazz on the daytime list and use previously used/mainstream jazz songs on the other dayparts. Those artists I mentioned above have great music that would've made it to other dayparts.

Judging how long the November list lasted, I for sure expect this playlist to go through at least the end of February... and I would not one bit be surprised if this list goes a week or two into March. I miss the old daze when we actually had monthly playlists  :cry3:

Judging how long the November list lasted, I for sure expect this playlist to go through at least the end of February... and I would not one bit be surprised if this list goes a week or two into March. I miss the old daze when we actually had monthly playlists  :cry3:

I hope the new playlist will start before February ends at least. There is no way we can go an entire year with playlists lasting 2 to 3 months.   There have to be some monthly playlists.
